Video killed the Radio Star (digital Camera)

I was getting excited when I heard a new camera was coming from Pentax. Had been holding off upgrading my K10 to the K20 waiting for the next generation. But when I found that there wasn't a whole lot of improvements (ok, there are some, but I was looking for higher MP) and included video and a $1300 price tag, They lost my sale. Hoping the next generation camera will lose the video. I already have several digital video cameras.

Shooting lightning?

We had a wicked lightning storm roll through here a few weeks ago. I ran outside and just stood there (dummy) and, in green mode, just started clicking away hand held. Out of a hundred or so shots, I only got a few worth keeping. Hail started shortly after and I took off inside. Ended up being one nasty storm. Lots of wind that tore up large trees and a few 'nados. Exciting!!!

Posted a few lightning shots on my flickr page.

Getting f------ with certain lenses

Do the lenses have the 'A' setting on the aperture ring? If not, you need to change your camera settings. Using aperture ring to Permitted in the custom settings menu.
If the lens does, then make sure it is set on 'A'.

How do you store your photo equipment at home?

Been looking for a case. Is this deep enough to fit the K10D with grip?
At that price, I'm tempted to get 2. Give me a place to store my older camera equip.

Just ordered them. Tired of not having enough room in my current case.
Thanks.

I put my cat on a pedestal. Makes him feel superior. Besides that fact that he loves being in front of the camera.

White Lighting Radio flash trigger

Does anyone here use the White Lightning strobes?
Do you use or have tried the radio flash triggers?

I just purchased some White Lighting UltraZaps and was using the Wein safe sync, at least for a bit. Now it's not working. I have been successful using my Sigma flash gun to trigger the WL's. Aiming it up and behind me as to not affect the lighting. There have been several discussions here about the wein not working with the K10D (or also the DS in my case.)

The White Lighting radio flash triggers are fairly cheap compared to Pocket Wizards and other radio triggers. $80 for transmitter and receiver. But concerned about it working with my K10D. I don't have a problem with buying these dedicated triggers either as I don't foresee buying any different lights in the near future.

Thanks

18% GRAY MicroFIBER LENS CLOTH for WB??

Found this recently on another forum.

Grey cards are a historical item these days....Originally designed to assist you in getting "correct" exposure in the full world of film, the usefulness today is mainly for swatting passing insects.

White balance reference cards they work better with digital then the old 18% gray cards.

Remember, I just threw these together in my living room. I have no dedicated room yet. (Oldest turns 18 in 3 months, he he he). Kind of a bad shot. Taken with DS. K10D on tripod. Model lights on. No room to move around. Had to move the sofa and coffee table out of the way. But, it works!

Just uploaded my first shots with the lights. Kids were not enthused at all. But my cat had no problem posing. Actually, I think he enjoyed it. Had to force him to get down from the stool. Cats....

Just got the stuff. I bought from a friend who has sold all her Pentax camera equipment (before letting me know). She threw in a Sekonic L-328 light meter, Tamarac backpack and a Weins safesync. All this for $600. Think it's a deal? Everything is like new condition.

I shot PEF on my DS. But the K10D PEF is different enough that my old PS CS will not open, and Adobe is not adding it to CS. So DNG for me now. CS likes it, so I like it.

I'm about half way there, OK, so maybe only a third, maybe. I wonder why I keep all my boxes myself? Take up so much room.

I don't know if these umbrella's are 'shoot through' or not (yet). I hope the LBA has calmed down. Just had a good 'fix' (Pentax DA 50-135 f/2.8 & Sigma EX DC 18-50 f/2.8) so hopefully so. Could use some primes... cr@p... stop it, stop it stop it.

I have basically the same equipment at work (except they have a C*n). But I never have time to play, uh, I mean learn. So maybe now I can figure out this strobe lighting stuff a little better.

Now, which one of my kids can I get to be my subject? Once they discover I got these lights, they will never come back home. Hmmmmm. ;)

Just purchased some new (used) equipment. Take delivery in the morning!

(2) White Lightening Ultra-Zap 1600
(2) Heavy-Duty 13' Stands
(2) Reflectors
(1) Softbox 24" x 36"
(2) 32" Umbrellas
(1) Set of Honeycomb Grids
(1) Set of Color Gels
(1) Gel Mounting Kit
(1) Set of 6 Color Gel Holders
(1) Reversible black/white Background
(1) Mottled Brown/Gold Background
(1) Mottled Med Grey Backdrop
(1) Backdrop Stand

Think that will make a decent studio? I think the backdrops are 5' x 7'. Now I gotta find the room to put them in. Use Ultra-Zaps at work, so I know the lights. Think I am gonna get me a wireless transmitter and receiver. At work I keep tripping over the cable.

Sigma 18-50 2.8 arrived

Got my replacement for the Pentax 16-50 today. Nice lens. But I think they screwed up on the lens hood. There is no way this hood will fit on this lens. I can put the lens completely through the hood without it even touching. I am guessing it's a 77mm hood, not the 72 that's needed. I hope I can exchange just the hood.

Anyways, have not had a chance to take any pics yet with the new glass (and new Sigma 530 flash). But will soon.

K10D opinion needed from canon 300d (Digital Rebel) users

I use the 300D at work, and K10D at home. I Prefer the K10D.

1. I have just as much problems focusing with the 300D as I do with K10D. The 300D is much faster and quieter though. But with the Pentax SDM lenses, the K10D now has it beat.

3. The controls on the K10D are much easier to use and logically placed compared to the 300D.

I also like the SD card over CF. I have bent the pins in my CF card reader before. No pins for the SD.

I had received my *ist DS the same week as the 300D at work. A co-worker (long time Nikon/Canon user/saleperson) even prefered the DS over the 300D. If that says anything.

Makes me wonder if I should send the K10D and the Lens to Pentax to get them 'matched' instead of returning the lens in hopes of getting one that is a bit better?
