So I'm new to the DSLR thing, but a cheap (though not slash proof) option I'm trying out (and so far liking) is from a military surplus store. This is the one I picked up ( Singlepoint Sling O.D. Green Singlepoint Sling - Csm Tactical Gear, Llc. ) but at a surplus store I got it for $9. The ring springs open sideways and is a very easy/secure way to get the camera on/off quickly. There are lots of options though since any simple single point webbing based rifle sling would do the same... they've been around a while and are the inspiration for the expensive camera slings anyway.
If you really want slash resistance, whenever I next get a chance to travel somewhere I would actually worry about it I have toyed with the idea of buying a spectra webbing runner from a climbing supply shop and just getting a clip to go from that to the camera. They are basically pre-sewn loops for rock climbing made of spectra, a very cut resistant fabric used in alot of travel bags. For a usable size its around $10 and would be pretty hard to cut and run.

Looking for a K-7, with or without a lens... I am pretty open to what since I am just starting to build a collection. Anywhere in NC especially around Raleigh/Chapel Hill would be fantastic but shipping is fine.

I'm new to DSLRs but have had some time traveling with a film SLR, and while never that great with it I want to pick things back up and actually learn what I am doing. I'm in the process of getting a K-7 so I can better pictures than my point and shoot I had in the Indian Himalayas... the trip deserved better and the next one will get better.
