Thanks! That's why I posted the pic, to get other ideas on interpretation and what I could have done. I am sure I'll post others, later, because I love to see what other opinions and interpretations I can learn from, while still being true to my own interpretations. I take all comments as instructive and constructive.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the input. I hadn't looked at it as focusing on the red area, as much as a study of the many different contrasting textures. The color, just added an additional element of interest, for me. Certainly, the branch is distracting, though, and, hidsight being 20/20, I agree that a shot from a higher angle would probably have been more pleasing. Since I only took one shot in passing, I'll have to dabble a bit in Photoshop to see what I can come up with to make it more interesting.

Thanks!

I love shots like this. The splash of color on the side of the turtle's head is an attention getter. The front foot, under the water looks almost like it is an extension of the turtle's head.

kite and child

I like this, and think it is an interesting composition, but something about the kid in the foreground being so out of focus bothers me. I love the idea that the kid is blurred, bringing more attention to the kite, but I think just a bit more depth of field, but still keeping the kid out of focus, might have made it an even more interesting shot.

Good stuff!

Unsung heros...

I agree with Ole. Focusing on a different point, either the man in the center, or the U in the word UNSUNG would bring attention to a more interesting part of the frame. Stopping down a few stops might have made a big difference, since there would be more in focus, that way, as well.

I do think it is an interesting subject and composition, otherwise.

Good lens for K100D ???

I have several lenses. They are listed here in teh order of how useful I find them in everyday shooting:

Tamron A03P 28-200 3.8-5.6 (my most used lens, most of my favorite pics I have gotten from my K100D were through this lens--80% of the time this is on the camera)

Pentax DA 18-55 kit lens 3.5-5.6 (I mainly use this when I need more on the wide angle end, especially indoors, but since the Tamron covers most of the focal range and is faster throughout most of the range this lens covers, it stays in the bag quite a bit--on the camera about 8% of the time)

Pentax F 50 1.7 (Mainly for low-light indoor stuff, and when I want a nice sharp portrait or macro shot with my closeup filters on it--on the camera about 8% of the time)

JC Penney A 135 2.8 (for when I want a bit more reach and the light is low. This would be great at concerts and such, but I rarely use it)

Pentax F 35-80 4-5.6 (I like this one because it is so light and compact, but very rarely use it, opting for the flexibility and/or speed of the other lenses)

Realistically, when I leave the house and don't want to carry the whole bag, the 28-200 will be on the camera, and I MIGHT have the 18-55 in a pouch attached to my waist, just in case.

K10D and Preflash

I have a K100D, and had wondered the same thing. There IS a solution that is mentioned indirectly in the manual for my camera, and I have a sneaking suspicion that the K10D behaves similarly.

If you use either M-series or screw-mount lenses, according to the manaul, this causes the flash to fire at full power (thus no pre-flash, though the manual doesn't say this). In this case you must manually adjust your exposure, but if you are working with slave flashes, you are going to be manually adjusting and moving things around anyways, I would assume.

This approach seems to work well for me, so far, though I have only done VERY preliminary tests.

"I checked a new Vivitar 285HV with Quest rechargable batteries and got 13.31 volts. I have burnt the sync out of two Pentax AF bodies in the last year."

Looking at the context of that post, and the date it was posted (over 5 years ago), I wonder about its relevance, today.

Secondly, the user never indicated that the measured flash is the one that caused the problems. In fact, he indicates later that "I use a Sun ringlight..."

SO, should we still worry? My instinct is to take the common interpretation of that user's very old post with a large grain of proverbial salt.
