I managed a few shots rather rapidly as two couples headed inexorably towards tables. A few seconds later and the whole thing was in disarray. It would seem that the trick is to get there from the entrance (as the location opens) faster than them :)

Thanks Jer - it was worth the cold hands and ears!
With this setup the perspective is absolutely abrupt, this was taken from a short piece of beach literally just below the church. This makes it hard to compose, but the aim was to have the clump of nearby rocks below the horizon on the left balancing the headland and church above the horizon on the right. The way the shadow line connects the two area was a bonus, as was the way the clouds worked at that moment. Stitching it was a pain due to all the clouds moving even over the short time taking the nine shots. (It can just about be done with four, but spares are handy!).

The clouds did their wispy thing today so I did a quick IR pano at Netley Abbey.
I also managed to lose the lens cap from the Samyang, you'd think a great big black plastic lump like that would be easy to find :(

Different day, different light, I was passing Avebury again today and had time to grab some very quick shots of a stone in a part of the circle I missed last time.
Infrared fisheye shot debarreled with Fisheye Hemi, then toned with Topaz Adjust.

Continuing my journey to evocative National Trust places. On one previous visit ten years ago upon trekking up the hill I found that this particular folly was part of a film shoot for Pride and Prejudice, the previous time there was building work. Disappointing after a long drive.
This time nothing stood in the way :)
Last two images are stitched from multiple fisheye shots using Kolor Autopano Pro.

I tend to use the 8mm exclusively. That might seem strange, but it suits what I do, and with many subjects there isn't much 'fisheye' distortion - both the images above are uncropped and unstraightened.
It helps that it is scarily sharp, doesn't really need focussing, and works extremely well in IR.
The other way I use it is to take several shots and stitch to get up to 360 degree images. Taken at the same time as above but a much wider view even compared to the 'normal' 8mm view:

Today I visited a place that I haven't been to for years, Avebury.
It hasn't changed much in that time, although the rest of the world has certainly changed in the 6000 years or so since it was built.
Even the more recent changes (i.e.trees from the last few hundred years) seem to have a slightly creepy air...
Mostly there were too many people to take pictures, but at one point the couples and the families gradually evaporated, the kids went elsewhere, and all of a sudden I was alone in a bronze-age landscape.
We know a little bit about how it was all done, but as for the people who built the largest stone circle in the world - we don't even know what they called themselves...

Just been to Madeira, and this time I took the K-7 so I could get some IR images. There is lots of modern development, but also some lovely old sites...
No room to take the lumpy old fisheye I normally use, so the DA15 was pressed into service since it is small and can go wide with stitching.

Last summer was the last time I actively took any pictures. No real explanation, it was just that nothing felt right, no new places appealed, the old places had been done to death, the weather wasn't right, etc etc.
I did other things. I sold my other IR camera to someone in Norway. I used my phone to take pictures....
However, recently I kicked off that mood, and set off to revisit one of the old places to see if I could make anything new out of it. All 8mm except the second one.
One with the DA15. It feels like a telephoto in comparison...
And finally the angel that I keep coming back to, this time as a hyper-wide shot from three fisheye images:

It was fairly late yesterday, the tourists had departed. There is a gap in the railing on the terrace of the Ladurée patisserie. In view of the eye-watering price of a couple of exquisite concoctions I thought I'd poke the camera through the gap and get something else to show for it :)

I went for a stroll at the Iron-age hill fort of Danebury Ring today. In one shot I noticed some strange clouds, so made them part of the image....
Then another shot making them the subject of the picture...
And finally the view from the triangulation point looking towards Andover.
All shots in 870nm IR, the resulting mono RAW files were enhanced and toned with Topaz Adjust.

I know what you mean about psychedelic - although the tones from the infrared capture, the ancient location and the ultra-wide viewpoint is intended to be more 'dreamlike'. That was the aim anyway! Good job they aren't in colour really :)

You all know how much I love ruins. I visited this one last year, so it was time to re-visit to see what has changed. The stinging nettles can get you right through thick trousers - that certainly hasn't changed...
First two are three or four fisheye shots stitched in Kolor Autopano Pro.
Second two are (unusually for me) single fisheye images.
All toned in Topaz Adjust.

I'm constantly annoyed by the way 500px only shows square thumbnails - it is particularly pointless for panoramas.
However, this one works since you can see the whole composition in the thumbnail - up to 'Popular' in 12 minutes :)

Somebody asked me to provide some square images. Most of mine are sort of frame-shaped, but I've sometimes tried a square crop. A quick search of old images revealed a few, of which I particularly like this one...
