Hello,
At first I thought this was a Gnat because of the tiny size. She's probably 1/ 20 the size of a regular house fly.
If not even smaller than that.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the little ball exiting the rear of the Fruit Fly was suspended in mid air.
If I lived to be a million years old I could probably never get this again.
The amount of time it takes for the egg to exit the rear of the fly and hit the leaf has to be measured, like several thousands or maybe even a millionth of a second.
This particular fly, according to Wiki, measures slightly smaller than 1/8 of an inch. So scaling, the little ball from the rear of the fly to the leaf must be........like really freggin close.
The time it would take to drop and hit the leaf is ...........infinitesimal.
Anyway , enough of that. The imgage was captured using Pentax K5, 25mm kenko extension tube, Pentax 100mm Wr Macro, topped off with a Raynox dcr-250 and Pentax AF160 ring flash.
It's a once in a lifetime shot. |

Great theme for this week's contest, pentaximus! A lot of great shots so far.
Here is my contribution. I took this picture because I love the effect sodium-vapor lamps create. It's a 39 sec shot. |
