Which external microphones are folks using with their K7/K5?

I've only got a K-x which does not take an external mic but I do have a high-def video camera that does. The external mic I bought was a Rode Stereo Videomic which came with a 'dead kitten' windjammer. Please note that it's not a directional shotgun mic like the cheaper monophonic Rode Videomic but it does focus on a tighter directional sound field and is less sensitive to background sound. I've been very pleased with my purchase so far, the sound quality is much better than the camcorders built in mic and the dead kitten really does work well.

Both really. I got the camera and flash mainly for getting shots of people who may be inside or out at conferences and that type of stuff. I'll probably be using it as a fill-in at some point.

I really hope to be able to get away from the standard harsh 'in your face' flash effect you get with the pop-up one and over the lens mounted ones.

I was wondering what I could press into service as a bounce card last night and I unwrapped my dinner (a pizza) and lo and behold, there was a white textured styrofoam base underneath. Just what I needed. Serendipity or what?

Imagine a double bracket with two of these, one either side using bounce cards. Probably look pretty stupid but the results might be worth it.

Hi!

I've just taken delivery of a Sigma EF-530 DG Super for my K-x and am getting used to it. So far it seems exactly what you'd expect to get from a powerful flash mounted close to and right over the lens. Namely harsh lighting.

I intend to build a flash bracket that will be about 14/16 inches to the left of the camera and reverse the flash head and use a bounce card to try to soften the light.

The size of the flash does seem to overwhelm the smallish K-x though. I took some pics of the Pentax/Sigma combo using my old Fuji S5700 bridge camera yesterday.
