Have you tried the FA version? I have the 120 FA and while it is not the fastest Autofocus lens its pretty darn accurate.

I actually use my 120mm mostly for portraits and occasional landscape. Yeah its a macro lens but I have never used it for macro....so the Image stabilization would be useful. My wife uses a Nikon and she loves the 105 Macro with Image stabilization....it is pretty handy. Still 5k is way to much in my opinion. I can see that price point with wide angle lens...but not with a lens like this.

So this lens obviously is interesting. If it matches the sharpness and contrast of the 120mm macro it will be great lens. My only concern is that the rumor is showing this lens at $5000. That seems way to high in my opinion. I was hoping for something in the 2-3k range. What do you guys think?

I have never used an expo disc...I bring a color checker passport when shooting landscapes. I get great results with this combo...wife verified
Btw I am colorblind so the passport is with me at all times with shooting because I cannot trust my eyes when it comes to greens and reds.
When I print I always have my wife check my results before I sell a print :)

Where are you located now? If your in the US you can send it to pentax usa and request a loaner while your unit is being worked on. When you buy this camera you should of became a Pentax Pro member

I wanted to share these 2 clicks I got the other night. I also shot a few on my Mamiya RZ with Ektar and Velvia...not sure how they turned out yet.
Anyway these were shot with the 645D using 2 ND grad filters. I am not a huge fan of HDR so I wanted to get it right with one shot. My results really surprised me. I did a little bit of editing but it didn't require a whole lot. The light was gorgeous and the bluebonnets in this field were simple stunning. Hope you guys enjoy these shot as much as I do. The images were shot with the FA 35mm and are very sharp.
2.5 second exposure
6 seconds (sun was already over the horizon)

I am aware of Astia being gone....I have about 50 rolls in the fridge now. I actually have been using Portra lately...so far I like it a lot.

This scared me at first...but after re-reading it I see they will continue with Portra color negative film. Personally I am not a fan of Kodak's Ektachrome...I have been sticking with Astia and portra for portraits and of course Velvia for other stuff.

lol. I picked my moments carefully when shooting during the labor. My wife is my assistant so she is used to me always having the camera around. I got the evil eye once and learned from that ;)

Pentax 645n 45mm FA @ f2.8
Kodak Tri-X 400 @ 1600:
This is about 20 hours into labor. After roughly 24 hours the midwives transferred us to the hospital. My wife tried an additional 8 hours but progress was slow. The end result was a c-section but mom and child did great!

i use the alienbee wireless triggers.I think in the 3 years I have owned them I maybe had 2 misfires. They are super reliable and if you want have really long distances. I only use them with large strobes.

If your reading the 14 stops off of dxo mark then I tend take that with a grain of salt. It says my 5d MKII is almost 12 and my 645D as 12.6. I can pull way more from my 645D. Maybe I am wrong here but I can pull way more detail from Ektar film than I can with my 5d MKII. Then again all these test are technical test.
Anyway, Digital is so much easier to deal with overall. I just started using film again and I love it...but I do see why many people stopped using it. Film has been a great benefit to me....it's caused me to slow down and make sure to get it right the first time. Heck the 645D had the same effect on me as well...but film really pushed me.
I shoot 2-3 times a week and would shoot 200-300 shots of that I would give the client around 50 shots to proof with my 5D and later 5D MKII. Since I got my 645D that number went down to around 100-200 shots taken....and thats with my wife helping.

Great shot Tuco....this shot really shows the power of DR with film (especially b&w). I don't think a shot like this could be done with the current line of digital cameras. Maybe I am wrong but the fact that it's appears to be pretty bright outside the store tells me that if this was done with digital it would be almost completely blown out and unrecoverable. You could probably meter the inside and underexpose by 2 stops then try to bring it back in but you would get severe noise and loss of detail. This is just my opinion based on experience of trying shots like this myself.

I have owned the 645D for a while now and love it. I have used it for 100% of my portrait work professionally and my landscape work. But I recently picked up a 645N and have been using it along with a Mamiya rz67 that was given to me by a family member. I love all 3 cameras. For the past two weeks I have been shooting almost nothing but film and developing it myself (b&w and c41). The experience is great.
I do own a Canon 5D MKII, but my wife has pretty much taken that camera for herself. When I do professional shoots its me with the 645D and my wife with the canon. I did my first professional shoot yesterday with film....but I must admit that I still used the Pentax 645D just to be safe. I shot 4 rolls of film (2 in the Pentax 645N and 2 in the mamiya). Both shot with Portra 160N film. I did about 40 photos with the 645D. Each camera has it's own unique look. The film produced something that is more artsy in my opinion while the 645D produced a very sharp and color accurate photo. The client actually selected 9 photos from the 645D and 11 from film. So % wise the 645D technically won here. I do expect this sort of thing to go back and forth because everyones opinion of what they like is different.
Back on subject. I can tell you that going from a 35mm film camera to a 645N will be a very easy transition. Going from 35mm to a 6x7 system will be much harder....manual focusing can be a shock. I love my 645N and the look of film (large film especially) is very nice. Lenses I recommend are: 75mm, 45mm and the 120mm macro....but pretty much every lens from pentax is awesome.

Hey guys,
I am wanting to get the 67 to 645 adapter so I can use the 105 f2.4 lens. Will focus confirmation work with this combo? Also how exactly does it work? Do I set the lens at the aperture I want and set the camera shutter speed manually? I plan to use it with my 645N and 645D.

I just wanted to say it. I haven't shot film in over 15 years and recently picked up a 645N to sort of have as a backup for my 645D (once you go medium format it's hard to shoot 35).
Anyway for fun I have been shooting black and white portraits of my wife and developing them in house. The satisfaction of doing this all on your own is very rewarding. I don't have any stunning images to show off...I just wanted to express the joy I have had.
I am thinking of even trying out my own e-6 processing since everyone wants $10 roll

i think the term "portrait lens" is very subjective. Back when I was using MF Film everyone pretty much said 120mm -150mm...anything longer would flatten things. When I moved to my first DSLR everyone was saying 50mm (35mm film equiv). I personally hated using a 50mm so I opted for a canon 85mm and shot it around f8. For me this worked well....no noticeable distortion. I know most people in the portrait professional would laugh at the idea of a 50mm (35 equiv) as a portrait lens.
Now my studio is not as large as I wish it would be. If I had more room a 150mm would be perfect but for now the 120mm works perfectly for me. Going down to a 90mm will work fine for me. I do professional portraits but not on a large scale. Most of my stuff is a mix. Yes I would of rather seen something a little longer

Wow I was actually looking at the Nikon 8000 ED...you can get these used for way cheaper than the Nikon 9000 ED. If this thing can actually push out a good quality 4000dpi scan then we are looking at 60+ megapixels.
Does anyone know if this scanner will work in OSX?

Man I hope your guess is wrong. I was thinking $1999. $2999 is a little steep IMO. I don't think I would pay $2999 for that lens

I also have not had any issues with the lenses out in the rain or snow. Last year while in Yosemite I was out in what seemed like a blizzard in February. Both the camera and body were soaking wet most of that trip. I had 0 issues with them. One thing I recommend is a filter on your lenses. From my understanding this helps protect the lens
BTW the new Nikon looks nice but that camera cannot compete with the larger sensor of the 645D or any other larger sensor. All of those sample pictures to my eyes lack true depth....texture appears to be missing. It reminds me of images I have done with my 5D MKII and put through heavy noise reduction.
I plan to upgrade my canon whenever the 5D MKIII comes out, but I will more and likely set it at the sraw or whatever option they have if canon decided to go for 35+ megapixels.
I grab my Pentax when shooting landscapes and portraits that require large prints....and often times on my portraits I have to soften them up a lot to make the client happy. Some people object to the amount of detail of pores when the prints are 30x40
