I have changed my mind!

WOW this sound familar to the conundrum I find myself in. I almost bought the K-r but I am looking for the next step up in build quality and options so I looked at the K7 but this is older technology, but I love the feel and build and options, but I hear alot of negatives on this forum about the K7. So the next step up would be the K5 and i really dont want to spend that kind of money. There is a huge jump in price between the 2 new cameras (k-r & k5) where other manufacturers are offering the newly released 'prosumer'models in the price point i am looking for.
Do i wait on the k5 to go down in price? Do I buy the K-r even though I think I want more of a camera? So many questions! Are folks on the forum being too critical of of K7? Will there also eventually be 'issues' appearing about the K5? When the K7 was released how was it received? Was it going to be "the DSLR"?

Rambling again.

Extra Wheel on the K7

So with the K-r I can make adjustments TTL, I just have to "toggle" between shutter and aperture by pressing a button?

So on the K-r the ISO is set and does not give a floating ISO mode option?

I borrowed someones Canon yesterday and liked the ability to do this.

As I contonue to flip-flop on my decision to buy either a K7 or a K-r, can someone tell me the distinct advantages to the extra wheel on the K7 that is not on the K-r?

Thanks for all the input i have received so far.

Which Lens to Purchase With K-r Kit

OK, so i think i decided to buy the K7 instead. A few reasons being the feel of the camera in my the additional wheel control and I think the ISO will be fine with what my low-light conditions I will be working with. My daughter has a hockey game this afternoon and I am going to borrow someones Canon at the rink to see what ISO she is shooting at then I will know better.
But with that being said, if I am loking for a WR camera should I be looking at only WR lenses? Tomorrow Pentax has a rebate program starting in conjunction with K7 purchase so if I now have a 100-300 lens (not WR) and the lens that comes with it(18-55) what lens is a good one to buy? There is a $100 rebate with purchase of lens with any K7? (I like the idea of a WR prime lens for experimenting and I like the macro world). I am rambling but, well thats what I do sometimes. Lots of questions and all the input so far has helped a bunch and has made me think...hmmm...? So keep the advice and experiences coming.

Thanks,
Mark

I just came across a Pentax Rebate that starts on the 15th of this month for $100 Visa card with purchase of a lens with a K7, on Abe's of Maine website.. Not sure if anyone is aware of this.

I also called Hunts Photo in Massachusetts and they said that the K7 was being discontinued in their store.:hmm: Hmmm...

Which Lens to Purchase With K-r Kit

The 100-300 that i currently have is an auto focus. I seem to remember from back in the SLR days that the greater the tele lens focal length span, the slower the lens and it would be better to have more incremental lenses than just one tele that covers a broad range? (Going from memory here. and mine is like a bear trap, rusty and illegal in 48 states:D).
I seems that with the DSLR's, more compensation is available with the broad ISO ranges available now.

Yes , I am getting the 18-55 lens kit too.

Thanks for all the advice.

Which Lens to Purchase With K-r Kit

I am just about ready to purchase the K-r at b&h and I am looking for advice on which tele-lens to get with it. Either the 55-300 or the 50-200. I will be shooting alot of kids hockey and soccer events along with landscapes and family photos.
I currently have the Pentax-F 100-300 4.5-5.6 lens from my old film camera.
When the saletech put this lens on the k-x (they didnt have the K-r in stock), he showed me that this lens will actually be longer than 300 on the dslr's than on the slr's. Does this sound accurate?

Can I rely on this older lens and pick up the new 200 tele for size and speed or should i update to the new 300? If so, will i be sacrificing anything?

Any advice would be very-much appreciated.

Buying DSLR on "Black Friday"?

I am not sure if this is the correct place to put this but:

Historically, has there been sales on DSLR's at one or any of the top-rated online photography sites on "Black Friday"? I am looking at the k-r's and k7's of the world, not the pro gear.

Choosing the K-r or K7

Thanks for your advice.
Can you define low light conditions?
I have the old FTZ500 flash and when I brought to the local camera shop and the saleman attached it to both the k-rand k7. It appeared to work and sync with the camera fine. Although he did not run through an exhaustive verification. I have read on this forum that there are definite issues.
I would like to think i would be using this camera on a regular basis taking it with me wherever i go.
As far as lenses, I have a SMC FA 100-300 lens. (along with a few manual lenses) When the salesman attached the 100-300 to the k7 body, it worked fine. He said that it will acually shoot as a longer lens on the DSLR's than on my ZX-10? Does this sound accurate?

The saleman originally showed me the k-x and I was very impressed with the functions and the feel in my hands. But then he broke out the k7 and -WOW- what a difference. A little bigger grip and a 'solid' feel to it. I told him he shouldnt have showed that to me cause thats the one I want now. He did not tell me that the k-r or the k5 that was being released.
Now i am doing more research and it seems that the k-r has things that are improved over the k7 but i love the feel of the k7 body.

Is the K7 old technology now? I have read some threads here that do not paint the k7 in the best light. Is it 'the grass is always greener..' or 'things can always be improved..' mindset?

Thanks for any additional feedback.

Choosing the K-r or K7

So after looking at the comparisons between the k-x, k5 and k-r and looking at the price points it appears as though the k-x could be replaced with the k-r? It also seems as though the k-r is more like the k-x than the k7? (I read somewhere that the k-r is the k-x on steroids) But yet there are also improvements to the k-r over the k7? When making a purchase like this I usually look at what suits my needs now then purchase the next model up allowing room for growth but would I be taking a step back or forward with purchasing the k7 instead of the k-r?

(Shooting my childrens sporting events like hockey (indoors) and Soccer and
landscapes)

I am looking at making the jump into the DSLR world from the SLR world. I just pulled out my ZX-10 after being in mothballs for a few years now and i am interested in getting back to photography.
Besides liking Pentax as a brand, I also have a few lenses and flash from my old 35mm that will transfer directly to the new camera. I have performed the side-by-side comparisons online at the usual sites but I have not seen any discussion comparing the k7 and new k-r. Is it worth it to spend the extra $ for an older camera? I understand the sensor is now improved and the k-r has a broader iso range and more fps. What will I be getting besides a nicer body with the k7? Is the k7 going the way of the dodo b/c of the k5?
Any input would be very-much appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark
