This picture has been cropped, but I think it demonstrates the combination of thin depth of field with pin sharpness you can get from this lens. Unfortunately I'm not 100% sure what aperture this was, I think it may have been wide open, but certainly not above f2.8. kickbottle by Jez Aitkens, on Flickr

An old fat guy with a FF Canon was shooting this really young model on the pier... It was quite disturbing...

A very detailed and helpful reply from Ilford:
I probably did not give it enough time to defrost. Almost certainly in fact.

Interesting.... One day when I have realised my ambition to own all the good A lenses I'll have to try this.
For some reason I feel the need to add an evil laugh...

Quizzical Christmas Reindeer by Jeztastic, on Flickr
Hi, I enjoyed taking this pic - thought I would share my technique. I just received my Cactus v5 flash triggers in the post, so wanted to take some pics for Xmas cards. I had the idea for an ornament in the foreground, and bokeh candles in the background. I like the reindeer's expression, so I wanted to find something for him to look at. After a lot of experimenting, I got the setup I wanted.
The strobist part was actually trickier than I thought. I wanted a constant exposure between the candles and the reindeer, however I also wanted a blacked out background, and a wide open aperture to get bokeh balls. To stop the flash overpowering the candle light I had to go down to 1/128 power on my Yongnuo YN560II, and used more candles as fill. The umbrella was camera right, and candles left. I only have one flash that will go down this low, so it took a lot of experimenting to get the light soft enough and not too dispersed so as to light the background. Not easy, especially as in the end I went down to 1/30 second. Although this allowed the candle light and flash to mix magically, it did mean I had to brush out some background areas in lightroom and rig up a black blanket in the background. Focusing was tricky, so I used live view and zoomed in, although this in turn made holding the camera steady at 1/30th tricky. Pentax SR really saved the day.
The final problem was white balance - the candle light was much warmer than the flash, even with a full CTO gel. In the end I put a second 1/2 CTO gell on top which made everything match nicely.
Lots of fun had though, happy Christmas all, hope you get lots of camera gear in your stockings!

On a side note, it pains me that this thread is becoming popular, and yet is horrendously misspelled. Can we do anything about this?

Feel a bit better now! Was telling my other half about it, I realised it's just like telling stories about the fish that got away - it's always bigger than the others...

The K-01 is very well built, I tried one. The rubber grip feels grippy, not rubbery, all the painted parts are metal, and the engineering of the pop-up flash is delicious. It looks and feels like a brick.
Going on this, and the style nods towards the WG-02, I suspect the K30 will be very well built and robust. Although I think it looks ugly, if I hadn't bought my K5 a couple of months ago I would probably think very hard about getting this instead. Seems Pentax meant it about competing with Canikon but not replicating them - building niche products. I think they are doing this exceedingly well. I predict we will be seeing K-01s and K30s in places other cameras don't reach - ski-slopes, skate parks, trails, beaches... There's that hipster/action/surfer crossover thing and it's a BIG market. I have a friend runs a bike and snowboard shop, and the amounts people are willing to spend are astronomical. Biketart And these kind of shoppers can be very style conscious.

Rick drummer by Jeztastic, on Flickr
This is best looked at on black background with flickr.
Taken with one gridded speedlight camera left. I was shooting in a dark room, so the shot is slightly OOF. :-( Some tips on getting the camera to focus whilst maintaining a low key look would be appreciated.

Clever. Simple clever!
I came up with a really convoluted way of doing this which involved... Well, scratching the negatives basically... I'll try this when I have the time.

Unfortunately, the distance between the lens and film/sensor is shorter on FD mount than K mount. This means you need an adapter with glass in it to correct the difference - most people think it's not worth the image quality loss. You could mount them on something with an even shorter focal distance, for example, micro four thirds or Leica M mount.

Cropped and de-saturated. 15 secs at f8, 400 ISO. I was actually metering for a film camera, hence the high ISO, but liked the shot anyway.

I hope that they have discontinued it. They have admitted that there is a problem with the Kr they can't fix (tungsten front focus). Discontinuing the camera would display a bit more integrity and respect for customers then perhaps Pentax has in the recent past.
