Pentax compatibility w/ Zhiyun

Hey everyone, hopefully quick question.

Does anyone have any experience with any of the the Zhiyun crane stabilizers, and the Pentax k1?

I figure we have an amazing camera for night work, and the new cranes have a feature to assist in moving timelapses... I'd love to combine the two. I'm thinking the Zhiyun company is my best bet, but it just occurred to me. Nobody supports us, besides weird niche 3rd party people. So, my question above.

Thanks!

Pentax k1 Shutter speed creeping issue.

Howdy!

So, the past few weddings I've shot with my k1, a very peculiar thing has been happening. While in manual or TAV mode, I keep my shutter controlled by the dial next to my thumb. As I'm taking photos in succession, I'll notice as they get progressively darker or grainier, more often when doing pretty active shoots.

For example, during a first dance (indoors, where I'd really like to keep my shutter around 1/125 to 1/80th) my first photos will be where I placed it, and within 3 or 4 photos later it'll have jumped up to 1/320 or 1/400... which is totally unnecessary. In extreme cases that I won't be looking at my lcd screen afterwards, I'll see it jump up to well over 1/1000ths of a second. During down times at the event, I'll try to replicate the possiblities. For instance, maybe I'm rubbing the dial with my face somehow, or as it's slung over my shoulder, its rotating on my back... No matter what I try, I can't get it to creep upwards like that. I've kept the camera in good condition over the past year, the buttons still have their respective amount of resistance! I've also updated the firmware to the most recent.

This has really only started happening in the past few months.

Has anyone had any issue remotely similar?

Separate multiple exposure, raw therapee?

Hey everyone, question.

Recently I was taking some portraits, and decided to get a little wacky and do a few multi-exposures. They came out fun.

However! I forgot to take the switch back to regular mode, and a few minutes later when taking real photos again I was being too confident, and didn't look at my lcd to check basic things. Thus, didn't realize that I was still taking multis, which was wrong for this specific shot.

Does anyone know if there's a program (maybe raw therapee) or method to separate back out the shots?

They were taken on the K1, as DNG files...

Question and long-winded situation.

Played with a pixel shift shot I took in Yosemite using rawtherapee... absolutely loved the result. Will use it more.
However, I exported as a 16bitTIFF and brought it into lightroom to print. Colors came out wacky and wrong, so I printed a dng file from lightroom. Colors came out correct. So then, I brought that same tiff into photoshop (by the way, spyder calibrated monitor, icc profile set to the paper i use, all printer color adjustment is disabled, told lightroom/photoshop respectively to handle colors) which yielded much greater results... but still wrong. Also made test prints using the different perceptual/relative/absolute rendering intents. Perceptual/relative were very close in results, suprisingly.

When exporting your rawtherapee tiff file, do I need to set the color space in that program? Or any other settings that you need to adjust for a more accurate print from lightroom/PS?

Total newb at this software...

(also, condensed jpeg of the rawtherapee/pixel shift file attached)

This is clearly a fantastic program. I downloaded it (and the film simulations posted earlier in this thread), and have been playing with it a bit - but I'm so lost.

As a lightroom user mostly, I have a pretty decent understanding of what most the terms mean, (excluding wavelets. Completely lost on that) and can basically eyeball the differences as you move sliders. But overall, I just don't get it. I have a cross country (and cross europe) trip coming up that I'm hoping to actually use pixel shift feature more on - which basically means I need to learn this program. Can you guys recommend a tutorial or page that kind of clarifies things fairly well? I saw there's a wiki page for it...

Also, I have no idea how to use the film simulation bits. I pointed the halcut to the directory, and have them as options in the color tab. However, clicking different simulations, doesn't change the image at all. Am I missing something?

I love this thread.

I never use the pixel shift feature, mostly because I'm not that critical/ file size/ forget it's in there/ mostly shoot weddings.

I know it's imperceivable on a cellphone/ most screens, but is there an actual measurable boost in sharpness/ clarity/ texture? Or is it more for pushing colours further in post?

K1 flash modes

Hey everyone, hopefully a quick question - I can't find the answer via google, or in the manual. (I'm sure I'm just looking right past it)

So, every pentax dslr I've owned, has had several creative flash modes that work with many flashes. Slow sync, rear curtain, etc... With the k1, since they removed the pop up, I don't see the direct access to the flash settings.

Any idea where it's hidden on the thing?

I don't use them too often, but the other day at a wedding I had taken all the photos I needed to, and felt it was time to play/get creative with those modes. Low and behold... got nada. Any suggestions?

Photo book suggestions

Again, I appreciate all the suggestions.

Fortunately, my layout would probably just be full page pictures (no across the binding), and minimal at best text. Honestly, print quality is my main concern. Like the fellow above said, some images were blue tinted, etc. I'm trying to avoid that, or drops in resolution. I mean, with the k1 we get ridiculous resolution, and I'd just be wary of trying something like Walgreens/Shutterfly and just not living up to the potential.

I probably won't re-sell any books, but I definitely plan on keeping them around for quite a while...

Appreciate it so far. I've been looking into blurb, but the internet seems to think the quality varies quite a bit book to book.

I've made books in the past for other people using adoramapix, (since their individual photo print quality seems similar to what I can print at home) but unfortunately I always just had their products shipped direct to customers/families (I know, that's awful), and haven't actually seen with my own eyes the quality.

Hey everyone!

It's about time I turn past trips/adventures into something tangible. Over the past year I've been to California, Tennessee, Colorado, Canada, and recently Cuba - and while biased, think I've taken a few quality photos in each place. I've been googling reviews/suggestions, but it always leads to websites that are about as valuable as snapsort...

Do you guys have first hand experience with any DIY photo book companies? Any that stand out, or have appropriate quality without breaking the bank?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I'm on a phone tight now, and unable to read the manual/pdf.

The option is greyed out, and I recall there being a different option that affects it's ability.

Any ideas?

Simultaneous shutter fire, Pentax Q?

Howdy all!

Question for those of you with q knowledge. If you had a 2 Pentax Q's set to trip via remote - could you use the same remote to fire both cameras simultaneously?

Both cameras would be within a foot of each other.

Also, I just assumed it has a remote feature. Is that true?

Yeah, I think the points contained within the crop area are definitely more full, and cover at least as wide as the k5 did. However, the outer 1/3rd of the camera having none at all is a bit of a bummer (outside the crop zone). I'll deal though. Focus and recompose.

On the other hand, the new life it's brought to my older lenses make it all totally worth it.

Tomorrow will be my first wedding using the new body. Looking forward to giving it a full test in a real world/professional situation!

Pixel Shift: bigger files? B&W results?
Posted By dflorez

Hey everyone. I'm still working out the kinks/features of the k1, among them the pixel shift.

Looking at files from it, I'm seeing a massive (3.5x) increase in filesize, but no huge difference in imagery via lightroom. I assume having the color information on every pixel (among other moire/aliasing benefits) is that you can push/pull the file a bit further? Please correct me if there's a more important benefit. With all the hype surrounding it, I'm excited to use this feature to full benefit.

But also I noticed some of you have written that adobe isn't supporting it, via lightroom. How so? Is my lightroom file different from it should be on a pixelshift image?

Can you elaborate on this? I've always wanted a dedicated mode for multi exposure (glad to see that the k1 has it in the info screen, but still) so I could use it more often without digging through menus... (and I've never understood how to really use the user modes)

Thank ya much!

Got ya.

Right after typing that original post I noticed that edial programming has multiple tabs. Very nice.

And ten 4 on the first part. I suppose manual focus will come into play for those times too. Thank ya.

K1 Arrived! Questions.

Might be a good place for everyone with similar questions.

So! It just arrived. I'm going through the manual/adjusting it to work more closely to my K5iis (near perfect camera for me. Stoked and terrified about this new sensor though), and have come into a few issues/questions/things?

2 questions so far.

1. Can autofocus work outside the crop zone? It generally frame shots heavy to one side or the other. Relative to the k5, it seems like the k5 has more focus ability (despite fewer points) if you're in using rules o' thirds, or similar.

2. Unfortunately, Nikon was my intro to the digital slr world. So, ever since I've always used the dial on the lens side for aperture, and the thumb for shutter speed. I've adjusted it already for aperture/shutter priority, but it doesn't seem to have the option to switch/configure it for manual exposure. Can anyone confirm otherwise?
