I've never been that impressed with my DA* 16-50 at f2.8, but it shines when stopped down a bit.
It's ok at f2.8, but nothing amazing, it's good to have that speed when you need it though.

No, guns are legal, but buying electronics and software at reasonable prices, that is outlawed

Considering Apple are busy suing everyone that goes near OSX on non-Apple branded hardware, both right this minute and at any time in the past, that's never going to happen. Google "Psystar" for a current example.
Anyhow, they already have control over the hardware, which is bog standard "PC" hardware, so what's the difference?
As for Windows 7, its rock solid and runs fast on old and new stuff, with some nice enhancements. I've been running the RC on various machines for a long time, and bought an OEM version for my main computer when it released.
It's safer and more stable than XP, but I wouldn't rush to upgrade from XP or Vista unless you really need to.

The argument that started in this thread is the perfect example of why people only post positive comments.

I'm wondering how it would go connecting it to other gear, say a backpack or similar, so you could grab it and unsnap it easily if required, but it's not impeding your legs.
Interesting idea though.

Taking a second look at the article, I think it annoyed me a little just simply because you could grab pretty much ANY camera, from entry level to semi pro, from any company, and come away with that weak conclusion if you didn't look into it properly. There simply aren't any bad DSLRs anymore.
So why bother accepting a camera for a review if you aren't going to do it right?
(And the fact that MR absolutely gushes over specific brand gear like Leica, and completely bends over backwards to downplay major issues. At least that backfired on him badly with the Leica M8)

I'm not sure what you are trying to say, but I think you misread me, although on reflection I could have been more specific.
I think the hands-on report was weak and unprofessional, and the 4:1 ratio is meaningless because it would be from users of other systems. If anything, it's a good ratio, because Pentax is outnumbered by a lot more than 4:1 in the market!
All the criticism he leveled at the K7 could be leveled at any DSLR. Canon's snore-inducing xxD range for example.
Meh, whatever. I wasn't a huge fan of that site to begin with, it's aimed more at selling you videos than anything.

Heh, so the huge outpouring of support from people who have "tried" the K7, means what exactly?
It means non-Pentax shooters handled the K7 in a store for 5mins and amazingly, still would prefer to continue using their current system. Since Nikon/Canon marketshare outweighs Pentax by far more than 4:1, that ratio is meaningless.
Not to mention that a lot of people on LL site will support MR's conclusion because they are fans of the site, it's very clique'ish, that place.

I have a DA* 16-50, and the FA 35/50/100 primes as well, and you can actually notice the difference in shots taken with a prime vs the zoom, but it really depends on the shot.
The bokeh is better, and less distortion, and the colour/contrast is all better on the primes, but the DA* is no slouch anyway.
It's a bit horses for courses, I find you can't beat the DA* for overall usefulness, it gives me a weather sealed, flexible one lens setup, and for hiking that's great. One unit to stuff in a backpack or clip to the straps.
When I have time, I like the primes because they give shots that extra bit of fairy dust. But primes are a pain in the ass when you are hiking up a mountain in dusty inland Australia, or rainy coastal Australia, where my shots are mostly taken.
So, I recommend buying them all :D

I didn't particularly mind the K7 review on LL, except the fact that when I read any Leica review on there, the author continually bends over backwards to minimize any problems and wax eloquently about the massive, but mostly intangible, benefits.
It seems a well rounded, solid camera body doesn't really do it for him, fine. But he's rather inconsistent with other cameras, even ones with hugely glaring flaws get a free pass because they are Leica.

I don't know about worldwide, but here in Australia if you spec out a laptop with similar specs and build as an Apple one, say from Sony or Lenovo, you'll end up in the same ballpark pricewise.
Of course you can get cheaper if you buy a consumer laptop from Dell, but that's not comparing apples and oranges, as it were.
I still wouldn't buy one, because of the lack of software support in OSX, but shrug.

The first problem is that the K-7 feels quite lumpy and crude compared to rival cameras from Canon, Nikon and Olympus, although it does have the edge over Sony's dSLRs.
Most reviewers praise Pentax ergonomics, hell, DPReview said the K20D was "best of the best". Lumpy and crude, that's just a weird statement. Ergonomics is a personal thing, but I couldn't say any DSLR was "lumpy and crude", most of them feel fairly similar overall. Until Pentax introduces a smooth and silent autofocus system across the board, like Nikon's Silent Wave Motor or Canon's Ultrasonic Motor, it's always going to be at a disadvantage.
Wow, it helps doing at least ONE google search on the product you are reviewing! How embarassing to be that incompetant. Maybe by "across the board" he means all Pentax lenses should have SDM? Funny, not all Canon/Nikon are their silent system either...

Why what? I just like a few of the Apple laptop designs, so if I could buy a barebones hardware only setup from them, I'd consider it.
OSX is useless to me, but their laptops aren't overpriced for what they are.

I'd do the opposite, I'd run Windows on Apple hardware, like their laptops. Currently, there are too many issues running Windows on their laptops at the moment.
Although the latest laptops with the godawful trackpad would stop me, but previous to that, if Apple allowed you to buy a non-OSX, barebones laptop, I'd consider it.
OSX doesn't have the software I need, so it's a total non-starter.

I don't have any experience with the Sigma, but I do have the Pentax 35mm and it's pretty damn awesome.
Small, light, very well built, feels great and image quality is very good. It and the Pentax 50mm are my two main primes.
Photozone has good reviews, trustworthy and non-biased, they like it too. Pentax SMC-FA 35mm f/2 AL - Review / Test Report
The Sigma was a bit of a strange one, they didn't really like it since it's all concentrated on center quality at the cost of the borders. Sigma AF 30mm f/1.4 EX DC (Pentax K) Review / Test Report |

M9 looks interesting, but like other people have said, the "craftsmanship" of the body is meaningless if in 5 years time your electronics die. You simply won't be able to get them replaced, unless Leica has a very clever system where they can take current tech and fit it to old bodies. Possible I suppose.
I don't see the point in the X1 at all. Crap lcd, that addon viewfinder is clunky and ugly as hell, and with a slowish unswappable prime, at a horrific price?
It's like a hugely overpriced Sigma DP1 or DP2.

So what about DPReview's comment on reduced DR on the 50D in shadows compared to 40D? Nothing you linked to said a thing about DR, just noise. And you still need better lenses to gain any resolution advantage and you need to print LARGE, but with all lenses you will be getting equal or slightly better/worse noise at higher body cost.
I don't actually care, I don't own any Canon gear to justify my purchase, but I think Nikon has done the smart thing in my opinion, keep the megapixels lower and achieve the best high iso performance you can get. There is no need to keep pushing a megapixel number and keeping noise about the same as a few generations ago. I personally want better DR and noise, not more pixels and the same!
I cynically think Canon has done some smart marketing, if the 7D outperformed the full-frame cameras with noise, they'd cannibalize their higher models.

I'd be seriously worried about that many megapixels starting to show the limitations of your lenses. Add that to the fact that Canon degraded image quality with the megapixel jump from 40D to 50D, be interesting to see if they've avoided that problem this time around.
Reviews will be very interesting.

A viewfinder, and maybe add flash as well version of the new Oly bodies would be nice.
I can't justify to myself the EP-1 with that rather pitiful back screen combined with no viewfinder, AND no flash.

JB HiFi sell Pentax, but not much of them.

Use a free browser like Firefox, and install the Adblock and Flashblock extensions.
No more ads, no more flash unless you want to enable it for a specific reason.
Of course, making sure people don't use IE anyhow if you lend them your laptop is another problem.....

I'd definitely buy this mythical Samsung body over the Pentax if it had all these promised functions, but I agree with this post, there is no way that stuff can be shoved into a body of the same size.
Just the articulating screen alone requires a massive re-work of the body.
This is just a wishlist.

What a laughable attempt at acting like you didn't just get caught out in a massive web of lies, or was it astounding incompetance?
I guess there is no real other option than acting flippant when you have embarassed yourself as much as you have.
You bore me. Goodbye.
