Heres a couple of macro shots with my k-5 and sigma 105mm macro lens. I need ring flash to help reduce motion blur lol. I could use a tripod but i find its inconvenient for macro shots because your subjects never want to stand still, which of course adds the challenge and the excitement of the hunt. If any one has any experience with the Metz Mecablitz 15 MS-1 could you please let me know what you think or recommend any other good ring flashes for pentax.

Auto Flash Pop Up?

The flash my not pop up automatically but the camera does let you know when it thinks that it does need the flash but it leaves it up to you to decide whether to use it or not. I personally prefer this because i like to underexpose to protect the highlights and not have to worry about a flash going off on accident.

Thank you, it was sort of luck for me too i was originally at the beach to shoot the big waves rolling into the dock due to the high winds. I had finally gotten enough of the wind, rain, and cold and went into a restaurant to grab some food, then out of no where i saw a huge flash. I immediately grabbed my tripod ran outside and started shooting to the surprise of all the restaurant patrons . The second shot was actually the best but the tripod tilted and only half included the dock in the shot. I was so bummed :( but due to a little patience i got the first shot u see.

Food For Thought

I was recently looking over my k-5 and noticed the two mic holes on the righthand side. I never really paid much attention to them before until the other day during a large storm where i was stuck outside in the torrential down poor. The thought popped in my head, are these holes weather sealed. If so where does the water go, is it possible to seal a mic without affecting sound quaility? Its just something i was thinking about and wanted to know if anyone knew the answer?

Here are a couple of shots from last weekend of the crazy strom we had here in Virginia and most of the east cost. Sorry for the horrible quality of the first photo (it was windy and the tripod kept shaking), but its my first lightning shot ive ever captured and i love it.

I was wondering the same thing too maybe they will include it in a future firmware update as well as more manual options for video. I myself never really use the video mode except for test shots so im not really missing out on anything.

No i dont think you can, even if you zoom in before you start recording as soon as you press the shutter botton it will immediately zoom out to the full screen.

Wow thats absolutely amazing i've always loved ir and wish i was better at it but i could never seem to get the pure white foliage as you did. With some trial and error i can mange to get the blue sky effect though. Where did you get you kx modified to have the aa filter removed. I might purchase a older dslr for that reason.

How to extract raw data from jpegs

Hi yes i read somewhere that pentax saves the raw data from the jpeg it takes. I've also stumbled on it once on accident but i cannot figure out how to do it again. I recently took a bunch of pictures of the crane by this lake but, i underexposed the pictures to capture the details in the water. My intent was to later use photoshop's fill light to recover the dark areas but, to my dismay my camera somehow switched to jpeg and now i can no longer do that. Now if you know how to could you please tell me.

Thank you guys very good advices here. Ive since ordered a replacement camera through amazon, they are just amazing at customer service. Its been about 45 (15 days after their official return policy) since i received my camera, and they are sending me a new one without having to send my old one bag first. Now has anyone who received a replacement from amazon recently had any problems?

I have been shooting with the pentax K-5 for a while now without any problems nor worries, until today i decided to tho the senor stain test. As it turns out my camera does have the stain on the sensor but, its so tiny it took me a while to find it. I began to wonder to myself how detrimental is this really to normal every day shooting because, you have to go to such extremes to actually see it. So i ask you are the stains really so bad that the ruin you ability to take normal every day photographs? I do understand that for the price you pay you expect a perfect problem free camera but, how often is anything is life perfect huh :ugh:? I'm a very novice photographer and i never really pixel peep to find problems in my photos. I'm happy as long as they are pleasing to the eye. So i ask you professional more seasoned photographers and novices alike, how much do the sensor stains affect you, and are you keeping or returning your camera?

Here are a few shots take of the past winter storm. I love how i was able to under expose the image then later use fill light in photoshop to bring out all the details in the shadows, while still retaining the details in the snow. If you do look closely u will see that these images do show a lot of pf and ca but for normal prints and an untrained eye they are perfect.

Oh sorry these images have been PP in photoshop with the contrast boosted. The B/W pics straight out of the camera are a bit bland for me. Im not quit sure if the cameras DR helps with boasting contrast in PP without ruining the image though. I know i couldnt've boosted the contrast on the k7 this much without getting completly black areas and off color whites.

These are some high contrast shots with the k-5 and 15-55 wr lens. I really do wish that i had a sharper lens, able to capture the details that the sensor is capable of generating. :(

Here are a couple of shots i took. The first one was taken with the pentax A 50mm f1.4 at iso 100, the second one was taken with the sigma 105 f2.8. Now if anyone could let me know how to upload files larger that 1.5mb i would greatly appreciate it.

K7 to K5 upgrade -> any regrets?

I had to send my k-7 back because of a problem with the rear e dial back in august. At the time i was a lil upset because the k-7 was my first dslr and i truly loved it, and since i had nothing to else to compare it to i did not notice any of its shortcomings. One night i was just looking around debating on whether or not to get a new k-7, then i saw the rumors about the new k-5. At the time most of the specs where just unreal but i decided to stick it out and make my decision when I've seen both cameras in action. Well I'm glad i waited because the k-5 is a dream to use, and I'm glad they didn't change to body. The ergonomics were great, the weather sealing perfect, the size fits most hands perfectly, the weight was well balanced, the look was professional, and it wasn't as big and imposing as most Nikon or canon dslrs. After i received my new k-5 and ran a few frames through it, i realized what i was missing with the k-7. I take a lot of pictures of grey military aircrafts, but often in order to capture the subtle grey tones in the aircraft u would have to take the picture from an angle where the sun was spot on or the shadows would hide the details. Worst of all was when the sun would reflect off the canopy and the whole image would be ruined, but now with the k-5 i can just under expose and then use fill light in photo shop and get great images. I've never had a problem with sharpness like other people, but then i don't pixel peep like other people do. Overall i absolutely love my new camera and i really do believe that pentax struck gold with this one. Now if only they can fix that video issue then this would truly be an all around camera useful for every thing. Incidentally I've notice that the k-7 and the k-5 are not very sensitive to infrared light so if you do plan to do infrared photography plan on 2 to 5 min long exposures.

I'm not a writer. If i wanted to be a writer i wouldn't have spent 1500 on a camera intended for taking photos not writing :hmm:. I would've spent it on a computer, or the latest Microsoft office. This is a free forum. You did not spend any money so there for you don't have to try to get your moneys worth by reading every forum post. If you do not like what i have to say or how i say it then please do not read it. Now as far as my photos are concerned you are more than welcomed to provide CONSTRUCTIVE criticism here.
