OK, I agree that ursamajor may have posted too many times on the same topic - the FF issue, but he has posted mostly in the threads that are related to this issue. Although this may be annoying to the users of the forum, I think, however, that the way pentax handles this issue is the real problem, not that ursamajor complaint too many times! I think that everyone who thinks on buying K-R/K-5 should be aware of the FF problem. Why don't pentax say something official about it!? Why don't the moderators do a sticky thread in the K-R forum section!? I wish I knew about this issue before buying it!! Instead, so many people have to lose time on speculating whether Pentax will fix this issue. This is just wrong!!!!! This is what we should complain about and ursamajor is doing exactly this!
I said it before - I owned nikon d300, d90, Canon 40D, 5D and now pentax only because of the small primes. But I am really disappointed with the FF saga!!! I bought my K-R from US and I have international warranty, so if I can get my money back I will.

It is good that your AF was adjusted, as it may have not been accurately adjusted during production. So now all you have to do, as all of us, is wait for the firmware fix for the FF issue. As far as I am concerned, there is no doubt whatsoever that Pentax is working on it, although they should have said it officially! We just have to be patient. No need to worry anymore, I do not. We just have to wait until it is published :)

If the FF issue is not resolved, although from some time I am sure it will be based on clues and rumors, I will definitely sell my K-R along with my four DA limited lenses.

No such chances, if they fix the K-5 they will be able to fix the K-r. The logic that users expect more from K-5 does not concern the common features of the cameras, like auto focusing. When you buy K-5 instead of K-R you expect more from ergonomics and extra features. I personally deliberatly bought K-R as it is smaller and to safe money for my limited lenses. So I use it with lenses worth more than 2000 dollars. So in this situation K-R is by itself a very serious tool which should work flawlessly when covering its own specifications.

ursamajor, thanks for the link to the article - really impressive. It is a very important article that potentially will eliminate speculations whether the FF issue exists in K-5 and K-r among the pentax community, or at least the intelligent part of it.

Falconeye, I am an user of pentax K-r. I saw the problem of FF from the very first shot! Unfortunately, I bought also 15mm, 21mm, 40mm and 70mm limited lenses. At least it will be unfortunate if Pentax will not fix the FF of K-r and K-5 as I will have to sell my pentax system.
I find it absolutely unacceptable that an user will post such extensive info on the problem BEFORE Pentax. This is just wrong as Pentax should have addressed this issue themselves a long, long time ago in this very galaxy!!! I also think Pentax should know all that is in the OP report, but I find the report invaluable for the pentax community! Thank you for this as a pentax user!

I am sure that the denial of the problem is the official version, however, I think Michael clearly hinted that: 1. Pentax is working on a solution and 2. Pentax will announce it ONLY after it is ready. This was the first time I see such a hint in comunication with Pentax US and I have spoke to them myself! However, this is not that important. For me, what the Bulgarian Pentax representative said is enough and that is that Pentax Germany confirmed that Pentax is working on a firmware in order to fix the FF.

As far as I am concerned, there is no doubt that Pentax will try to fix the FF issue with a new firmware.
In the case of Pentax US - they are just not confirming it directly, but the guy said:
'Michael C: i am sure they are looking into it and they would post any information once they have looked into i'
This is an indirect confirmation. Pentax Germany and Pentax Europe has confirmed it in communication with users directly already.

Such an unexpected move fro me, as I had to argue with you about the FF. Almost as in a Tarantino movie :) Seriously, though, I understand how you feel, I have been with Pentax for 3 months only and I am not happy with the problems K-R has displayed, but mostly with the way Pentax are coping with this. I lost many hours investigating and writing on the pEntax forum about the FF issue. Instead, Pentax could have saved me all this time by just apologizing and specifying where exactly the problems was.
I wish you find a brand that is up to your standards of quality but mostly communication!

OK, so now several sources have verified this. Let's wait for the firmware then!!! I do not want to sell my limited lenses - they are great. The K-R is also great, if we forget about the FF.

FH, I personally exept your apology. I might have been little harsh when replying to you, hence I apologise as well! However, as I said, this whole FF issue makes me uneasy, as I spent money not only on the K-R but on limited lenses as well, and for a second month they are unusable for the 60% of the things I shoot! And all this after I sold my Canon 5D...
Now, if this is a firmware problem, there is no way it is not in all K-Rs. There is the possibility, that in some cases it is more prominent as a bad calibration of the sensor might be adding to the firmware FF issue. I think my K-R is like that - the firmware FF issue (if there is such, but I think there is), plus bad calibration of the sensor. So, when I receive my international warranty from Pentax US I will send my K-R for calibration anyway and then wait for the firmware fix...

FHPhotographer, I noticed these days that when I test my focusing from close distance with, let's say 40mm at 2.8, the focus is almost accurate. When I move further away the FF gets more and more visible. This is just an observation, I do not claim it to be accurate, but I am just sharing my thoughts.
I really hope not all K-Rs have this problem, that would mean that when I get my international warranty from pentax US, the Germany pentax service will be able to fix it, as the problem will be hardware. If it is firmware, than I do not know what to say. Why Pentax just do not make an official statement... So dissapointing - whether some or all K-Rs have this issue, they need to make a statment!!!

I never said all K-r have this issue, although many K-r have the problem, as reported by the users. The bad thing is that pentax does not comment on this - this is just wrong! I shot with 6 dslr models for the last 3 years and I saw K-r had problem from my FIRST shot just by checking the picture on the camera screen! I do not understand you trying to explain to me and others how insignificant the FF on OUR K-Rs is. With my 21mm limited lens at 3.2 aperture it is about 20 centimeteres in artificial light!!! I sent it for repair and no freaking difference whatsoever! Plus, the e-dial was not working when the camera arrived! What the hell is this! This is just unacceptable!
I have the right to complain about a very serious problem with MY pentax product and it is out of place you telling me how significant it is. Plus, I do not need your advice what to do with my camera. Just, please, add something constructive to the discussion if you want to participate, because franckly, I am worried with this problem for the last month now, and comments like yours are tactless. You have a working AF - I am really glad for you, but I spent some money on K-r and limited lenses, whant to take pictures inside without flash and the pictures are bloody useless.

Now, I took my pentax k-r from the service in Bulgaria. I made only quick test shots and the issue with the auto focus is not corrected at all :((( I will also write back when I have the chance to test it more extensively but Front Focus is visibly there in the several pictures I took with 21mm and 70mm limited lenses .
Now, the good thing is that I will be issued an international warranty from Pentax US and hopefully I will be able to use this warranty in Bulgaria or Germany to fix this problem without having to pay for it!!!!

FHPhotographer, sorry, but what is the meaning of explaining that you do not care if the focus is accurate or not!? I cannot use my pentax 70 2.4 wide open AT ALL! Whether this is an issue for you is completely irrelevant. What matters is the OBJECTIVE truth that my pentax k-r does not focus correctly thus working with thin DOF is impossible. It even front focuses with my pentax 21mm at 3.2. CLEARLY, the same situation is with the K-R of ursamajor and cloud016. What is there to discuss more about it - I do not understand...

EricT, the adjustment is done not for different color temperatures, but for different physical temperatures of the focusing sensor in Kelvin (Celsius) degrees.

FHPhotographer, I really do not want to convince anyone about how serious the focusing inaccuracy of my K-r is in some situations. But it is so bad that I cannot use my 70 2.4 or my 40 2.8 wide open with or without the focus correction provided in the menu. I am not talking about close to macro focus range. Doing a portrait in artificial light with AF is impossible. I shot nearly 1000 (one thousand) test pictures in different situations and different objects, gave up and sent it for calibration which I have been told did not fix the problem.
Anyway, when I have it with me and test it again I will let you know.
