Tamron 28-75mm and over exposure?

Thanks for the tips!

Just out of curiosity, could this even be a problem with the lens? Or is metering problem always something that's camera body related? I'm not sure how the TTL-metering actually works in these modern DSLRs.

I can't check the contacts right now (not at home and don't have the camera with me). Have to check that when I get home.

Lighting was generally poor (had to bump up the ISO) but quite even. This happened even when taking two consecutive pics of the same subject. I used the default metering mode (multi metering, meaning the average of the whole pic area I guess).

Tamron 28-75mm and over exposure?

I just got my early "christmas present", the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 lens. I have only taken under 100 photos with it but I already noticed some strange behaviour. I took some indoors pics and I got several that were significantly over exposed. For example, two shots taken only seconds apart in the same room (same lighting that is) using aperture priority had shutter speeds of 1/30 (correct exposure) and 1/13 (over exposed). My camera body is a K-x and I have not seen this happen with my other lenses (DA35, kit lens and tamron 70-300mm). Could this be a problem with the lens? With my camera body? With both, meaning this particular combination of lens and body?

Cheap manual 50 seems like a good purchase. I may not use it that much (so cheap is good) but I might need one really fast lens (because of DOF etc).
I'm still in between the DA70mm and Tamron. You who own this Tamron, how sharp is it wide open? Is it useful enough or is it a case of always stopping it down to 4 which seems bit too slow for me?

If your budget is that $800 I have a suggestion. Get the Tamron 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 AND pentax DA35mm f2.4. You can get both for $800 (they cost 580 euros or something combined in Europe). I don't own the Tamron but I have heard it's a good wide angle zoom for the price (I'm planning on getting it maybe next year). The DA35mm I do have and it's just amazing for the price. I have used it a LOT during the last year or so that I have had it. Pretty fast too.

Heh... thanks for your help ;)

I'd love to own the 50-135 but it's just too expensive, as is K-5.
Weather can be quite harsh here in Finland though, agree on that. :)

I shoot my two daughters (3yrs and 1yr) a lot so portraits is one of the main things for me. I have my cousin's wedding coming up soon too and I'm starting to lean towards the 70 limited. Is it fast enough for shooting inside church? I hope so.

Wide angle is next on the list (been using my kit lens for that). But I probably wait another year until I can get that.

It's been almost a year since I got my last lens the DA35mm f2.4 and now it's time to get a new one. I have been looking at three different lenses based on the fact that I usually shoot in the 24mm - 100mm range. I have a budget so I can't purchase anything super expensive. The three options are: FA50mm f1.4, DA70mm f2.4 limited and then a zoom, Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 which is a full format lens.
The FA50 would be nice because of the speed and DOF but I tend to shoot more in the 70s range than 50s. On the other hand if I'd own the 50mm maybe I would learn to shoot more in that range?
The DA70mm is a limited lens and I don't own one yet. I also like the focal length and tend to shoot a lot in the 70-100mm range with my Tamron 70-300mm lens when I'm outside.
The zoom lens would give me versatility however and it's useful inside too being quite fast and having it's focal length starting at 28mm. I have been told it's pretty sharp lens as well?

These three cost about the same, the limited lens being a bit more expensive however.

So what should I get? Is there another lens that could suit me that I haven't mentioned?

35mm limited vs 35mm AL

The limited lense has better build quality and can do macro shots. Otherwise the 35mm AL is as good, it's almost as sharp (in normal situations you won't notice the difference IMO) and it has nicer bokeh (again, IMO). The AL is also a little faster, it's perfectly usable wide open at 2.4. What I have read is that the 35mm AL is based on the FA 35mm F2 optically.

From our summer cottage. Tired old bike wheel. Shutter speed was actually 1/50s but no such option to choose. My first Pentax forums contest photo :)

Battery life for K-x

I shot about 1600 shots with the lithiums that came with my k-x. As this is my first DSLR I played with it alot, tried live view and shot with and without flash. The second set of lithiums lasted for about 1300 shots (I shot also outside and it's pretty cold here in Finland, lithiums handle the freezing temperatures pretty well but it affects battery life). I have found energizer lithiums for as low as 7 euros per set of four. I think they are superior to any rechargable battery, especially their freezing "resistance".

Yeah, I should've told what I shoot mostly. There's two things really: I have two young daughters, 2 years and 4 months old. The younger is quite static subject to shoot but the older is going all over the place all the time. :)
Then I love to shoot old buildings and some nature too.
Fast normal zoom would be ideal for the children, I guess? Or maybe a fast prime?
Then a good wide angle prime for the buldings?

The fast tele-zoom is probably not a priority right now.

And it was the metz 50 that my friend suggested (it's a new version of the metz 48, I just checked their web site). But I guess any decent flash would be good enough to get better indoors photos of my children?

BTW, I love the low light capabilities of my K-x. It really helps when taking photos indoors with the kit lens.

Thanks for the tip on FA35. I hadn't really considered it. The 50-135 is the classic zoom range of 70-200 just made for the aps-c sensor. Tamron 70-200 would actually be roughly 100-300 on full frame when mounted on K-x.

Hi everyone. My first posting here.

I got my first DSLR last august, the K-x. I'm not entirely new to photographing however. My previous camera was Panasonic DMC FZ7 and you could shoot in full manual mode with it (even manual focus). It took pretty good photos thanks to Leica optics (f2.8 at wide end of the zoom) but with smaller sensor and only 6mpix was getting a bit old.

I'm quite pleased with my K-x but I soon realised that getting a new camera doesn't make you any better at photographing :) So I'm still learning.

Initially I bought Tamron 70-300mm with the K-x kit. I really like it actually. F5.6 is not that bad in the 200-300 range.
Recently I spent a week in Prague and bought two old russian made m42 lenses from a local camera shop. Helios 58mm f2 and Industar 50mm f3.5 (funny looking little lens). Haven't tried them that much yet.

Now I'm wondering what to get next. Friend of mine is a semi-professional photographer (canon enthusiast) and he suggested to me a basic list: decent flash (metz 50 or something), fast normal zoom, fast tele-zoom and fast prime. He is probably right but what to get first?

I have a budget of course. I just can't afford pentax 50-135mm f2.8 even if that would be an excellent addition. The same goes for pentax 60-250 f4. That's why I have been eyeing tamron 17-50 f2.8 and maybe 70-200mm f2.8 too. For the prime I can go pentax. But what to get? FA50? DA35? DA40? DA55 is again too expensive for me.

Flashes I haven't looked into yet. I have to admit that I'm quite a noob when it comes to flashes so I don't have a clue.

Any help is appreciated. As I said, I'm a DSLR newbie.
