K5 LCD screen

Thank you for you're answer.

The K5 has never been exposed to water, so perhaps a loose connection might be the culprit.
This weird behavior arrived perhaps less than 10 times since I bought it in 2011.

To your point of view, Is this reparable at reasonable cost if it get worse, or will it be the end of the K5 ?

Cheers

Hi there :)

Sometimes (rarely) but happens, when I switch ON the camera the LCD on the back the colors are gone and and its showing all grey colors.
The content of the screen isn't as sharp at than before.

I must turn it OFF then ON again to have the colors back to.

If someone could tell me what is happening I would be very pleased.

Cheers

Thank you all for those precisions !
I went to a quick search about SDM failure, and for sure it's not what experienced, knock on wood :)
According to that survey, it looks like the one I bought might not be a recent one according to the serial n°...

I'm not worrying that much, 'cause here in Belgium we have a two years warranty period

Thank you eddie for that return.
I feared that it "might" be a sign of SDM failure...

Almost two weeks that I own this lens, lots of pictures (training phase) done, but one more question for the road...

Sometimes, rarelly, when I aim to another spot than the last shot, I can hear the AF / SDM hunts for the good focus but stop somewhere giving me an all blurred screen. I have to re press half way the button and it's then spot on.

Would this kind of behaviour be normal to you all ?

Thank you

So apparently its normal.
I was just asking this because with none of the lens of my signature I had this kind of behaviour.
There all spot on while on the 5 points setting.
It might be due to the fact that the 200mm is much larger ?

Thank you all for you're feedbacks

Hi all :)

Recently, and most probably due to the LBA I got one...
I am quite new at it and have a question to those who owns one.

I found that the lens, sometimes, has difficulty to focus where I want. This mainly in the 5 points mode. If I choose the spot on option it's fine so far.
Example if I shoot a bird on a tree that is beyond various branches sometimes in the 5 points mode the focus isn't quite right.
Often, the red dot (which I trust shows the exact focus point) is on the right or the left side, also sometime up, sometime down but never or not too often spot on.
Sometimes/rarely, it's all blurred. I haven't had that with any of my signature lenses

Is this a normal behaviour ?

Many thanks for you're help

K5 & 70mm f2.4 Limited behavior...

Hello there :)

I have recently bought the 70mm f2.4 Limited lens and I must say that, though in the learning process to master it, it is a wonderful peace of kit !
But I have a question concerning one particular shot.

In real time, the chair is grey as shown. This one was taken with the 70mm but I cannot reproduce it any more. Every time I try, I always get the colour of the second picture, which is obviously wrong!

I have tried to shoot (with the box on the chair) in between 100 -> 800 iso and from f2.4 -> 10 with no luck :(
If I shoot without the box, the grey of the chair is perfect. With the box on... Blue !

Can someone help me understanding why I could only get once the correct color and not any more?
Is it the lens fault and should I return it ? Both pictures were taken with the W/B on auto. I have zero problems elsewhere with tat lens...

I have tried the same with my 40mm 2.8 and at the same setting, the picture is also "a little" blueish but nothing compare as above. If I use 3.4 it's perfect!
Also tested it with the 50 1:1.4 at the same setting, it's very very very slightly blue at f2.8. and perfect at 3.5

Can we call that Xtreme purple fringe?

Many thanks for your ideas / suggestions

Cheers
Bernard

Thanks folks .
I think that the blurred was mostly due to the DoF...

Have managed to find an A f1:1.4 50mm lens so its all ok now ;)

Well two pictures to compare, one taken with an 50mm f1.4 the other with the 18-135.
Both taken hand held, f7.1 125 iso400 and f7.1 125 iso200 One can barely tell the difference don't you think ?
Better than a just in case lens,at least for me ;)

Via an Internet'site or a proximity shop
I use my K5 since Jan 11 and it's flawless.

I have the K5 since January this year, used it plenty with a 18-135 lens as well as the 40 2.8 limited and a 1.4 50mm.
No dust at all yet, though I've used it a lot. Plenty polen this year over here...

Sorry guys, but for me you'll have to return it :(

Imho I do think that the 18 135 do quite well considering it's a zoom :p
Both of them straight from the box, just resized...

Differences between 5 or 11 points AF

Thank you guys for you're opinions :)
And for info, I shoot mostly in Av Tav and M mode. On my Kr I mostly used 5 points but with the K5 I thought that using 11 points could give a little sharper image around the focusing point that I choose.

Hello there ;)

Can someone please tell me which setting is best for "normal use", and why?
When to use one or preferring the other?
I can't find anything in the manual covering it.

My K5 came standard with 11 points

Many thanks in advance

Hi there !

After a looooong time trying to decide myself and a loooong time waiting for it, (the store didn't have one) since yesterday I've got my copy of the 18 135 :)
Small review of it will follow, but in the mean time some photos !

I must say that I am very pleased with that lens and I hope that it will get better with time when I'll master the beast best setting.
It's fast, sharp, never will replace a prime lens but seems more than enough good.

Very good walk away lens to my humble opinions with my 1:1;4/ 50 A lens...

You're thoughts ?
Cheers

Thank you all folks, things gets a little clearer in my head now :)

Another question, what would suggest in replacement for my DAL 18 55 that came with the kit, not a bad lens but coud be better. I already own that 1:1.4 / 50 mm lens and A F1:4 / 200 (both Manual.) I was thinking of Pentax DA 17-70mm f4 AL (IF) SDM which could be a good all around lens ?

Thanks for your input.
