Lol, I had to blame something! It was shot in shade and that was the WB setting. The closest thing that could have influenced the color is a cedar fence, but it was about 10 feet behind her.
I really like the blue filter, I haven't played with PP filters. All I did was manual WB adjustments. The last one you did is fantastic! Thanks for the help.

My first time to try an up close portrait. It was a nice day, and decided to annoy my daughter by making her sit still for me while I experimented. I'm still struggling with overall color quality, but think most of problem is the kit lens. Anyway, I'm satisfied with the outcome of this one, just need to keep working. C and C very welcome!
Enjoy! |

Thanks! How did you do it? I tried it several times and it wouldn't embed.

Yes, not always to 100%, but larger than what is displayed. What you say really helps me feel better about my shots so far. I was getting discouraged with the image degradation I was seeing. Whew! Thanks!

Thanks! I do use the LCD for the quick review, but realize its' limitations. My tendency is to over analyze on the computer.
I do shoot RAW, but I tend to do the review once it's converted to JPG at the end. I wasn't aware of all the variations regarding the accuracy you mention, that really is good information that you can't learn from reading a book! Thanks so much for the insight

I have a habit of zooming the view of the photos I take to see what the clarity is up close. As a result, I notice a marked decrease in the sharpness. Is this a bad habit for judging the image quality and sharpness? Thanks!

I thought the EXIF is what I included at the top of the post - maybe I have the wrong terminology.

Thanks for the input. I'm still playing around and learning new things, so I thought this close up would be a good test for both me and the camera.

I would appreciate honest critiques on the following two photos. Not so much the subject itself, but the IQ, color, bokeh, sharpness, and noise levels.
Feel free to dis the cat as much as you like :-)
Both are:
Pentax Kx with kit 18-55
ISO 3200
f 6.7
Tv 1/8
55mm
slight WB adjusting
the first one has 100% noise reduction in PSE 9.0
the second one has 50% noise reduction, different WB

Thanks! I was a little concerned about a slower shutter speed because the wind was blowing the trees. But, now I think that would have added a nice effect - live and learn... Thanks again for the help!

Didn't turn out quite the way I wanted - too darn cold and I rushed! Was trying to get the entire sidewalk and demonstrate the color and brilliance of the lights. Wished it was a little clearer and i may have overdone it with PP.

On a trip to Big Bend area of Texas during Thanksgiving. My daughter and I were playing with the camera trying to see what we could do with such a brilliant moon. We set the camera on top of the car and started experimenting, with the intent of trying to show the outline of the mountain by moonlight. I never expected to pick up so many stars, and I have to admit I really like the flare that was created. |
