Here's a new YouTube posting (from Smarter Every Day) that I think many film photographers (and a few digital photographers who have used film media in the past) will be interested in. This is part 1 of a 3 part installment (parts 2 and 3 to follow), and covers the manufacture of Kodak's ESTAR base which is used in some Kodak products as well as serving as a base for other manufacturing processes elsewhere. It shows an amazing process from start to finish and showcases the technology Kodak has perfected. The next part will cover film coating processes and the last, packaging. A long video, it also credits its creators for the detail they gave the entire process. (disclaimer: no relation to the producers or YouTube - just a Pentaxian who came across a great tid-bit). We had a very good early ice season in late November this year. Miles of top notch ice on a different body of water from that other photo. I had a few days off work after Thanksgiving and logged over 60 miles on it.
A couple of years ago we had a late October and early November early season that was also really good. Then it melted away and refroze for more good ice in December.

Thanks for your input. I think I will be looking for a mint 18-135 and if it doesn't fill my needs then I can always sell it without taking a big hit.

I spent hundreds of hours and about $3000 last summer building a brick pizza oven in my back yard. This year the funds go to a K-3iii.

I bought the lens to have a WR wide angle zoom for a trip to London, not wanting to take my Sigma 17-50 which of course was not sealed. I quickly saw how much better this lens was and got rid of the Sigma soon after. I don't miss the 17-19 or 41-50 of the Sigma at all. The most interesting bit of print in that article, for me is this line: "Based on this concept, we’re adding a wide range of advanced PENTAX technologies. Our goal is to develop a camera that our users will say is the best PENTAX APS-C-format digital SLR camera ever."
Wide range. I'm really interested to see what surprises they're not talking about yet.

Well isn't that an interesting approach?
But then they make noise suppressing software, so of course they would. They use the tech they've developed commercially as a measuring tool. That's inventive to say the least.
But that doesn't change the definition of dynamic range, essentially the difference between the amount of light it takes to alter the sensor during exposure, an exposure unit of 1, compared to the brightest the light can be and still produce different values on the sensor. Once you exceed the top end of your dynamic range, all values will be the max, 255 in an 8 bit system, even though the measured light can go up to as much as 5 EV higher than the upper limit, if you consider that a camera is topping out at 15 EV, and environmental DR can be as high as 20 EV..) Noise really has nothing to do with it. One of my complaints about DxO is their bastardization of conventional terms.

That language doesn't contradict using the 26 MPx sensor in the 1800 EUR Fuji XT4.
It's important for noob buyers to understand that sensors have not made any significant progress during all the last years other than for some fringe topics.
Neither noise nor dynamic range will change in any significant way versus the current KP.
And the 26 MPx one offers already all sorts of other toys from higher FPS over video to OSPD.
On the other side "new" sensor also means expensive sensor and camera. Given the streams of tears when discussing proper pricing here I do not think a $2000+ price level for using a brandnew sensor would be loved by too many. :D
Keeping it low at $1700 to $1800 might be a good idea.
So I'd wager that pretty much any component of the camera is at least as important as the sensor used.

I'm so ready for this camera. gimme. take my money already. ---------- Post added 07-16-20 at 10:10 AM ---------- my mind is jumping to conclusions...
maybe, Pentax foresaw the need to implement the K-New tech in a Full-Frame body, but it would take them too long to produce/manufacture.
so maybe the new circuit board in the K-1 II (and upgraded K-1 I), along with the accelerator unit cameras, will allow for a firmware update to access the K-New tech.
It just seems odd to me for them to discuss the K-1 II circuit board upgrade and imply that they did that with the intention to supply a consumer with a longer life-span camera, but really the mark II model was released only a short while after the K-1 I, with the upgrade option only available for a period of time...
This seems to me that they intend to tap into that new circuit board/accelerator unit more - and that these new advances will be available for the K-1 I (upgraded) & II before the release of the K-1 III.

It was a great place to be. Hospitality was especially excellent when I stayed at Fujikawaguchiko. I hope things have settled down by the end of next year, as my friends and I are planning another trip.

Interesting catch!
A little extreme manipulation and...
I'm seeing a Pentax MG?? Definitey a winder to the shooter's left of the prism, and judging from how the silver binding at the bottom is wider at the front and narrower along the back.
