Ok, thanks good to know. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a bad copy. ---------- Post added 12-20-16 at 03:27 PM ----------
Yeah, it autofocuses just fine. Although I think I will need to do a fair amount of fine adjustments.

I am not moving the focus ring while attached to the camera. It just feels like the gears(?) are stiff and clunky.

Hi all,
I just picked up a SMC Pentax -F 35-135 lens on ebay and its focus ring clicks a little :( Is that normal? it feels as though the gear that is focusing is not as smooth as I am used to. It's not a very audible click, but if you hold the lens a few inches from your ear you can definitely hear it.
Thanks

Here are the results from my K1 that was purchased last week. The image below is of two, two-minute exposures with the lens cap on and the viewfinder covered. At first I thought the left image looked pretty good, but when I viewed it on a different monitor at work I noticed lots of white dots.
Is this a "normal" result? Or a reason for me to return / exchange my camera for a different one?
ps. looks like Pentax Forums compresses the photos a bit. Here is the PNG out of photoshop. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/38906547/_IMG0143.png |

So will a long exposure with the lens cap on suffice to test my K1? Raw images aren't affected?

Hey everyone,
I just got my K1 yesterday manufacture date 2016:09:10. which I think is September 10th of this year (I'm in the US where the standard date format is different). I stumbled on this forum after I found about 7 hot pixels and I was looking to see if others had the same issue. After reading this forum I was wondering if someone could tell me how I would test for this issue. Take a picture at 2min with the cap on? Or is it specifically an issue where there is some contrast where I would need to take some night photos?
If anyone is interested in results from my newish camera I can post the results here.
BTW, Running pixel mapping seems to have fixed the hot pixels for now.

I had the exact same situation, and they all turned out to be dust. 398xxxxxx. Just use a blower and it will come off.

In my opinion the Eye-Fi card is one of the most innovative and down right nifty photographic accessory's made in years. I'm an enthusiast photographer that is slowly making his way into professional wedding photography, and an Eye-Fi card would allow me to create a wireless tethering system between my camera and my laptop right on site. This would not only allow me to quickly check focus and metering on the expanded screen, but it would also allow clients to view pictures right out of the camera.
I am also excited about the prospect of syncing the Eye-fi card with my Android phone. I discovered that they make a few Apps for my mobile device that would allow me to upload my pictures to my Flicker or Picassa account automatically RIGHT FROM MY PHONE! now how slick is that! That would be a 100% mobile 100% cable free transfer of my photos from anywhere in the world!! (as long as I have cell service)
Imagine being able to update your Friends remotely, effortlessly, and instantly, while you are on a vacation! https://www.pentaxforums.com/accessoryreviews/Lowepro-SlingShot-102-AW.html |

Yes, its a horrible camera, and a horrible company.
Go sell it (if you actually own one), and let the rest of us enjoy our horrible camera in peace.

Which lens is sharper at 400mm? I hear that the 120-400mm is "generally" sharper than the 500mm sibling, but since I'm not necessarily concerned with 500mm I'm wondering if the longer lens would result in a better 400mm since its not extended all the way.

If live view focuses accuratly where AF fails to hit the mark, wouldn't that indicate a software flaw?
Can anyone confirm that Live View is more accurate at low light?

At least we can all finally agree that their is a focusing flaw; the severity of the flaw, however, is up for interpretation. For me, and I'm sure many others, its simply extremely disappointing that this camera possess such a documented focusing anomaly. It puts a irritating taint on such a otherwise commendable camera.
Pentax may, or may not solve the issue but ultimately consumers have see it for for themselves; at least we know what to look for now.
After reading all (OK most) of your post, I've decided to go ahead and purchase a K5. Thanks to everyones input its obvious that I need to see the issue for myself. The degree of the issue seems to fall somewhere between: an annoyance and something you have to keep in mind, it depends on how much low light photography you do.
Thanks for hard work.

There are two different lesnes at the focal length of 120-400mm, one with OS and one without. Apparently the newer lens that offers OS is optically better at the longer end, and it would be nice to seperate the two for the purpose of scoring.
Thanks.

Im reading a lot of post that indicate a FF Problem at 3-4 "EV"
My apologies, but I have a rookie clarification question. When you say "at EV 3-4" do you actually mean "LV" (light level)? My understanding is that LV is a scale used to estimate your light level and a value of 3-4 would be something like photographing streetlights or a VERY dim lit room.
I thought LV was used to discuss how well lit your subject is where EV is a compensation setting on your camera.
I know its probably just semantics, but I just wanted to clarify for my information.
Thanks,

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that its a software issue... but it seems like such a glaring FF issue would have been picked up in pre production if it was a hardware issue (you would hope anyway). I really REALLY hope this doesn't boil down to a QC problem again.

I'm in the same boat. I want to upgrade to a K5 so badly I can barely stand it. BUT $1500 is a lot of money for a camera that MIGHT focus properly in low light situations. What makes the situation even more troubling is that SOME K5 owners (with the same firmware) are reporting that their unit focuses just fine, which COULD indicate that their MIGHT be a manufacturing issue! I have also read, however, that even those that claim to have a perfectly focusing K5 will find some FF if they look hard enough. Either way, its a large investment in a camera body when its just a part of your camera kit and we don't know if it is working properly.
Some dedicated members of this website (falk) are investigating the issue, and word is pentax is working on a fix that SHOULD be out soon. Until then I would hold onto your hard earned cash... or invest good glass :) . My $.02

Hey everyone, I'm planning on getting a K5 soon and in the meantime I'm upgrading the rest of my equipment (lenses and the like)
My current SD card is old, and I will probably want to get a new one, so I was wondering was you thought about the Eye-fi cards. Are they worth it? or would it be better to get a class 10 card?
I really like the concept, but I can see how it might be a bit gimmicky in practice. Any regrets from Eye-fi owners?
THanks!
