My thoughts (for what they're worth :D )...
Is it a neat idea? Yes
Would I prefer it be full frame? Yes
Would it be better fully self contained rather than the dongle cable sticking out? Yes
Would I care about switching film ISO rating on the fly? Eh, maybe? (I mean, I can't change it when I load a roll of film after all.)

nice indeed
I have abused my original K3 silver for like a decade now.
You'll be glad to hear the silver keeps really well.. and I like it especially with m lenses as these have a silver line on the front..

I've read the "pros dissing Pentax" thread and had a bit of a laugh. I shot high-end Canon for 30 years in my film days but am at a more laidback place now during semi-retirement. For the switch to DSLR, I couldn't justify the expense - particularly for good glass - that Canon entailed and went with Pentax. I am very happy with that choice despite the occasional sneer from my former Canon compatriots.

Now, my topic. During the recent Worldwide Photo Walk, I joined 40+ area photographers for a fun day of shooting followed by a group lunch and wrap-up. In that group, I saw exactly zero Pentax DSLRs - aside from my own. I found myself "justifying" my choice not to go with Canikon during good natured discussions. Not so much distain but more "why in the world would a serious photographer NOT buy Canikon??"

Are we really that sparse out in the world?

A message from Adam and the PF Moderating Team:

In recent weeks and months we have received feedback - primarily from new members, but a few established ones too - regarding unnecessarily harsh, dismissive, rude and/or aggressive responses, especially (but not only) when someone raises concerns, doubts or criticisms of the Pentax brand.

PentaxForums is a brand-specific enthusiast site, and most of us here are Pentax enthusiasts. New members with critical views of the brand have a responsibility to understand the dynamics of the community they're participating in and consider the effect of their posts, and we've updated our Welcome & Forum Rules sticky post to reflect this, with guidelines for new members. Even so, all of our members - new and old - have a responsibility to respect each other's opinions (even when we disagree), remain courteous and friendly at all times, keep an open mind, and avoid jumping to conclusions, making personal comments or name-calling (terms such as "fanboy" or "troll", for example). We each represent these forums whenever we post, and it's incumbent on us to present our community as welcoming, respectful, tolerant and helpful to all.

We might reasonably hope that our most established members in particular would take this responsibility to heart, to ensure the continued popularity and longevity of our community and the brands we all support.

When faced with a post where you feel the only option is to dismiss it or "shoot it down", please consider the wider effects of your response. If rules have been broken, report the post to a moderator using the "yellow triangle" report post feature (not by PM, please) and avoid further involvement in the discussion until a moderating decision has been made. Otherwise, please be mindful of the standards referred to above when responding.

Most of all, please strive to be friendly and respectful at all times. There is never just one way to offer (or counter) an opinion. However ill-conceived or inflammatory a post may seem, responding in kind does nothing to help our community and its reputation.

The moderating team will not hesitate to take appropriate action against members who consistently impact the forum atmosphere in a negative way.

Thank you very much for your consideration, and - as always - many thanks for your valued contribution to the forums! :)

I never thought it could be worth the price.

I read all the online tests and looked that the numbers.
I thought I already own "XYZ" lens.
My "XYZ" lens resolves "123" lines at "ABC" stop.
So I thought "my current lens is as good if I just stop it down one stop".

I WAS WRONG!

When I finally bought this lens USED on ebay it was the best zoom I owned at ALL STOPS.
It even beat or match some of my primes in it's range.

For example I have:
Super-Takumar 50mm F1.4 (8-element variant)
and
SMC Pentax-FA 43mm F1.9 Limited
and
SMC Pentax-FA 50mm F1.4
and
in the side by side test liked the zoom better (at the 50mm mark)

I have concluded:
There is no way to put into a test report any number that shows how good this lens is.
It easily beats the lenses that are supposed to be better than it when looking at real world photos (NOT TEST CHARTS)

Great lens by every means. And a great price too. Just hope these have newer/upgraded/updated/goodbatch SDMs on them. I have 2 one with SDM disabled and love both AF noise or no AF noise.
Hands down great optics and a 70-200 equivalent of FF format.

Certainly a relatively unsung great. I don't use mine much these days just due to size (and because the DA*300 is practically cemented to my K-3), but back in the day it gave me some of my favorite images.

I took advantage of that deal last month. It's funny they had been running a deal that brought the price down to $800 and change and I just couldn't swing it. It ended and for some reason i decided to check the price the next day and saw the new deal. There goes my GR iii.

Thanks for the post. Excellent price. I would replace my copy with failing SDM. But I just bought a used 60-250 last Sunday.
