I share your frustration, but have discovered a few things along the way about the K-5 that have convinced me to keep it for now. First, it took me three bodies, but I finally managed to get one (B&H) that had no stains or e-dial problems. My current body is from the most recent batch sent to the US (389XXXX, I think).
The low light focusing was a real problem for me as low light performance is one the main reasons to get this camera. I saw the problem regardless of the light source. It front focused in any low light situation. However, the third body seems to do so less severely which leads me to the conclusion that this may be a calibration issue. The worst offending lens is the Tamron 28-75mm which is going back to Tamron for calibration.
However, my most interesting discovery came after purchasing the 18-135mm. It has virtually zero low light focusing issues. Dead on. I have no idea why that is the case (perhaps the problem is related to large aperture focusing), but it at least enables me to confidently use the camera in low light when needed.
I should also add that live view autofocus is usually spot on regardless of lens or low light. This is admittedly a work around, but it at least buys me some time for Pentax to work out the kinks.

When I'm in P mode front dial controls shutter and rear controls aperture.

I'm on my second body and the flash system requires you to dial in correct exposure with on board and external flashes - you cannot rely on the metering for now. Hopefully Pentax fixes this sooner than later.

I'm relatively new to Pentax so forgive what might be a newb question; but what do you get from TAv mode that you don't get from simply using the front and rear dials in P mode?

I returned my first K5 body with a delayed reaction on the rear e-wheel. The second body seems better. I thought it was a software issue at first, but it appears not to be the case.
BTW - is there any particular function for the front wheel where this happens more often?

The rear dial delay happens all the time. I take it that it's not common to have several clicks with no response? At first I thought it was a software bug or that it wss a normal delay but the front dial has no such lag
I did the 1.01 update and the problem persists.
The battery issue happens in regular p mode and not in live view.

I've had my k5 for three weeks now and notice a few small bugs other than those already mentioned in other threads.
1. My rear dial wheel will not respond immediately when turned. It sometimes takes a few clicks to begin whatever function asssigned. Does anyone else have this problem?
2. Even when there is charge remaining on the battery the camera will suddenly show zero or low battery, evertything will blink and everything stops working for about 2 seconds and then it goes back to normal. I originally thought this might be the byproduct of a new batty but it happened again today in the 4 th charge cycle.
Any thoughts? This is my first pentax (a100, d90, a550) and thought this might be a common issue?
