Hi,
Your silver K-3iii looks drill.
I bought the K-3 Prestige Edition that came with a black Faux leather strap, the battery grip and a beautiful gunmetal paint job.
I still have it all these years later. There were only 2000 released and I understand only 100 came to the UK.
It is a fine camera and the results are very satisfying. Good luck with yours.

Well, I have been Pentax for many years, going back to the film days with the ME Super and the Z1-p. I went to Oly for a while when the First Pentax digitals arrived, which I did not care for. When the K10D arrived, I returned and worked through the K20, K7, K5 and finally the K-3, which I still use. I longed for Pentax to build a FF digital and when the K-1 arrived I bought that too. I had several amazing Pentax FF lenses, so the K-1 was perfect. I cannot fault it on any level or feature, but sadly I am old and my bones could not stand the weight, especially with the battery grip and the very heavy 24-70 f/2.8 attached. I also owned the RICOH GXR modular camera for street photography, but at only 12mp it was lacking for cropping and printing at A3, so I sold it and bought the Fuji X-T4 and the 16-80 f/4 lens.
Well, I was so impressed with this camera, for image quality, the EVF information and the floppy screen as well as the lightness and compact lenses that I decided to sell the K-1. This was a very hard decision and I agonised over it for weeks, but the weight was the killer factor for me. I have kept the K-3 with its battery grip, but really it is not used much any more.
I print many of my photos at A3 for exhibitions and club competitions ant the 26mp images from the T4 allow cropping and very high image quality. I can see the time coming when I will eventually sell most of my Pentax kit and use the money to increase my Fuji lens stock. I will keep the K-3 and the 100mm Macro as well as my 50mm f/1.7 until I can replace them with Fuji equivalents.
Bear in mind that in order to print a full resolution image at 360ppi (my Epson's Native resolution) I need to print at A2, or resize the TIFF to print at A3, throwing away the pixels from the K-1. So for me at least, the Fuji is the better option. I now have the 16mm and 27mm f/2.8, the Samyang 8mm fisheye and the 70-300 f/4-5.6 so my stock is growing.

The extra bit depth gives smoother gradients in colour changes, so the A3 or A2 print will look so much better than your jpeg printed to this size. The amount of fine adjustments is self evident once you learn how to best use your editing software.

I inherited my Father's SV with some M42 lenses. Still have this with the Super Takumar 55mm f/1.8 and its black leather ever ready case.

Yes indeed they can. I have the SMC Pentax-FA 50mm f/1.7 and it performs well on my Pentax K-3 and the K-1. You may get a small amount of vignetting in the corners on full aperture, but easily corrected in software. My 50mm is autofocus of course and that makes a difference to the speed of use. You should, as others have said, run some tests before using them for a job.

They may love the brand but still feel it is no longer in line with current needs. No move towards mirrorless may be limiting sales.

This was captured in my garden, hand held. It is a common house fly feeding on nectar from a flower head of a Pyracantha bush. The shutter speed was actually 1/100th second.:)

OK thanks. I noticed when I downloaded and extracted the 1.3 firmware it has the same filename as the 1.4 = fwdc228b.bin. However the 1.3 was 8570kb dated 14/09/2016 16:08 and the 1.4 was 8572kb dated 28/10/2016 12:30. I was a little cautious about the same filename, but as the dates and sizes are different, it must be a different file.
There seems to be a few issues reported, but they seem to be with non Pentax lenses. All of my lenses are Pentax A (some are film lenses and manual focus), so I should be OK.

This update does not yet appear on the Pentax UK website. Are the European K-1's different? Can the American version be used or is there a language (spelling) issue? I think I will wait for the update to appear on the UK website before proceeding.

If you have the shake cleaner option switched so that it shakes the sensor when you switch on and off, the camera has probably dealt with the dust spot on its own. I would not suggest you resort to cleaning the sensor, this may just add rubbish inside the camera. The Pentax sensor cleaning routine is pretty good at dealing with the occasional problem. Be careful though of such contaminants as pollen, as this can be sticky and hard to shake off. ---------- Post added 12-16-14 at 12:33 PM ----------
Also, I forgot to mention that there is an option in the Menu called 'Dust Alert' (spanner 4) which takes a shot of the sensor and shows the position of any dust spots. It displays on the rear screen after processing the data. This should show any problems and you can then use the shake routing cleaner to deal with it.

The colour saturation is a bit on the high side in this image. I have reduced this on the later version of the image on Flickr. I use this lens as my every day walkabout lens as it has such a useful zoom range. It is a bit restricted on the APS-C K-3 at the wide end. I used to use it on my Z1-p film body where it is a true 28mm.

I have the Prestige edition and I am sure the software is the same for all models. It's just that the Gun Metal finish is so cool, one would like to think it was special on the inside too.

What size digital images are you accepting? i.e. 1050x1400 in sRGB, or can they be full size jpegs in AdobeRGB colour space?

I have found that the Sigma 17-70 f/2.8 - 4.5 zoom give excellent results on my K-5. But the 2.8 disappears as soon one moves the zoom ring!
Also the Sigma EX 10-20 f/4-5.6 is a stunning lens. Although it is not available new any more the Sigma 100-300 f/4 performs very well on the K-5 even with the 1.4x tc. If you can find any of these in mint condition s/h you will not be disappointed.
Another lens worth looking out for s/h is the 70-210 f/4 one touch manual focus zoom. If you use 'catch in focus' you can hold down the shutter release and twist the zoom/focus ring. As soon as focus is confirmed the shutter fires. This is a very sharp lens with excellent contrast.
PS - I might be listed as a junior member, but I have been involved with photography for over 50 years! smile.

It may well be something to do with the camera warming up, but I have not used the movie option yet. I was taking photos outdoors in reasonably cool temperatures of around 3 to 8 degrees C, so what would happen in the heat of summer if it is this? I am going to do some controlled experiments with a spirit level and the camera on a tripod to try to get to the bottom of this and will report back later. Thanks.

Sound advice, thanks.
I will contact them on Monday and see what they are prepared to do. I will also speak to SRS Microsystems, who supplied the camera, to see if I can get support from them too.
I am basically OK with Pentax, having had many of thier cameras in the past, both film and digital, but this is getting silly. As you say, I have a load of Pentax gear, lenses, flashes (2) and extension tubes etc. so jumping ship would not be cheap.
I am on firmware 1.11.

Hi,
I sent my K-5 back to have the electronic horizon re-calibrated. it was reading about 3 degrees of tilt when the camera was really level. It came back about a week or so ago, just in time for a trip to the English Lake District, apparently fixed. I checked it and it seemed to be OK. Just one day of filming and it has gone back to where it was! Is this something to do with the floating sensor/shake reduction? What is the point of having this feature if it gives a wrong reading?
I have come to the sad conclusion that this is the best specified but the worst made Pentax I have ever owned. My one has a very loose and wobbly lens release button, still attached, but for how long?
I really feel like trading the whole lot in for a Nikon, but it would cost me a packet and I really do not like the idea os spending so much cash at the moment.
I suppose I should take the view that the electronic horizon is a toy not to be used in real life and just get on with it, but it is frustrating that it does not work properly. Is there any point in sending it back yet again (this will be the fourth time).
History:
1. Oily sensor - camera replaced.
2. Failed pop up flash - mother board replaced.
3. Wonky electronic horizon - fixed but not fixed.
What would you do? :(

I already own a Pentax full frame slr. It is the Z1-P of course. I just need to fill it up with Fugi transparency film. It works a treat, great shallow depth of field and wonderful out of focus transitions.
Just add a decent scanner and I'm in business.....for a lot less money too of course.
I know it's not quite the same as a dslr, but a reasonable compromise whilst waiting.
