i'd try the bag method and use a remote for bulb exposure. i'd also think about which way the wind is heading so that you're not in front of the smoke

i think it ran,but i didn't use it extensively. i understand not wanting to pay money to upgrade. i only reluctantly upgraded to lr5 because it was free with a camera.

The the full frame lenses should have a larger physical aperture than APS-C DA lenses, so you should see diffraction later at a higher f-stop. Compound that with larger pixels and you should be able to go higher.
People knock dxomark, but I like using their tool to see the sharpness at different apertures. You can typically see when diffraction affects the lens/sensor combo.

I agree with the sentiment that a DSLR is not for everyone. i've purchased DSLRS for two people who ended up not using it. I think you're looking for something with good image quality and DSLR-like controls so that if she ever wants to transition into a DSLR, it won't be intimidating. By DSLR controls, I'm thinking of a thumbwheel equivalent to change aperture/shutter speed. Personally, I'm liking 1-inch sensors or m4/3rds for their smaller size, but the price is higher and I don't think that the RX100 has a good interface. It has a thumbwheel that rotates tangential to the body, not into the body. The best thing that comes to my mind is the Pentax Q for its controls, but it has a 1/1.7" sensor. The Fuji X30 has nice controls too, but it's also a smaller sensor. You might be better off waiting for the price of a used LX100 to drop, but personally, I hate the power zoom. You can either try to get something that won't drop too dramatically in price (if you want to sell it/trade it if she doesn't use it), or pick up something used so that it has already depreciated a bit and you won't be too disappointed if she doesn't use it.

Where do you store your photos? Hard drive
How do you sort them? Folder for year (2016), Folder starting with a number then a name (01-Forum pictures)
EDIT: Do you add lens information into Exif (in case of manual lenses)? Nope
How do you process them? Lightroom, sometimes Dxo Filmpack. Starting to appreciate different algorithms and thinking about trying Nik
Do you save both RAW and the processed JPG? Yes, see below
How do you backup? Hard drive is backed up via Carbon copy cloner (Mac). Exported JPGs are saved to a Dropbox folder. JPGs are my "prints" to share and save. If my hard drive dies, there's a back up. If it gets stolen or my house burns down, there's JPGs on a cloud server.
Do you arrange prints? Not usually
(I have to say that the amount of photos (especially unprocessed photos) in my computer is growing (and chaos is growing in direct proportion :lol:) and so far I did not find any proper system. That's why I'm asking for your tips and hints.) Local storage is relatively cheap, but file sizes are bigger nowadays too. You should practice deleting files that you know you won't go back to look at. But what if some day you might? You don't need 50 burst shots of the same subject.

I hope you're okay! Sounds like you were cushioned by snow. I fell this past summer on the breakers next to the ocean. Slipped on some wet moss, cradled my camera on the fall, but my leg caught a jagged edge on a rock. I ended up with three stitches. First stitches everrrr. Camera and lens were okay though, no lens misalignments, all of the camera functions as normal. Yay for Pentax ruggedness

i made this mistake recently: tried to buy a d50 to use with older manual lenses. focusing is ok, there's a little green dot to confirm focusing. metering is an issue though. there's no stop down metering or DoF preview. so in order to meter correctly, you need to take test shots, which is a bit of a hassle. i'm pretty sure the d40 doesn't have stop down metering either

i don't think anything you've said is incorrect. it took me a while to just drop the idea of "35mm equivalence". It's only useful if you're comparing different formats. Get used to one format and the field of view for that format.
that's correct, but i don't know if i'd use the word "equivalence". the image circle should project on the sensor to cover the full frame, but if used in crop mode, you're cropping to keep only the center of the picture. the field of view that you're getting in the cropped picture will be more narrow.

Coolest Christmas display I've seen: made from recycled bottles! There was another from clear plastic plates, hung next to a window, but I didn't get a chance to take a picture. And of course, an obligatory tree picture. All taken from the local botanical garden.

you should check the discharge voltage of the minolta flash before you try it! you'd have to hook up the leads of multimeter to it, trigger the flash, and see the voltage that's discharged. i think some older flashes are ~150v! there are discussions about safe voltages, but i don't think pentax has ever said what should be ok. i think ~5-7v is ok, if i remember correctly. please don't quote me on the numbers

the pentax 200fg only flashes straight on. you can't turn it vertically to bounce off a ceiling or rotate the head to bounce behind you. not many advantages, in my opinion, to the pop up flash.
actually, i'd consider the Yongnuo 560-iii. in my opinion, these are the similarities and trade offs:
similar: bounce (tilt up and down) and swivel (left and right to shoot behind you). don't communicate with pentax cameras (not p-ttl)
560-iii advantage: probably faster recycle time. finer control of flash down to 1/128th power. built in radio to trigger other Yongnuo flashes. built in optical trigger (this flash can act as a slave and be triggered by another flash), auto zoom head (adjust the flash according to your lens. wide angle or long range.)
older film flash advantage: auto thyristor circuit. (pretty much the only advantage, but it's nice to have. basically a built in mode without communicating with the camera. you plug in ISO and aperture on the flash and it'll shut itself off at the "proper" exposure.) i guess there's also a price advantage, but i don't know if it's worth it.

used and online is great. i'd look for one that's been CLA'd recently (cleaned, lubricated, adjusted). sometimes the light seals are replaced as well. if it's an untested camera, your shutter speeds might be slightly off, the light seals could leak light into your undeveloped film (or are gummied), the battery compartment might not be cleaned (i.e. leaked battery in the past), etc etc.

advantages are noise and limited dof at the cost of weight and... money. for wildlife/action photography you can probably use a higher iso for higher shutter speeds. i don't know if there is an advantage in portraits. my brother is adamant that he wants to upgrade his d7000 for a d800 series. but when i look at the exifs, there are some weird choices, like iso 3200/6400 outdoors and a shutter speed of 1/4000 for a posed portrait session.
i'm just echoing what others have said. a) it's your money, if you have the means then go for it. especially if you'd have to sell your DA lenses anyways if you're planning on the pentax FF. b) grass might not be greener on the other side. will you see a difference in prints, if you're printing? or just pixel peeping?
there are definitely different progressions of photographers. if you feel this is it, then jump :) there are definitely stories of people selling their ff gear for smaller kits like m4/3rds or fuji x series and feeling liberated.

i'd vote for the larger sensor size olympus. i had the original q with the 01 prime, should be one of the better lens out there. still felt like the images were closer to point and shoot than dslr. don't get me wrong, it was fun and i've seen amazing pictures from the q line. it just wasn't for me.
sounds like you're stressing interchangeable lenses and RAW development. you'd get more flexibility in both of those departments with the olympus. the only pro that i see with the q-s1 is that it's cute. and lighter. but the shapes are still very similar... they don't fold flat or become more compact unless you get pancake lenses or body cap lenses, which both systems have; the m4/3rds just has more options for pancake/body cap lenses.

My understanding is that you can use any wifi card. The card itself will create its own wifi, even if your camera isn't "compatible", as long as there's enough power to the card, which usually there is. I use the EyeFi Mobi with my K5 and K-01, even though there isn't an Eye-Fi in the menu. As long as the power is on and not turned off by power save, the wifi signal should be created. Every once in a while, I have issues with finding the wifi, but powering the camera on and off a couple of times will usually fix it.
I think that there are three major EyeFis still on the market. The older EyeFi X2 Pro, EyeFi Mobi (non-pro), EyeFi Mobi Pro. I've only used the Mobi (non-pro) so I'm basing my judgement on that. To make things a little more confusing, there are are different apps in the app stores. I've only used this on the iPhone iOS, so again, your experience might be different. The two apps in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store are EyeFi (older application) and EyeFi Mobi.
I think the main difference between the regular Mobi and the X2 Pro or Mobi Pro is that only JPGs are transferred. I'd consider the Pro models only if I wanted to transfer RAW files through wifi.
The difference between the older X2 pro card and the Mobi (and Mobi Pro) cards are how the wifi is set up. The Mobi cards come with a special... card. It's a plastic card with a code, you enter it in the EyeFi Mobi app and a wifi profile is created. I think the X2 card is more manual setup.
The two apps are slightly different as well. The older EyeFi app will download any movies or JPGs automatically. I shoot in RAW, and when I want to share an image quickly, I'll use the in camera processing to create a JPG, open the EyeFi app and the new image will show up with all of the other images in my image gallery. In the description for the EyeFi (older) app, it says that if you use the Mobi card to use the Mobi app. However, I've found that once the initial wifi profile is set up through the EyeFi Mobi app, the older app will work with the Mobi card. I personally don't like to use the Mobi app because in order to save pictures, at least in iOS, it saves the picture to the app, then you have to tell the app to save the image to your gallery. It's an extra step that I didn't like. However, if you shoot JPGs and not RAW or if you shoot RAW+JPG, I'd use the Mobi app because it allows you to preview and choose which pictures to transfer.

i don't have a k3, but i think the consensus i've seen is that it's due to the higher resolution sensor. if you view at the same dimensions as an image from a 16mp sensor, you should have similar noise. so 100% crop might not be your best friend in this situation.
