Poll: Contest Poll Contest #53 (January - Orange)

All excellent points. I should have clarified that the reason I stated my initial question, is because the contest was about a color, and colored filters abound. A photo that would otherwise be gray, but turned Orange via filter for the sake of contest eligibility, simply seemed unauthentic to me. But I concur that the end result really is, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And very true, that the freedom to vote by one's own standards is available, and so much the better.

Oh, and my point about fewer entries, was simply one of my own moot aggravation that to read this thread, I have to wait 5 minutes while my older computer downloads all 150 images again, since they are all loaded into one thread. An upgrade awaits me.

@Jonhock

I am the first to say the Photoshop or Lightroom does its part in taking an extraordinary shot and giving it that extra oomph to make it perfect. I shoot sports and landscape, so plenty of room for it there. But I guess I'm just thinking that for contest purposes, an unretouched photo reflects the pure capability of the photographer. It's rather like the Tour de France. If the winner is found to be using performance enhancements, they lose their title. Pure is more honorable, in competition.

At the very least, it might narrow down the number of entries. :)

What about the obvious use of filters? Some you can tell are just color enhanced. Is that artistic license? Oh and Jayson, mine was a sunset :-D

I wondered why it was 15 votes this time, then I saw the number of entries. I really thought I had a shot this month,....until I saw everyone else's. I'm way out of my league. :(

I wasn't going to enter this month's contest, because I couldn't think of anything interesting to photograph that was Orange, unless it was staged. Then when my niece called tonight and I went to pick up the phone, I glanced out the window. No filters used, retouching or cropping to this photograph at all; shot from my driveway looking over my neighbor's roof toward the setting sun.

Yes, of course! I absolutely love textures and the desert is such an awesome palette of them. I'm also a vet tech and into animal photography (love your avatar BTW) so will be shooting for Heaven Can Wait and other public interest animal events. There's a local meetup group for photography I've joined, apparently they meet and shoot/learn together. Haven't been yet but I'm still waiting for Fedex!! Here's a link if interested: http://www.snphoto.org/ I'm also looking at a two-day DSLR class in January. So much to learn!! Thanks for writing ;)

Hello, my name is Karin and I'm excitedly waiting for FedEx to deliver my new K20D (well, used actually) today and begin my foray into the DSLR world. I was cautioned against Pentax from some course instructors, saying that Canon and Nikon would provide better options. But after hours pouring over camera reviews, many from this wonderful site, I chose Pentax and am sure I'll be satisfied. I will be shooting in the elements and the weather-sealed body and lens options, with the massive 18.4mp, internal image stabilization, affordable pricing, and super support made Pentax my final choice. I am blown away by the photos posted here, and look forward to joining in. I have been point-and-shoot for years and frustrated by the standard "family" looking photos when I know my eye sees so much more. Can't wait to play today! OOOHHHH....is that the doorbell??? :rolleyes:
