So, not only did I find dust on my sensor this morning, 2 large specs, I found that behind the glass of the rear element on my 50-200mm DAL there is a piece of dust just under a mm in size!

Hoping it was outside I used the rocket blower and cleaning cloth, no luck, definitely inside the lens.

Anyway, I've emailed Pentax to find out if I can send them just the lens or will I need to send in the whole kit (K-X, 18-55, 50-200mm), its all under 2 months old, so there should be no problems (?).

I was actually going to put the 50-200 up for sale this morning so I can get the 55-300 instead, but I don't feel comfortable selling it with dust on the inside, despite the fact it doesn't appear to effect PQ.

....grumble grumble....

yeah focus is definitely soft, I'd never used this lens outside before, but I can't blame the lens it was clearly me.

I was also experimenting with the catch-in focus mode, not with much success it would seem.

Doesn't help that every time I stopped to take a photo my girlfriend was shouting at me to come on and stop taking photos of people!

Overall it was a decent day, Canterbury is a student town so always lively and plenty of characters around, I think I'll go back with my 50-200 or my 18-55 next time.

New to DSLR's but I'm really getting into it, I've posted more of these over in the post your photo's forum but here are a few.

Really got a buzz out of shooting these shots, I still don't have the courage to simply take a photo of someone in the street completely openly, especially since everyone treats photographers as either perverts or terrorists in this country (UK)!

You can view the set here, I think they work better as part of the whole set.

Anyway, here are a few from Camden Market, London.

Here's some more.

The first 2 are from Ripley's Believe it or not, it was taken in one of those weird rotating tunnels that make you go  posted the B&W as I think it works better.

The landscape/cityscape shots I'm not particularly fond of tbh, but I'll let you be the judge, I had no tripod, and only had time for a couple of shots as it was too cold and windy to stay still for too long!

The last few are from Parliament Square in Westminster, I did go back later to take some shots of the 'Demonstration' that was supposed to be happening, but I couldnt see anything going on :hmm:

Anyway, enjoy!

thanks for the info, I think there is a contact issue, sometimes I'm able to set it to f4.5-40, and sometimes its will be 3.5-22.

The connections all look clean so I don't know why this might be.

When I get a chance I'll go for a walk with it and give it a proper try out.

Sigma lens aperture help

I am borrowing a Sigma 28-80 1:3.5-5.6 Macro lens to play with on my KX.

The question I have is about the aperture settings. The aperture ring on the lens ranges from 3.5 - 22 and has an A setting.

I'm fairly confused, as when I set it to A I am only able to set it to 4.5 in camera, not 3.5, and it will go all the way to f40 the other way. Why is this?

Also, when I try to set the aperture manually (physically turn the ring) the EXIf data only ever reads it as f4.5, the aperture is definitely changing, but the camera doesn't seem to record this

I have set the camera to allow the shutter to release when the aperture ring is not set to A.

Also, looking on the forum lens reviews the closest I could find to this lens is this one. It looks exactly the same, except that the numbers on the rings seem to be going in the opposite direction. I'm pretty sure it's the same lens, but I'm not sure, which leaves me uncertain of the quality.

Which leads me to my next question.... do I need this lens?

I have the kit 18-55, and the kit 50-200, both of this lenses cover the range of the SIGMA, I'm not sure if the fact that these lesnes are 4.5 and the sigma is 3.5 will make any difference?

Perhaps as a walk around the slightly longer zoom and slightly less wide angle makes it a bit more versatile.

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

edit: one more question, what do the markings in the middle mean? 22 R | 8 22 22'|'22 W T

50mm SMC f2

So, looking online at lenses I came across the SMC Pentax-M 50mm F2 prime lens for £25 ($40), reviewed here SMC Pentax-M 50mm F2 Lens Reviews - Pentax Lens Reviews & Pentax Lens Database

I own a KX already with the kit 18-55 and 50-200mm.

Do you think I should bother going for this lens or not?

I understand it's manual etc.

Would it be a decent learning tool for that price? or even at that price is it over priced?

There is also the 50mm smc f1.7 on fleabay which I understand is better, I'll see what price it's at when it's around finishing time and might get that instead.

I'm not too clued up on old lenses (not even sure it would fit on my KX), but from what I gather they generall perform better quality wise(?), so I'm just looking for some guidance/suggestions.

Thanks!

p.s: I'm going to Vegas in April, is there any call for such a lens there? (grand canyon, the strip, lights, sunsets)

I that case thank you very much and hello.

There was a plant sat in front of a mirror, I was about 2m away with the camera on a tripod.

I found a gap through the leaves fired away.

Glad you like it. :)

Got my KX a few weeks ago now, I have been posting here, thought I should introduce myself.

My name's Paul, I live in Kent in England, I'm 22 and photography is my new-found favourite hobby.

I upgraded from my trusty Optio S12 (love that camera, still won't go anywhere without it in my camera bag) to the KX.

Hopefully I can share some images with you all and learn a lot from your input.

Thanks, glad you like it, didn't come out too bad seeing as it was pretty spur of the moment and really wasn't supposed to be blurry at all!

I'm going to try this again and see if I can get the camera super sharp, see how it looks.
