My K30 failed at about 12000 images. I almost never used Live View. I still shoot a lot of photos with my K30 but now they are all with old A and M lenses with the aperture ring. Since all of these are manual focus, I now use live view regularly.

A few photos from a recent soccer match taken with a Bower 85mm f1.4. Not bad for a manual focus lens. I had let my daughter use my 70-200 f2.8.

A shot from a performance this weekend. Shot with the K-30 and the Bower (Samyang) 85mm f1.4. ISO 400, 1/125 and f2.0.

Yup. I'm sure. I've checked all those settings and as confirmation there isn't any consistent sequence to the underexposed shots.

It happens regardless of the metering mode and is extremely inconsistent. Even full manual (which is how I usually shoot), on a tripod pointed at a blank wall and it still happens. I am inclined to think something is sticking as it is more likely to happen at the beginning of a sequence of shots, although one will be dark every now and then regardless. EXIF data all shows the same settings as well but wildly different exposures. Sounds like a trip for service is in order.

Exposure sometimes is unpredictably way off.
For example, during testing with fully charged battery, exposure set to manual, fixed ISO, bracketing off, matrix metering and taking a picture of exactly the same scene: one image about 3 stops under exposed, one about 1 stop under and one that is spot on. Not quite random because the under exposure it is much more likely to happen with a single image and the first image of a sequence. It can nail 10 images and then mess up 3 or vice versa. The majority of shots are exposed correctly. This has happened with every lens I tried after it initially started. The shutter sounds normal but I haven't focused much on the sound.
Any ideas would be welcome. Mike

I started having the similar problem a couple of weeks ago in my K30. During testing with exposure set to manual, fixed ISO, bracketing off, matrix metering and taking a picture of exactly the same scene: one image about 3 stops under exposed, one about 1 stop under and one that is spot on. Not quite random because the under exposure it is much more likely to happen with a single image and the first image of a sequence. It can nail 10 images and then mess up 3 or vice versa. This has happened with every lens I tried after it initially started. For me the exposure times ISo and other factors did not seem to matter.

I'd go for the full-frame but, I am really interested in broadening the lens selection. Particularly fast primes. The limiteds are nice but relatively slow. An improved 16-50 f 2.8 would be nice too.

Lots of great pics. Getting to choose 17 might be too many though. Having more choices doesn't necessarily makes it easier.
People are never happy! :)

Thanks to all the reviewers! As a fan of the old manual focus lens, reviews like these are especially useful when thinking about acquiring an older lens. Thanks again.
