As Jonas said, DNG is used widely. To learn more about the motivations not to use camera proprietary file formats visit OpenRAW | Digital Image Preservation Through Open Documentation.

...and 'CS' stands for 'Adobe Creative Suite'.

Hi Adam,

Here's my suggestion:

This list was originally put together and maintained by John "racehorse in the desert" Powers at the Pentax SLR forum at www.dpreview.com. It contains links to the most interesting discussion threads at this forum, and some references to information elsewhere in the Internet. The list was well recognized by the members as a means to quickly look up Pentax SLR specific information. It works similar to a FAQ, but the fact it references discussion threads, sometimes several to one topic or question, it is a more comprehensive source of information than a FAQ list, that usually gives one answer and viewpoint to each question.

At the end of 2006 the community of the dpreview Pentax SLR forum underwent some rapid changes and the list was little maintained, but kept available. Today, with FAQ and sticky threads here at pentaxforums.com the Racehorse List isn't as important any more, but I think there is a value to continue a reference list for Pentax SLR information. Such a list could point to several sites on the Internet: this forum, the one over at dpreview.com, and other sites in various countries with Pentax forums, such as DigitalPhotoNetz.de.

To continue to maintain the list I suggested the use of a social bookmarking site, such as del.icio.us because they offer browser plug-in tools that make adding a reference quick and easy. Also, the references can be organized into topics there. Several people could join into maintaining the reference collection.

Thanks,

Holger

Now Beth, we just know what the cool toys are, don't we: I have a fancy hot shoe on my Holga too! Have not yet used it though. Hmm....I'll give it a try, should be fun.

OK, thanks for doing this! Then I can phase out the other domain. Just waiting for the last classifieds to expire.

The reason I suggested del.icio.us is the ease of adding references. Without a committed contributor like John Powers has been with his Racehorse list we need a super easy way to maintain this thing. del.ico.us has browser plug-ins (digg and others probably too, don't know) that make adding a reference a two-click task. Also, such a reference collection can cover more than just this forum. That's especially interesting because of dpreview's limited and often non-functional search feature (which is why John started the list). There are of course other reasons for the success of social bookmarking sites.

Anyway, with you capturing the existing list it is up the community to continue it, but we've done our part in not losing the history.

BTW: Does anybody know about John "Racehorse in the desert" Powers' whereabouts? I haven't seen him around dpreview for months and his site is down. I hope he's alright.

Thanks, Mo! I'm still shooting with Pentax, but film.

I'll shoot you a PM regarding the Racehorse list. But if any of the members here could continue the effort, maybe in coordination with Jens, that would be terrific.

EDIT:
As it is now the Racehorse list is simply a link list. The best move would be to go from one link to another and add it as reference to the concerning FAQ entry (creating one if needed). The main value of the Racehorse list is that it does not just answer a question (and this answer may be wrong, or incomplete because it comes from a single person), but it points to discussions that bring together several viewpoints and opinions. Doing this takes more time than I'd like to contribute. The next best thing would be to dump the entire list into a (sticky?) posting here. That may be as simple as a quick cut&paste job (if the bulletin software supports HTML input). Let's do that if nobody does the individual thing. OK, that covers the existing list. To continue to add to the list I think del.icio.us would make that a lot easier. More than one person could do this.

Hi Tracy, Mo,

If it was possible to move the Racehorse list from my domain (pentaxuser.org) to here (pentaxforums.org) I would appreciate it. Jens and I talked about how to continue the Racehorse list. I suggested to use del.icio.us and he liked the idea, but I no longer monitor dpreview/Pentax SLR so I don't know whether he did in fact made an effort here.

Sadly, I've gone to the dark side and no longer use digital Pentax gear and also rarely stop by here, so if someone could take this over that would be great. I would like to let pentaxuser.org die. pentaxforums.com is the better place!

Many thanks!

K10D photo indexing, mixing cards from different cameras?

The camera has an internal counter but if the highest image number on the card is higher than the internal counter that higher number is used for the internal counter and as start for subsequent numbering (that's how I understand it).

I always format the card after placing it into the camera. With that I never had a problem with sharing cards in multiple bodies.

I don't know if that's pointed out somewhere but there is an RSS feed for the forums here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/external.php?type=RSS2

I use Omea Reader to keep track of the discussion. Maybe this can help someone.

I scan film with a Canon CanoScan CS8600F. Results are not stellar, but for the price (saw it for $110) its OK.

OK, give me a few days to announce it on my site. And then we'll let it die as the ads expire. Thanks for providing a new space. I like that it is under one domain.

Hi Adam,

Should we move the classifieds that are currently here:

Pentax User Classifieds

to your domain/forum? You already have a marketplace here.

Hi Lance, and welcome!

I think that's it for me too, on the dpreview/Pentax SLR forum. Still have to find alternatives for the other forums on dpreview though.

Many thanks to Mo! Looks like you've build the Ark just in time.

Joel: You may also want to look at abetterbouncecard.com. It is a DIY bouncer. Very easy to build, very effective. I can recommend it highly. This discussion in the Canon group pointed me to it.

And here are some links to places where you can get the foam:
