I feel like Fujifilm has really copied what made Pentax successful earlier on and just done a better job of it, with more resources available. They are to some extent eating Pentax's APS-C lunch as well.
Pentax just decided to not compete with anyone, while we remain loyal and buy Pentax gear thats all good.... I can't honestly recommend Pentax to new users anymore. I love my cameras and lenses a lot, but unless they have a stash of k-mount lenses.... That said I met another Pentaxian in the office the other day and while he still has his APS-C stuff, he found a Fujifilm GFX camera cheap second hand and has moved into medium format with an adaptor and some olf film 645 lenses, which work fine for him.

I assume its the current PLM WR version. Its been rock solid for me as my travel zoom along with the 16-85, which I prefer a lot more over the 18-135.
You'll also get good use of the 15mm in Tassie I reckon. Plenty of stunning scenery.
As for wide angles, my DA*11-18 has arrived today! Can't complain when the lens was out of stock a week ago during the sale and came in stock Friday and arrived today. Hoping it will go nicely with the 16-85 and 55-300 for my travel kit. The sigma 8-16 was just not used because I didn't like the photos it produced.

I ordered the DA*11-18 and it was on backorder. I did the same with the DFA150-450 a few years ago. The date they provide for availability was almost spot on, I think it was a day out. So they are saying 23rd Septemeber for the DA*11-18, I'd be surprised if I didn't have it within a week of that date.

Well the 645 lenses skyrocketed when the 645D came out. I know a few people who tried to sell an old lens, wasn't happy with the price and are keeping it to sell at inflated prices when a FF camera is released :-) Unless a significant number of decent lenses are introduced at launch, second hand FA glass especially will be worth significantly more.

Except when you print these photos in magazine most people can't tell the difference between FF and APS-C. Depending on conditions and subject, you might be able to tell, but in a majority of cases most people can't tell the difference in a true blind test.

There is no guarantee any FF camera would have screwdrive, or that these 20-30 yr old lenses will be any good. Besides for a non pentaxian, they won't be able to afford any old pentax FA glass. It will skyrocket on the second hand market. Also for Pentax to make money they will want to sell new FF lenses. All these people holding onto old lenses doesn't help. They want and need to sell new lenses to make money. Thats why many manufacturers have changed their lens mount. Its also why the FF debate is so passionate in Pentax land, because no other manufacturer provides a FF camera to use old lenses on by default (obviously you can with adaptors).

There is sense in this because the japanese economy is in recession. So if they don't sell enough k-mount cameras then it may put them off for a while. The main issue I see if that a new FF camera regardless of what people say is lacking in a comparable lens lineup to any other manufacturer. Ricoh can't rely on people having a collection of lenses. So they would need to have a program of new FF lenses IMO. Whether they can manage that is the issue and thus the thoughts that the 2 new telephoto zooms will in someway point towards a FF release.

I kind of agree here. People for a long time thought Pentax would make the first sub $2k FF camera. There has also been the thought that Pentax lenses are cheaper overall as well.
Anything over $3k for this lens is probably too much. If sigma can make a 150-500 zoom and sell it for $1k, then I can't see how Pentax can't make a 560 f5.6 for say under $2.5k
Of course it will probably be $3800 as rumoured which means I'll look at the bigma instead. Still the lens is using nothing exotic, is longer to bring the price down as well.
The price of the DA560 is what i most want to learn from Photokina.

While I agree the monitors and upscaling can make the image look worse, I personally don't think that wopuld affect voting. I don't base of the actual IQ of the image, but the artistic value of the image. Just because its razor sharp with len-x and body-y does not make it a good photo.
I've seen way too many technically well taken macros of bugs, but very few of them, are great photos.. Same for flowers, although a lot of the flower photos are just snapshots IMO.
I doubt photos would get a no vote due to upscaling or how it looks on a monitor. You may have calibrated your setup on a 27"+ monitor, but it means nothing to people voting on an uncalibrated 22" monitor.

Now i have my O-GPS1 I can tell you now, its far quicker to get a location and more accurate than any other GPS in a phone or pocket device that I've owned.
Yes more expensive, but it seems worth it so far.
And now I'm even more impressed. Just back from the zoo. I used it there, just to see the exif data later. Anyway lightroom displays the coordinates. I click on the arrow next to it and it opens google maps and displays a green arrow where the shot was taken.
The green arrow is extremely accurate.... This will work wonders for bushwalking etc

The issue is the device has to support USB Host. ipads and iphones definately don't, i think that samsung phone is the only phone that does and some android tablets do also.
Its the same reason, why you can't connect a USB HDD to any thing and read the drive.

Yes but how many people complain about the cost of the camera and they don't want GPS etc etc. I agree it would be nice to have it built in, but when they are trying to sell more cameras, features and price can be sensitive.

At least one person in the UK has one. But I've been told early August for Australia and the US shops i buy from online don't have them yet either.

Didn't Zeiss design that for an Arab sheikh or prince or someone like that and he mounted it on a jeep.
Anyway its clear we need to find an Arab sheikh to want more pentax lenses ;-)

if there was a significant savings on the kit the Da 18-135 would be a no brainer....
I wouldn't rush to get it, but personally i'd find the FA*28-70 too narrow on an APS-C sensor camera.
I'm all about IQ also, so if the DA 18-135 doesn't cut it at least as good in IQ as the DA12-24 and the DA16-45 then I'll sell it. I have a FA50, FA77 and DFA100 to sort of cover the range.....

I got the DA 18-135 kit purely because its weather sealed and has a decent range. The current zooms i'm using is the DA16-45 and the DA12-24. I only have DA* and FA* primes and limited primes. I've been out shooting with it today and it seems to be a decent performer. Everything though was at f8.
There is a use for it. A general travel/walkaround lens. Admittedly more expensive than i'd like, the IQ of the DA18-55 WR was ok, the DA18-135 seems better and more like the DA12-24 and the DA16-45.

Just ordered the K-5/DA18-135 kit from DCW today. It was in stock, in fact several places had the camera in stock.
Will be interesting to see if its a kit or two boxes. I don't really care myself.
While i had no gripes with my K20D, its clear the K-5 is much better in many ways ;-)
