Just updating the status of my warranty repair situation. After having to send my camera back in for repair work on a crack in the body that was not there when i sent the camera in the first time I have received it back from Precision Camera. The crack in the bottom plate is now gone. They replaced the bottom plate and the camera looks as good as new. I had to wait on parts for the repair for a couple weeks but it wasn't too bad. I will say, UPS beat the crap out of the box both times I received it back from them. Honestly, both boxes were beat up more than any package I have ever received from anywhere which I found to be strange. Fortunately, this second time around the camera survived the abuse. All in all, my experience with Precision has been pretty good. I didn't have any communications with them directly for any reason. I just contacted Pentax/Ricoh through their online chat and they were very quick to help. The repair to the crack in the bottom plate cost me nothing.

An update on my repaired camera returned with a cracked body: I contacted Ricoh/Pentax via their online chat and informed them that my camera was returned to me with new damage. They within hours sent me a return shipping label to send back to Precision Camera for repair of the new damage. I am now waiting for its repair. The status says they are waiting on parts. I'll keep this forum posted with any information to help others if they run into a similar issue. I did ask the chat associate what would happen in the event my camera could not be repaired to like new standards and he said the camera would be replaced.

I just sent a Pentax K5IIs in to have the SD card slot repaired. The slot wouldn't lock the card in place and so it wouldn't stay in the camera. Precision camera was quick to fix it and I had it back within a week or so. I was surprised to find though when I opened the box and inspected the camera that now the bottom corner of the metal is cracked. Hopefully Precision Camera or Pentax/Ricoh will resolve this issue but I just wanted to post my experience so far. Has anyone else had equipment come back damaged? How did you proceed? Thanks!

I am having a similar issue with my K01 that adsouza reports. I dont believe the battery is depleted when the camera shuts down. I can put in my fully charged OEM battery and the camera reports the battery as full. I am able to operate camera menus and even record video but as soon as i try to take a photo the camera will shut off and not turn back on. I have to remove the battery and put it back in the charger before it will turn the camera back on. I only have to put the battery in the charger for a second or two and i can put it back in the camera again and it reports as full and will record video and operate menu functions again. It seems like the charger is resetting something in the battery or something of the sort. None of these issues happen with my non OEM Wasabi brand batteries. Has anyone else experienced something similar or know what might be going on with my OEM battery? I have no other camera i can test my OEM battery in. Thanks in advance!

I use a program called Faststone that seems to browse RAW files very quickly and also has many other great features like being able to batch convert your RAW files to jpeg. It is free... Just give it a google. |

Mine is scheduled for delivery on January 9th. I hope it really does come with the 01 lens since that is the only reason I purchased it!

I can tell you that the card I received with my Q from ShopNBC is working great inside my Q and also records video from the Q without a problem.

Hey Scott,
Thanks for the reply! I didn't even think about how the infrared filter would affect the LCD view of the image. Thanks for bringing that to my attention as that is something I need to be aware of. I think I'm going to buy a cheap one to play around with and see how things go. After all... I'm starting to think the Q excels in experimentation and hopefully I can get some interesting pics. I wonder if anybody is ever going to do a sensor conversion for the Q to make it solely an infrared cam. Could be interesting.

I have received my Q from the ShopNBC deal and I am so far really enjoying it. It is incredibly small and you don't realize how small it is until you hold it in your hand. Anyway... I am looking for more creative ways to use mine and was wondering... has anyone used any 40.5mm infrared filters with the 02 zoom lens on the Q?

Pentax! Please lower your lens prices! I would love to purchase more Pentax glass but I can usually only afford third party lenses. I would much rather spend my money with Pentax if I could afford the lenses! Thanks!

That's great! I'm very excited about this now. I was worried because of the bad reviews and almost didn't buy one. Now I'm very glad I did. Says I should get mine Tuesday! I can't wait.... but now I'm going to have to collect lenses for two systems... don't think my wallet is going to like that very much, ha ha.

I would love a green Pentax Q also! That would be awesome... I currently have a green Pentax K-X and now my recently acquired white K-01. If they had offered the K-01 in green I would have bought that in a heartbeat.... kind of sad that a simple color can have such an effect on my purchasing decisions. ha ha ha.

We should start a petition for it. I'm assuming they plan to release it though considering they had the pentax q lens roadmap with it on there. I would think they would only include it on the lens map if it is inteded as a stand alone purchase? They had it on there along with some other lenses that have yet to come like the macro lens. If they release a macro lens for the Q I'm definitely purchasing a Q or Q10.

I wonder if there are going to be any crazy deals on the Pentax Q for black friday. Seems like everybody is trying to get rid of the old models now. I noticed that Best Buy has not lowered their prices on the Pentax Q at all... still shows to be $649 for the kit with the prime. Another odd thing is that they have recently added the kit identical to this one at Target and they have it up for $499. They also list it as a "New!" product. Odd... maybe they don't know that Pentax made a replacement camera and lowered the price for these kits?

Hmmm.... this seems like a good deal. Looks like it comes out to about $330 after tax so that is still cheaper for this package than anywhere else. Thanks for posting. I might just have to purchase one of these and figure out how to get the 01 prime lens later down the road.
Pentax! Please release the 01 prime lens separately for the Q!
