My wife never touched my K3 or K3II as she felt intimidated by them. The joy of this camera is that you can shot it like a point and shoot, priority or manual. Then of course we shared the lenses which for the most part worked fine until we both wanted to do macro. I would recommend downloading the manual and leaf through it with her I think she would be pleasantly surprised .

If you get a chance take the 18-50mm out for a test it is a different little lens. Very quiet, quick to focus and very small. I shot with a variety of kit lenses over the years and this 18-50 was my favourite despite it's plastic construction. With that said it does not compare to the many good primes I have shot with but they are as different as an orange as to a apple.

Thanks for the observation but this camera was actually kitted with the retractable 18-50mm. It took me a bit to figure out the retraction lens thing but it's pretty cool for transport and the lens is far sharper than the 18-55.

My wife had similar complaints so I bought her a White KS2 with Sigma 50mm Macro 2.8 and the kit lens 18-50mm which have worked great. Now sometimes next week I was going to be posting it your interested as we are unfortunately leaving the Pentax family and all my equipment is being sold off minus my vintage lenses.

Well I promised a response and here it is.
No email responses to my questions I even sent 2 different emails using different emails and letters.
I have contacted every retail outlet in my area and spoke my repair facility all at length (30 min conversations approx each, ). I even moved to contacting retail companies within 1300 km of my home, the answers the same.
I have phoned Pentax directly 2 times and spoke to customer service at length. The map is still twirling, the Pentax retail list emailed to me is still dated 2017 and incorrect.
The indirect answers I have seen before in business have always lead to the same conclusion. I have a buyer for some of my two lower end back up equipment which I am occupying. Three dslr's and full equipment will be left. Selling 2 sets will make room to start testing other brands while I wait to see what Ricoh finally does.
What burns me is that I love using Pentax while their inaction here in Canada tells me a story I have not been wanting to hear. The 400mm I had repaired and cleaned is working great. So far all my equipment is working great. For now I will enjoy the Pentax gear, enjoy photography and hope that I do not have any issues.
Ricoh get your act together and support your supporters before you lose us.

Update:
I spoke to the three companies that that have worked with Pentax in Winnipeg the same response.
1. The equipment was good
2. The people they worked with were awesome
3. The sales not good
2 of the 3 only special order Pentax goods while the other dropped the brand.
Pentax themselves have not responded but I wait a little longer.
As a business owner discontinuance of product is part of growth, support is not. In a global economy as ours Pentax should do things different. I go online or on the phone place orders around the world and see it within a week. Introducing direct orders from Pentax would solve the supply issue and maximize profit. Yes it would increase lead times but with shipping and duty costs the responsibility of the consumer financially a win. As Pentax is generally not available in brick in mortar anyway where is the loss?
The very fact that I have yet to see any response good or bad from Pentax is telling of the support. The map is still rotating so if anyone new is looking to find a dealer in Canada good luck. So I love my gear I hate the lack of support.

So I returned home to see that my post has received many responses so here is my generic responses.
What I quoted is what I sent to Ricoh in a cut and paste and I will give you their response when I get it.
I am fully aware that this is a vintage lens discontinued long ago which I expect to be lacking parts. The real concern is the Technicians take on Pentax. They work on more cameras then we do, it's there business in this region. They work with more manufactures and they know these companies. His take is that Pentax does not support their customers.
So now I have a concern with the service dept, thankfully I have only needed my Pentax's to be serviced a handful of times but it is concerning. Then every few years I rotate my Camera purchases between three brick and mortar stores in my region. As of today there is only one that sells Pentax I would ask you to try finding who sells Pentax through the Canadian Ricoh website, as my map just loads?? With no direct Pentax Canadian direct sales option I must purchase outside my province to another brick and mortar that are shrinking.
As a businesses owner success and failure of my business rests with me. I do the hiring, the firing and the final decisions are mine. Now with Pentax I love my equipment and the art. When I finish a hard week I go out and shoot with Pentax equipment because I want to. Now I want to continue to support this company but how will I be able to if they are not available to buy or to difficult to repair. Now as a driven bushiness owner I cannot stand idly by to wait and see so I made my first move to tell Pentax my concerns. Not to whine and complain but as a means of change. I could have done it alone and said nothing but I did it to encourage the rest of you. If there is enough continual feed back that we want to see changes they can either listen and 1. ignore (which is a response) or 2. change.
So this is not a whine session it is to start the process of change. I am not here often because I am to busy moving mountains in the non cyber world and those that know me know that all to well. The choice is yours whine about it or do something about it, I am a doer.

Moderator please please this where you thinks this best serves.
As a business owner I have to make difficult decisions and this year I had to sever ties with 2 large companies. One of those companies we dealt with since the 1980's and the other the 1990's. I did not take these decisions lightly and emotionally I had to detach myself as it was what was best for my company and my customers.
This week I couriered my 400mm lens in to a repair facility requesting a cleaning and repair. I spoke to the tech who said the following " I will do what I can't but I am sorry Pentax does not support their customers if we need anything from them".
I deeply reflected on that comment and turned to my brick and mortar supports for Pentax and discovered another was not flying Pentax colors while another had decreased it's stock.
So this morning I went to the Canadian map to see where else to go and it would not work so I sent the following to support at Pentax.
"Just needing to know who is all selling your products here in Manitoba or are you going to online ordering. You have now reached 100 years with little fanfare and I could not even get a list of your retailers in Canada from your map. Now I have been a Pentax user since the 1980's using many legacy lenses but now question where is Pentax's future. With a decreasing brick and mortar presence and no online sales where am I left to? I just recently sent in a 400 mm lens in for repair and I was advised that they will do what they can but Pentax is not not really supporting their customers anymore.
So do I continue to invest in Pentax or do I sell it all take a loss and invest in another Brand so I can concentrate on photography and not my my brands longevity. I have 4 dslrs. 1 mirrorless, 12 different lenses, 5 flashes all dedicated to Pentax the questions is are you dedicated to me?"
So why the post, I love photography and I love the Pentax legacy to do my art the way I want to. I just want Pentax to get it together and provide products, support and keep me in the loop and not have to worry about their future. So I can only do what I can by starting with support and I will work my way up so why do I tell you all this. If enough of us pressure Pentax to change they can 1. ignore us and we know where we stand or 2. Change and we all can work on our art not our worries.
Just a thought. Loving Pentax not loving the unkown!

Please see Software Downloads : Support & Service | RICOH IMAGING
As I remember a firmware upgrade is required for the newer larger cards. So check which firmware you have via the link instructions and update the firmware. This is very important only use fresh good quality batteries when upgrading the firmware and do not turn it off until the instructions tell you to. If you turn it off mid update you will own a brick not a camera and you would need to send it in for repair. Start there and your problems should be solved.:)

DCU I use this to quickly review my raws for composition and quality. I also use this for my pixel shift work.
After Shot Pro 3- this is my step 2 , proofing. A lossless raw program (jpg also) that is fast and does batch work. Easy to put water marks on and create final jpgs. I depend on this program.
Paintshop Pro 2019- my step 3 for the fine detailed work. It is very much like photo shop and does photo shop things. It also does almost any file type, HDR's (single raws or combined), 360 Theta work (removals and adjustments). It even provides step by step instructions. It is a ram hog though, the 2019 version is better than the last one. I run 16gb of ram and I make sure to do psp saves in between large changes in my work just in case. It is not expensive and worth having.
Faststone- is a little bit of everything but not enough overall. I love being able to create slide shows in it for my clients and give it to them as they run independent of the program. I recommend my clients to use it and to donate to the developers.

Studied under my photography year book teacher (a professional photographer) to working 2 years at junior high school year book and lab. 3 Years of in classroom in High School( under Another Professional photographer) also did year book. Ran a photo lab then a studio all while training myself, taking seminars, classes, then internet classes. Manuals, magazines, photo clubs and practice, practice, practice. and more practice.
What I have learned is there is so much to learn by book and personal experience. A formal education is good but you must have the creative eye, the artistic abilities to really make your art stand out. There were many good ideas here where you can get the training you might want that I agree with that I have taken.
I believe get as much education as you can afford time and financially then more importantly go out and enjoy practicing your passion.

Well with all the out of the box thinking on this I came across something last night that I had to share. As I have recently bought a Theta V I went to Amazon and bought a COMAN Selfie Stick Tripod Kit MT50 . Now I packed this due to the low footprint and editing needed when using it. So I started to really look carefully at it because of the weight issues. It comes in 2 pieces the stick then the tripod feet. Each carry the standard tripod head and each have a ball head. You can see where this is going so I checked the specs max 2.5kg as a unit. So I mounted a dslr on the foot portion of the tripod it works great. No it's not like my studio tripod or my travelling tripod but you can make it work. So thank you everyone for your assistance I just gained another tool in my kit.

I am a bit of a boy scout which has paid off. The most important was a trek across western Canada when my K5 freaked out fortunately I had a back up. A flash during a soccer shoot and a lens during another Canada trek. So I would love to travel lighter but I don't trust equipment as it has no sense of duty to me despite my best efforts to treat it kindly. As this trip has been a dream for me since childhood as I always wanted to visit the ruins I am preparing for the worst and praying for the best. So I intend on doing some serious work this time just for me and my family.

okay this is what I have done.
I loaded my 120aw full it is 16lx8dx8.5w and weighs 3.9 kg
I unloaded my 400aw which is 19lx10dx12w and it now weighs 4.2kg
the 120aw I stow under the seat according to Sunwing and the 400aw is the carry on. I will stuff my cargo shorts (get a multi pocket vest) with the extras and move whats needed before security.
I will have a k3 and k3II a 55-300, Primes 14,35,50, external flash, theta v, small tripod, batteries, cards, chargers, card reader with jump drive for theta.
Thank you everyone for the great ideas and advice, now I am pumped to get out and enjoy.

I tried this and found a empty bag really quick. I am trying to pack a 102aw sling right now as a lap bag which is allowed without weighing.

Okay my family and I have not traveled a lot by plane and when we did my two Lowe Pro Flispside 400aw as a carry ons worked for size and there was no weight restriction with West Jet. Now I am going to Mexico (direct flight) and I am limited to 5kg on Sunwing. So the question I have is do I check the bag as luggage? Who has tried it and what did you use? All the equipment is insured with a floater so I am not worried that way but I need the equipment when I get there. Please share your experiences. So far Sunwing has not been helpful and essentially told me to keep my equipment at home. Next time it will be West Jet but I still have this trip.
Thanks
Todd
