Pentax FA 31mm limited on Sony A7

Nice shots and thanks for sharing; interesting that Zeiss said that the Loxia will correct lenses designed for films that are fuzzy/distorted in the corners when use with digital sensors, but all the shots generally look fine except maybe the second before the last shows fuzziness. Did you notice any obvious image problems at the corners (other than vignetting)?

You assume Pentax care enough to get another provider. Pentax stayed with this provider after last year's fiasco -- this is not a first occurrence; and from what I can tell, this time around some of you actually got a lens, which is a lot better than last year.

I was very tempted to get this when it was on sale a few days ago. But after finding Zeiss will be selling the Loxia 35/2 that's designed for sensors, I decided not to ... you should do a comparison when you have both :-)

I think it was around $850, then it was increased to $1000 when it was still under Hoya. This price is close to the K10D days when Pentax was still Pentax.

I stopped caring about what Pentax does. The next camera that replaces my K-5 is going to be either a7S or a7II depending on the reviews.

I think the only segments that Sony a7 series don't cover are the professional and lower end market.

I think I read a while back that some Pentax lens designers went to work for Sigma. Anyone know if there is any truth to that?

That's very nice color rendering; thanks for sharing. I'll be on the look out for this lens to see if there are good deals out there. I heard the A* version of this is also very good ...

Anyone tried the new Zeiss FE 35mm from Sony can comment on the vignetting? There seems to be quite a bit of complains about vignetting on Amazon ...

It's the DA 35 f/2.4 non macro because the lens is the same as FA 35 f/2.0 with cheaper stuff.

It's just the composition of the photos that looks like there is vignetting. The first 3 photos all have dark corner backgrounds, and the others more or less have the same. I think everyone is condition to see dark corner as vignetting because of those popular filters.

I'll get this if the EVF is good and reviews of final product are good. If I have Minolta lenses, I'll definitely get this.

This is the kind of camera that I thought Pentax would make as well. When I got the K-5, I thought that should have been a FF camera, and I wouldn't order any more Pentax until it's a FF, or if someone else come up with a small FF, I'll leave Pentax. I tried my friends' Canon FFs, and they always seems too big and bulky though their performance is miles better than Pentax; I'm not a pro.

I'm sure Pentax will release a FF next year. For Pentax, FF is always coming next year.

The only lenses I know of that had some comparison to Leica are the FA Limiteds, not the HD or DA.

I'm only replying to the price comment.

If wasting money is your thing, then by all means, go for it.

Getting a full frame, high quality zoom from Nikon is going to be cheaper than getting 3 Pentax HD primes.

Nope, just not blind.

Pentax 35mm f/2.8: Pentax SMCP-DA 35mm f/2.8 Macro Limited Series Autofocus 21730
Canon 35mm f/2.0 IS USM: Canon EF 35mm f/2.0 IS USM Standard Prime Lens 5178B002 B&H

Pentax 21mm f/3.2: Pentax Wide Angle SMCP-DA 21mm f/3.2 AL Limited Series 21590 B&H
Canon 28mm f/2.8 IS USM (FF): Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens 5179B002 B&H Photo Video

Yes, I'll give Pentax the size advantage. But if I really care about size, I'll look at Sony -- which most likely my next camera if Sony release a compact full frame.

There is no value now at the current prices; there will be no value when Ricoh release a new Pentax camera. I can get Canon or Nikon lenses with lower prices, more features, and faster. The only reason to keep using Pentax is if you already have the lenses. I used to recommend Pentax to people I know because of the value a few years ago; I do the math, compare features, look at market share (which implies certain level of support from 3rd party). Recently, a friend of mine wants to get into photography -- I tell him to go either Nikon or Canon; it's a no brainer.

I don't think there are fire sales of merchandises until late 2008 and early 2009.

The only thing I can think of is that after the price increases in the US, Ricoh got an increase in profit and revenue, so they're normalizing the prices relative to the US prices :/

I don't know why the 15mm is the same price as 21mm, which seems to cost less to make.

I got mine 3 years ago at $570 and was that price at the beginning of this year before the insane price increase -- so this price is not bad.
