No doubt. The lack of any weather sealing claim from Nikkor lenses is what turned me away from Nikon cameras.
This makes sense. I'm just trying to wrap my head around dropping a boat load of cash on something that I don't have any experience with at this point. I'm just not sure that this is the smart thing to do, but I am determined to get better photos and want a camera that is stout enough to bring along on my trips. Someone talk me out of this!!!:D

Taking a kayaking trip to Ecuador the end of this month and would love to bring the new camera with.

New to the forum and to DSLR's in general. I'm tired of the mediocre shots I'm getting with my point and shoot cameras when I am in some of the most amazing places in the world. Planning to take some classes once I make the investment so I can use my new toy properly.
I'm going to be using the camera when backpacking, working on ski patrol and throwing it in a sealed dry box in the back of my kayak to shoot some action shots from the river bank of fellow kayakers. It needs to be able to hold up to some trips. My camera is not going to get dunked in the water, but rain drops and dust are probable.
Pentax seemed like the most bang for the buck and there is not a weather sealed micro four thirds available at this point.
I am thinking K-5. I was planning on the kit lens (18-55mm) and adding the 50-200mm. The reviews on both of those lenses are mediocre, but they are inexpensive.
The reviews on the new 18-135mm are better, but at $500 it adds some pause.
How much can I expect to get for a brand new kit lens if I sell mine? This might help to bridge the cost gap.
Thoughts?

Looks like those are going for over $500 right now. Do prices usually come down? Where is the best place to buy? Thanks!

Unless someone can talk me out of it :D, I'm planning on getting a K-5 with the 18-55mm lens along with the 50-200mm.
