Pentax X90 issue

Just to update, the camera is still working and is no longer getting warm. I honestly don't know what the cause was but it's working now so I'm not disputing it.

I still use SLOW flash setting when using the 1\4000, it works wonders and no more dark pictures when using it in such a way, can catch anything moving very easily.

The only problem I have now is trying to get my son to let me use the camera

Thanks,

Paul

Hi,

First of all, today, it began working again, haven't changed any settings at all. I can't explain why but at least it is. If it does this again however, then I know for sure something is wrong.

The camera is still getting warm though. While I am not very camera inclined, from my other electronic and computer related issues, usually this means there is a short when it heats up in an area like that and if yours does not heat up like that, then likely it is a short and has to be returned.

Aside from that, I agree completely on the 1\4000, we had some fun with it today taking shots from pouring water to catch every droplet , throwing cards in the air which look like they are just hanging there, taking a picture of my computer fans spinning, even though it looks like it's standing still, very cool. Reduced shake, almost none at all.

Thanks for the all the help here.

I may have to buy one for myself :)

Somewhat solved.

Still going off the factor of possibly not enough light, I set the flash to SLOW, and it seems to work better? I have no clue why, I never changed the flash settings prior so have no idea why it would effect it now. It's still a bit dark but at least I can get an image. Setting brightness and such does nothing for it either.

I was able to, take an old Reynolds Wrap box, toss it through the air, snap it, and it looks like it's standing in mid air by itself, no blur, still too dark but cool.

So I am going to try it in daylight and see if it does the same tomorrow, if still dark, then I am back to where I started in a way. Now just to see if the camera is supposed to get warm.

Thanks again.

Thank you for the reply Chip.

The 1\4000 was supposed to work to snap things like hummingbirds' wings which we have a lot of flying around our house.

I tried to lower the ISO setting, that had no effect. As far as getting that shutter speed in AV mode, from what I was reading, if you set the shutter speed in M or TV, it would be set this way in AV, so, when switching to AV, I thought it would still adhere the shutter settings.

When I tried it prior, I simply set the shutter speed to 1\4000, it worked fine, my house is not brightly lit at all and no matter what we did to try and create a blur, the camera would snap a still as if nothing was moving. We felt that was pretty amazing, until started making everything dark.

I was hoping there was a setting I missed and going through the manual yet again, pulling my hair out with this camera. I am ready to let my son handle it and me go back to my fixing computers.

I still don't know if the control pad getting very very warm is supposed to happen or not. It is located right on top of the battery.

And yes, I am very new to this. I never owned more than a 60 dollar camera in my life and have a cheap-0 Digital Olympus that may as well be time lapse for how long it takes per picture. I wanted a camera like Pentax myself, but not so sure now. :hmm:

Thank you very much for the links, and the reply. I will read through them and maybe I can try to solve a little of this issue.

EDIT: I tried setting the ISO to 200, shutter speed to 1/200, M, AV, TV mode even with flash, still almost completely black picture. It's ok on Auto or GREEN mode. I noticed it focuses when depressing the snapshot button but every time, there is an ((AUTO)) hand that pops up and it goes black.

Pentax X90
Hi,

I just bought the Pentax X90 for my son. Just received it yesterday as a matter of fact but we are having some odd issues and I'm not sure if they are normal or not.

We have read through the manual, a long one at that, and didn't clarify anything.

First of all, in TV, M, or AV mode, we set the shutter speed to 1\4000 which at first, would take a picture no matter how fast it was moving, now it simply goes very dark , both on the LCD and the picture itself, only the brightest light will show through. If I set the shutter speed as low as it will go, I can finally make out a picture but it's still fairly dark. Even if you depress the snapshot button just to focus, it's almost completely black.

We tried to reset the settings a few times, but it still happens. I don't know if I'm missing a setting or not but it worked before.

Second, is it normal for the camera to get very warm by the mode\del controls? Basically the area on the right of the LCD gets very warm.

Thank You for any help,

Paul
