I picked up a GR ll yesterday after selling my beloved X100. Really liking the GR so far and a real change of pace from the X100.

As a practical matter the mirrorless body with large lens vs. mirrorbox body with short lens argument hasn't changed consumer behavior in the APSc or FF markets, and it probably won't in the crop MF space either. People buy shiny things and ignore their obvious shortcomings as a matter of self-justification.
I've said many times Pentax is (or is forced to be) an alternative to CaNikon, not a true competitor with them. I've thought for about a year Fuji is Pentax's real competition, and here we have an insurgent's strike, planned and developed while Pentax was busily bringing the (probable) final FF dSLR line in the industry. Ahem.
Was K-1 too little, too late - or does Ricoh have something bigger around the corner? My gut tells me there is a very large, very clever surprise coming from Pentax, and I don't mean a quick release battery grip

Deadwolf, that is an amazing series of images. Well-chosen landscapes, great exposures and framing, very nice processing, absolutely no BS. Just had to say it. :)

The OM-2 was first with OTF implementation in a production camera with previous patents awarded to Canon and Minolta. But the OM-2 also has 2 CDS cels in the viewfinder when in manual mode as well as auto mode prior to the shutter firing. The LX used only the rear looking cel for manual and auto. The OM-4 did away with the viewfinder cels and relied on the single rear looking cel like the LX.
Correction regarding the OM-2's 30 minute duration as it can only auto aperture up to 19 minutes with a lot of caveats associated to it. A more thorough explanation at -> http://www.zuiko.com/index_032.htm if you're interested.
When I stated that the LX is the only camera - past or present by any brand, that can aperture priority autoexpose a scene for as long as it takes or the batteries die I mean that you can do hours long autoexposures - repeatedly and reliably. I have conducted tests with both of my LX's up to about 8 hours long so far. Although the LX manual gives a range of 1/2000 to 125 seconds, Pentax does not actually cutoff the exposure time unlike Canon cameras that are fixed at 30 seconds, OM-4 at about 4 minutes and all others at varying times that may not be repeatable.
A few examples.
Kodak Gold 100 with about a 15 minute autoexposure.
Kodak Ektar 100 with about a 45 minute autoexposure of the Hoover Dam at night
Kodak Gold 100. I tripped the shutter about 9pm and checking hourly, I noticed the autoexposure finally ended after 3am. |

Went to the Armin Van Buuren Intense Tour in Vancouver last night. Took my GR since it could fit in my pocket and I could snap shots in between the fist pumping and jumping.
Amazing concert if you're into that kind of music. |

One from work - X-Pro1 and 35
A gent was on with the XT-1 the other day who let me have a wee play. I might have to have a rearrangement of kit to get this in. Loved it. |
