Based on the sample shots with the trees it looks like it has a lot of purple fringing even at f8. It does look pretty sharp at F2.8 in the samples so that is good.

Is this camera still available? Does it include the body cap, instructions, CD, charger, battery and box? How much for 2 day to California? Finally, I cannot send a private message because you have chosen not to receive them according to the error I got. Thanks.

I just updated mine and so far no issues. The auto focus does seem to be much faster with my DA 17-70 especially at 70, but more testing needed.
My version was 1.03.

The coverage on Youtube is slim pickings. It is as if the camera was not even announced. No word yet from Tom Hogan, so he is also in ignore mode. Then you have these guys - It is so hard to watch. You'll have to fast forward past the Canon 80D discussion. Enjoy :) ---------- Post added 02-19-16 at 06:10 PM ----------

For whatever it is worth Tom Hogan lists Pentax as 5.7 percent of the ilc market so that includes the Q. Fuji is in the 3 range btw.

I had to install the latest patch from about 6 months ago that included support for newer Pentax cameras at the time including the K30. So AF does support Pentax dng for the K30. They update AF about every 6 months with new camera support so I would imagine there should be a new one soon that will likely add support for the Q7, K50 , K500 and K3.

I must have been lucky as well. My copy is sharp even at 70 at f5.6 The corners on mine are soft at 17mm wide at f4 , but are sharp at 5.6. I actually rented a 15mm limited and took shots of my house from 60 feet away. The 17-70 was much sharper in the corners at f4 than the da15. I had to get the 15 up to f8 to get the corners to catch up to 17mm at 5.6.

Sizes of FA (not older) 135 2.8 vs 50-135 is significant.
fa 135 - 375g,8cm
da 50-135 - 765g,13.6cm
With the 18-135 and a small bag of lenses you won't have lug that huge lens on your camera the majority of the time.
I thought the whole point was a small kit?

Focus speed will be superior in option 2. The DA*s are not known for fast focusing yet the 18-135 is very fast according to users and reviews . Major downside is that the 18-135 will not perform as well on the longer end, but you might find that it covers most of your image quality requirements other than that. Bascially it is impossible for any super zoon, including the 18-135, to do as well as the two DA* lenses (obvious I know). The depth of field will not be there if that is important. However, the primes will cover you for the critical stuff anyway. Other optical sins on the 18-135 - distortion, CA etc are fixed either in camera or PP with lens profiles in DXO or LR 3 (will be supported). The f stop is probably not a big deal either with the K-5 with it's high ISO ability. Consider getting a smaller prime to cover the long end too at some point. The old F/FA 135mm 2.8 would be pretty good here, but it's hard to find and has bad CA/flare. Others have mentioned the DFA 100 WR macro which is not too big and has the 49 mm thread to share with all of the other primes. The DA* 200 looks like it is fantastic from the reviews that I have seen, but it maybe too big for your bag. Now I've confused myself. I thought I had it figured out and then you had to startup this thread. |

Nice breakdown Miguel.
The 7D is a fantastic camera, no doubt. However, it is pretty large and overkill for most casual photographers. I have read some complaints from other forums regarding it's size and weight. The D60 seems to be the more logical upgrade for a Rebel owner.

Regarding the dpreview link not working - PentaxForums has temporarily blocked links to dpreview because for awhile now dpreview has been blocking links to PentaxForums from their forum. I am a bit disappointed with some of the K-5 shots so far, and certainly it is very difficult to say that the K-5 has a big advantage over either the the D7000 or D60. If you look at the imaging resource samples and compare those to say the D60 at even ISO 800 the red cloth is just about blown out in the k-5, hardly any detail remains, a terrible result. The yellow appears a bit off too. I checked the k-5 against the k-7 at ISO 1600 and honestly in some ways the k-7 looks more detailed, especially with the red cloth although I know the k-7 starts to falls apart above that, but then again I doubt I would shoot above 1600 too often even with these new models.

Hi all! I just joined Pentaxforums the other day. After what seems like years of casual site perusal, I finally realized that , duh, I should just become a member. I originally bought my K100D to take photos of my then baby daughter. Now with two kids I feel that the investment was well worth it. I now have great shots of my children that I could not have achieved without an DSLR.
I have a modest lens set ( 18-55 I, FA 50mm 1.4, Sigma 70-300 APO), but I hope to expand that and feed the LBA beast. :D
