I am a Japanese and as I read this article, it is no where saying Pentax is doing mirror less FF and 645 is in early stage. This guy who wrote this article is just trying to sell the magazine with more detailed interview of Mr. Kitamura. All I could read from the article is Mr. Kitamura said in his interview that he is trying to start developing mirror less FF right now and his vision is even to expand to mirror less 645.

Yep, I have K-r with 1.01 and have same issue once in a while for no obvious reason. I do not believe it is the firmware 1.11 issue.

Yes, Pentax Japan said in the e-mail it will not be easily fixed with firmware due to hardware limitations. However, they also said in the e-mail, which I may have omitted in the previous thread, they will seek any options that may give even for a little improvement in the future. They are just not feasible to give us a solution or timing for the improvement at this time. I will just wait and see what they will come up with until K-5 becomes a lot more affordable for me...

What is SMC P FA lens?
I see some guys are selling on e-bay but I do not see it is listed on this site lens database. I am not sure what is the extra "P" is for.
Is it same as SMC FA lens? Anyone??

You are correct. K-r has new AF module already, that was what I read from the original e-mail I got. They are not talking about replacing existing module. They do not have any countermeasure at this point.

Guys, I got response from Pentax Japan. I really do not think there will be firmware update any time soon according to the e-mail I got from Pentax Japan. This is what the Pentax Japan said, in my Japanese translation.
We confirmed the issue by re-creating the condition. We have put newly designed AF module in this model to improve the capability. However, it is unfortunate to have this AF issue under certain conditions.
One of the factor of this issue is due to the limitation of the hardware, it is difficult to resolve the issue only with firmware update. (When Japanese says difficult, it means impossible.)
We are truly regret that we cannot meet your expectation. Pentax is still looking for the possible improvement for the issue, however, at this point the current firmware seems to be the best we can do.
If you like to confirm this information, I have the phone number for this guy from Pentax Japan.

I have not received any response from Pentax Japan, yet. Now Japan is in Golden Week which is shut down pretty much all businesses for two weeks, so if I will ever get any response from Pentax Japan, it will be after May 6th... I think Pentax Japan will not going to release anything until they come back from their vacation.

OK. I just wrote a very lengthy e-mail to Pentax Japan asking about firmware update in Japanese. If they are working on it, if they are when it will be released, if not what do they think about it. I also told them many people who owns K-r are upset and Pentax should at least explain their stance on their web site. I think I will be totally ignored but I had to try at least.
I work in an Automotive component company in the US where parent company is located in Japan, southern part of Tokyo. Our parent company is still having issue to run their plant due to power shortage. Since our customers automotive OEM are not able to run the production due to parts shortage, our company sales are very not great shape right now, losing $10s million sales... Anything that will save money and bring money those are the priority right now for Japanese companies and I do not think Pentax is not the exception.
I can work around the FF issue right now and being able to take photos in optimal condition by adjusting settings in my own humble way that is the reason I get DSLR, otherwise I will just get P&S. So I am not too concerned right now, besides every machine has its own characteristic and being an engineer I have not yet seen a perfect machine.... Oh well, it is what it is, I will try to do a good job regardless...
Of all that I said, I think they can at least announce their plan if any or if don't for K-r situation on their web site... So, let's see if they even respond my e-mail....

Japanese Pentax website posted their plant and facility just got power back last week and started normal operation. May take a while to get back where they left off.
