You don't get it, I want to freeze faster motion than a fan blade. Try stopping a water drop spash at 1/30th, not to mention unwanted ambient.. Jeez...

Stop complaining? If you would have taken the time to read, and fully comprehend my post, instead of trying dazzle with your technical commentary, you would see that my real concern is stopping motion. Not ambient light issues.

So I will continue to question Pentax's wisdom to limit the sync speed at 1/180,
and continue to use Canon or Nikon when I need to accomplish the task at hand.

Whether are not it pleases you.

1/180 is fine for most situations. Just wish that Pentax would try to use a more standard syn speed of 1/250, like the rest of the industry. This would allow us to freeze some action shots like water splashing and such.

I can freeze water drops and splashes with my Canon at 1/250. 1/180 is close, but you can see the difference in the shots.

I'm just trying to replace "all" my Canon and Nikon gear with Pentax, and it seems that they are determined to not let me do it! K-5 won't even tether without a 3rd party software, that solution can be very finicky, and I still need that support to be in Lightroom.

Ok, so I have figured out that the when using remote triggers, it this case the PCB Sybersync's system, the K-5 will not send a fire signal to the hot shoe if your shutter speed is set to anything over 1/165sec.

This is usable of course, but it would be nice if the K-5 would send a fire signal
to the hot shoe in M mode, no matter what your shutter speed, and let the shooter sort out any shutter lag issues themselves.

I have a 5DMKII and it will send a fire signal up to 1/250sec.
This speed difference lets me blow out more of the ambient light
than a shutter speed of 1/165sec.

Do you think this could be fixed in a firmware update?

Well this is good news! I pretty much thought that this is a normal condition. Especially when the second one turned out to have the same play, maybe even a little more than the first one.

This lens produces exceptional images. That I compare to Leica's color and rendering, but with
more sharpness!

Question for all 31mm 1.8 limited owners.

Current and former.

I love this lens that I recently acquired, but I have question on the build.
The front lens shade/element section has a slight wobble or play to it. If you hold
the lens in your hand, you can move this front section back and forth across the plane of the lens a small amount.

I this the normal lash for the front lens element? This lens is otherwise sharp as
a tack at all apertures, and takes great pics.

I ordered another one from B&H just to see if it had the same movement or play.
Well, it does!

I am assuming this is a normal characteristic for the 31 ltd?

Best Pentax KX & prime Europe travel kit?

I'm going to Europe this year and will have the 15,31,77 ltd's.

It depends on your shooting style really. I use a 5DMKII with Zeiss 21,50, and 100 so the
above range keeps me in the same perspective, (pretty much), when I go from one to the other.

Didn't forget the 43! It's a fine lens. But at a 35mm equiv of around 70mm just not a focal distance I use much.

I use the 15 for 24mm, and the 31 for 50mm, and the 77 for all around excellence at
123mm.

Still using my 5DII and Zeiss 21,50,100, so it keeps things more in perspective for
me when I switch between the two.

I am however considering the 43 for portrait work. We'll see...

Everybody is different though! :)

Just got my replacement body back for B&H. Also pulled the trigger on the 31 ltd.

Just a couple of quick shots in the back yard to test rendering, sharpness, and color. This is wide open at 1.8, 1/2500 ISO 400. Really handled the screen like a champ. No moiré!

I think I am going to love this lens! Still have to spend some quality time with it and get to know it.

The K-5 is the answer for me. Tired of carrying my 5DMKII and 3 Zeiss lenses around! Now it's the 15, 31, 77 ltd trilogy! Tried Nikon and an NEX also, but this setup is the real deal, and beats all the other solutions.

YMMV :)

Must be one with the low light focus issues and the notorious "string of beads" on the sensor!

Not a bad deal considering! heheheh!
