Not very good with words, but here's what i think of the K-r and Pentax.
I was a noob when i bought my very first DSLR (K-r) on Feb 2011.
I have a used K1000 tho, thus my username. Haha :p
Was actually very indecisive between a D3100 and K-r. Checked with a few shops regarding the prices of both cameras and boy i was shocked.
The D3100 was actually cheaper than the K-r. I almost "jump-ship" to Nikon. :o
But thinking about the old lenses that i had with my K1000, it would be such a waste to "restart" buying new expensive N lenses.
I was a student then. So i decided to go along with Pentax!
After i bought the K-r, friends/colleagues saw the camera and goes "Wow, why did you not buy C/N brands? Pentax? What is that?" you know, that kinda thing.
Luckily it didn't bring me down as i saw on this very forum, the amount of lenses available for my K-r and the cheap lenses that i could afford (compared to some brands)
So i started lending my K-r to friends/colleagues for them to try. Some were, i would say, not very friendly. Nit picking on pentax.
(This K-r had the e-dial issue, but was resolved within a few weeks)
There were of course some who were amazed by how the K-r works under natural sunlight.
As for artificial lightings, i think K-r handled rather well.
I myself was amazed. Not sure if anyone has encountered this, but some of my photos that were taken after the sun has set. The image that i got on my K-r was like the surrounding is still very bright. (Will post pictures later on)
Many a times there would be compliments about what a great little camera it has been.
After slighty more than 7 months of usage, I am still using it and my friends are still borrowing from me. Has never regretted getting a K-r. I am proud of my K-r, and most importantly proud to be part of the Pentax family! :D |

I'm alright with zoom creep. To me, buying a lens with good optics is the main criteria i look at, the rest of "bad points" are just minor stuff.
At the end of the day, you'll be delighted to you see what beautiful pictures you've taken and you won't even remember how badly you've cursed the lens.:p
Other bases covered? O_O
True true. I won't be needing WR. Will be travelling in city areas. :)

I don't have any lenses that goes beyong the 18mm range, so its safe to say many or almost all of my photos are about the 35mm range. (the DA 35 f2.4 is always on my K-R) But sometimes when i want to zoom into a certain area, the kit lens reach isn't enough. sigh :ugh:
I know the FA limiteds are great lenses to bring for travel. But they are too expensive :( and buying one isnt enough because of the deadly LBA. haha

Size and weight are close to each other, so it doesn't matter to me. Same filter ring size. But ultimately, the price of the 18-135WR is a bit steep for me sigh :ugh:

Hi, to whoever who is reading this. I'm in a dilemma right now. I will be travelling and i would like to get a all round zoom (mostly taking architecture/landscape, streetshots or portrait i guess) I have the kit lens (18-55mm) with K-R and my options are below: 1) DA 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 ED AL [IF] 2) DA 50-200mm F4-5.6 ED WR Am hoping you guys who have used both/either to give some kind comments on which zoom is the better one to get. THANK YOU VERY MUCH~ PS: I do not mind the hassle of changing lens to get a shot i want. :p |

True true, I will be there as a guest, so getting a DA* lens is a bit hard on my pocket. But i would like to use this opportunity to try out on wedding photography, and i'm "appointed" as the photographer for our company gathering so can the DA* 50-135 serve as an all round lens?
I prefer to take portraits and sceneries.

Hi all, I'm using a K-R with the kit lens. (18-55mm)
I have a DA35 f2.4 and M50 f1.7.
And i'm thinking of getting a zoom lens that covers more than 55mm for my cousin's wedding at the end of the year.
Can anyone suggests some of the good zooms for such usage?
Also, i'm thinking of getting a FA77mm for portraits :p not sure if its usable for the wedding.
Thanks!!! :D

wondering if there is another cheaper alternative to keep my lenses free from fungus or haze, other than buying a dry cabinet.
living in Singapore and the weather here is kinda hot and sometimes humid...
really appreciate all ideas :)

hcc and Steinback: thanks for your kind help and suggestions.
hcc: what is the difference between a 28mm and 35mm wide angle lens?
does it mean that the smaller the number (mm), the wider it would be?
steinback: i sometimes do both (walking forward and backwards) it depends on how big the subject is. i wanted to get a zoom lens more for portrait purposes. heh cos with my 50mm i have to move so close to my friends. lol
