Yes, I know what Lightroom can do, or at least think I do. Perhaps I should have just replied in the able-mentioned "lazy" thread; I just want something that's a bit quicker than LR and maybe could send right into a container or web portal that could be shared with others. Feel free to tell me I'm missing the obvious here, I just haven't found it LR thus far. :confused:

I probably should have mentioned I use a Mac and for local software would prefer to stick with that. As far as shooting RAW+ or using the second slot for JPG backup, there are a few reasons why I don't. I used to do most of my shooting while dog-walking which normally required multiple shots due to his pulling randomly on the leash, so I filled up the cards quickly :fedup::lol:. Now that he's gone, I haven't been using my K3 much at all, but I've got a boat-load of processing to catch up on. It's also hard to teach this old dog new tricks; I'm not sure I'm ready to develop a new workflow involving a second JPG-only card and frankly don't see the need to fill up hard drive space with duplicate JPG's. I use Lightroom as my repository and would like to review folders to find individual files to share.

My renewal is almost due, so this becomes a no-brainer. I haven't been as active here as I'd like - my four-legged assistant recently passed away and I just don't get out with my K-5 as much as in the past. Yet, this site deserves support and I will do so in his memory.

When I first got the 18-135 I tended to only use it in bad weather, which often meant poor lighting. The results were rather blah. But I was glad to have it, as going out for a walk without my camera feels incomplete. What's the point of having a WR camera if you can't enjoy using it in situations where others cannot?
I have since begun to use the 18-135 a bit more, especially when I want to travel light and the results are getting better. I also recently picked up the Tamron 28-75 f2.8. It's a great lens. All I need do is force myself not to miss the extra width and length. ;)

While this is true there is a point where the entire sub conscious feeling works against the intended design. I'm amazed when I see products advertised with what I would consider banal or downright negative circumstances. It always makes we wonder whether the advertiser is at all concerned that my feelings might make the association so negative that I would never even consider purchasing the item! I may not be the target audience (something I feel more and more) yet I'm still struck by this lack of forethought.

Another thought-provoking and cogent post Boris; I couldn't agree more. My wife (the Psychology prof) and I regularly discuss Erich Fromm's "Homo Consumens" theorem as it all to often impacts our society.:(

His name wasn't Damn List, it was Franz Liszt, well known Hungarian pianist and composer. Perhaps his most famous musical work is Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2. But did you know it is not just only one of a pair? You see, he liked No. 1, then followed up with No. 2, and ended up with 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies in all!
It's no wonder our Hunger (for lenses) causes us to wax Rhapsodic.:lol:

If we are at the end in this discussion it has been fun. I found myself agreeing with everything everyone said ;):lol:, at least at some point in time.
But to bring this back to a PentaxForums perspective, we've already got something like that iSTAR thingy - the Ricoh THETA!

Indeed.
I'm finding it interesting that we are all having such difficulty pinpointing "photographic objectivity". Perhaps it's because it is virtually(no pun intended) impossible. Do we really think we can objectively capture or document reality given our current zeal to video everything? ...The Truman Show, anyone?... Have we thought of everything necessary to ensure success in that endeavor? Do we even have the resources to accomplish this?
My takeaway from this discussion is to be constantly aware of this juxtaposition BEFORE I snap the shutter. Not entirely possible or feasible, but try I must!

Well, we do use our cameras as a kind of extension for our eyes. And, as the saying goes "the eyes are windows to the soul". Ergo it is not surprising this discussion would evolve, though I would be reluctant to say "devolve".

I stand (sit, in reality) corrected and admonished. How about an MPAA-type scale for rating the veracity of pictures? G for Generally just like what I saw, PG for Partly Got it as I saw it, etc.:lol::lol:

Absolutely true, as is which lens you choose to shoot the scene with. If i use an ultra wide I'm including elements that might not be in the picture at all with a telephoto lens. And if I use a fisheye the scene is distorted in the picture while I didn't do a thing except chose the lens. Perhaps all photography is art and we need a whole lot more sub categories of art to draw the lines.

Where to begin? It seems to me that the world does not care about how it's reality is reported or documented. Nor do flora or fauna concern themselves with any of that. Only we humans strut and fret ourselves across our self-made stage and worry ourselves to death about how well we did during our time in the spotlight. We have and perhaps will always be handicapped in our abilities to recollect, to report and to judge; indeed it defines us as human. Does this imply a disdain of discussion such as this? Not at all. I am deeply concerned and disturbed by the ways our lives are manipulated - by propaganda, by extreme consumerism (and it's henchman, advertising) and by supposed reportage. It's not so much WHAT we do, but HOW it is portrayed that govern our reactions.
In the exhibit mentioned in the article we see again and again how the blurring of art disguised as fact is most jarring. When perception is based upon deception we all suffer regardless of intent. And yet, we need to temper our scorn, matching it with the degree of deception and, yes, with an examination of original intent.
Years ago, when I was a newlywed, my wife and I moved back to where I grew up. She, however, was from a more rural community and unaccustomed to things like multiple network TV channels and news programs all day long. When I would come home from work I would often find her depressed and saddened from the TV news of the day. She eventually solved the problem by watching the news on a different channel, where sensationalism took a back seat to truer reporting. The lesson learned? All reporting is edited. All tales told are embellished. It is, again, part of being not just a social creature, but one with linguistic abilities.
So, these doctored pictures can only be called Art. We shouldn't let that bring down the entire field of photography; let's just try to categorize these works in their proper context.

But it's often the case that I plan on 2 or 3 lenses for my trek, and come home with them still safely tucked away in the pack.
