Pentax smc-M 50/1.4 focusing ring

Thank you for your answers. As far as I can see, it would seem that the rubber never was glued to the ring but rather fitted into place, as time went by it became more loose. It's still a very usable focus ring though...

Pentax smc-M 50/1.4 focusing ring

Hello,
I'm writing here hoping someone could advise me on a small problem I'm having with my 50/1.4 M. The rubber on the focus ring has become quite a bit loose and i can now easily take it off the lens. I can still focus reasonably well, but I'm afraid the situation might get worse. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue, maybe stick it back on the lens or something ? I would be grateful if anyone could suggest me an easy fix since the closest option for repair is in the UK (I'm in Romania) and would probably go for around 70 $.
I thank you in advance for your feedback
Have a nice day :D

Dear Pentax,
I would love it if you could make an analogue looking, weather sealed DSLR. It should have a metal body and somewhat resemble the MX or K1000; It should have a shutter-speed dial like old manual cameras but with an added A position, it should have only the most basic functions like WB and saturation and only P,Tv,Av and M modes - you would get P if you had both the lens and the shutter-speed dial set on A, Av with only the shutter on A, Tv whit the lens aperture ring set on A, and M by selecting values on both the aperture ring and the shutter-speed dial. It shouldn't have a popup flash. It should have a classic cable release thread. It should meter well with all lenses (that means including K and M lenses). An the most important spec...it should be FullFrame. Autofocus is not mandatory but not rejected either.
I would also suggest a new, weather sealed, wide-normal prime to go with the camera above. It should be fast, or at least f2. I was thinking of something around 45mm for full-frame or 30mm for crop sensor. It's design should go with the camera above and it must have an aperture ring with A position on it.
Anyway, I sincerely hope that one day you will come up with something that will be pretty close, if not better than what I suggested here.
Thank you.

I've taken this shot at the local zoo with my MX and my very first roll of B&W film. I love this shot and thankfully this month's theme fits the shot pretty well.

Pentax MX maintanance - DIY?

I finnaly did it. I managed to get it open and clean it....though i did a pretty sloppy job, it's still a little better than before. No I'm more confident and I won't be afraid next time (though my fears were partly founded cause i managed to brake the little extension of the focusing screen, but it doesn't seem to have done any harm). I thank all of you for your help and support.

i'm still encountering difficulties because the metal "lip" of the focusing screen seems to be bent ant i don't want to stress it further. I guess i'll live with the dust, which is actually not as disturbing as it used to.

:DHa. I don't know if Trajan needed an excuse to conquer someone. After all, it was during his reign that the Roman Empire stretched the furthest. But he might have needed to ask his mother for permission : "Mooom, can i go and conquer something, pleeease ?!?", "Not today, deary, it's cold outside" - I kid the Roman emperor . Who knows, maybe Trajan would have been a Pentaxian himself, given the opportunity.
Cheers everybody,
Matt.

Hi. Dacia was conquered by the Roman Empire in 106 AD. After that began the Formation of the Romanian people, which some say finished around the 6th century. We do have quite a few castles and few medieval fortresses; there's even a medieval fortress in my town. I'll upload as soon as i can find the time to resize some photos.

Hi everybody! Maybe i should have posted this earlier, when i first became a Pentax user (this autumn i received a Pentax MX with 50mm/1.4 as gift from my dad, from his return from Seoul - btw I absolutely fell in love with it forever). Now my K-7 just arrived this Christmas and I'm having tons of fun with it. I'll never give up on film photography, but i needed a digital camera because color sides are really hard to find in Romania, let alone get them developed, so i couldn't really get the colors i wanted from color negative film. I don't regret going for Pentax and i have a feeling I never will. Now if i could just get my hands on at least one Limited lens :D( LBA setting in, but i already have the cure - i have no more money )
All in all I'm just another guy adding to the number of relatively few, but none the less valuable, Pentax Users.
Cheers,
Matt:lol:.

I never said the mirror stayed up because of the foam. I said it's stays up in the cold, probably because it need's to be serviced - oil changed and all that - but ,as i said, i live in Romania and thus i can't really get it serviced cause no one deals with film cameras here (Romania is a bad place for film photography; you can't even find color slides in stores anymore, let alone find a way to get them developed).

I don't really know what you mean by easy fix. So far I wasn't even able to remove my focusing screen to clean some really annoying dots. I'm so afraid that I'll break something, and i really don't want to push my luck cause i love my MX:D.

My father bought me an MX when he visited Seoul. I absolutely love it, but I've been having the same problem in the cold. The mirror stays up there until i get it back inside. I haven't had my shots from my only cold trip with the MX developed yet, so ill have to wait and see. As for the CLA it's not an option for me(i live in Romania and nobody does Pentax repairs here, or any other film camera repairs for that matter) so i'll just have to use my lovely MX in warmer weather.

Pentax MX maintanance - DIY?

I have received a Pentax MX as a present a few months ago. I'm incredibly happy with it and i't always a joy to use (now that i also have a K-7 i still prefer to use the MX because of it's viewfinder and many other aspects). The problem is that i have started to notice some undesired particles on the inside of my focusing screen (i tried to wipe the reachable side but they didn't disappear, so i concluded that the residue - that look like some crumbled inside coating particles - are on the other side of the focusing screen). I would appreciate if someone could tell me if there is anything i could do to clean it up myself or if i should live with it,because i can't send it to the Eric i keep hearing of (i live in Romania, so it's not worth sending it abroad because the camera has nothing else wrong with it, it works like a dream).
Eagerly awaiting answers,
Matt :D
