Thanks everyone that voted for my photograph. I am honoured to be in the top three. I encourage all of you to turn your photographs into simple gifts such as Christmas cards. I can tell you that people will much prefer your card over a $5.00 store bought one.

This was taken at the Zurich Train Station as we waited for the next train. The red phone and the red train really stood out, along with the emptiness of the platform.

I love baking gingerbread cookies and this year I decided to take a few pics to make christmas cards with. The light is natural light from the window and with a little help from the flour, it brightened up the otherwise dark molasses dough. People loved receiving their batch of cookies with the attached photo on their christmas cards (and recipe printed on the back). Now i just need to top that for next year. lots of fun!

Vancouver's annual Celebration of Light featuring fireworks from countries around the world. The fireworks are launched from a barge in English Bay, surrounded by boats in the bay and over 1.4million people watching from the beach and surrounding buildings in downtown Vancouver. If you're in Vancouver, BC this summer, it is a special evening not to be missed!

Thank you everyone.
Adobe DNG converter does not work for K5 in CS4. I took Schraubstock's advice and downloaded Photoshop CS5 as a 30-day free trial and am slowly going through pictures that I can now open! yay! and at the same time converting to DNG (at least the ones I want to keep). AND, I have changed my camera setting to shoot in DNG. I am using W7 Pro 64bit.
JeffJS, how do you view the raw files as thumbnails in explorer? I take alot of photos and sometimes take RAW+ just so I can preview the jpegs in explorer but it takes up alot of SD card space so this would fix that.
Does anyone use lightroom? pros/cons over using PS5?

Thank you. I guess my choice at this point is to upgrade to CS5 or buy lightroom3. Does ayone have any advice or preference between photoshop and lightroom? Seems the more people I speak to, they are using lightroom however I've never used it. If I buy it, is it easy to learn through use/manuals?

I use CS4 and just shot a wedding in PEF raw and can't open my files in PS! I went to the adobe site and K5 is listed on there for the DNG conversion however all of my upgrades in PS are up to date and it still doesn't work. Anybody else have the same problems and maybe found a solution?
I'll change to DNG going forward but I need to edit by 400+ images from this wedding asap. Please help.
error message when trying to open file in PS using 'open as' and then selecting 'raw' is:
Could not complete your request because the file-format module cannot parse the file.

For the 70-200mm I read this lens is effectively of 'KAF-3' mount specification, and therefore won't focus on bodies which don't support SDM lenses. What body were you using this on? I have a K10 and just want to make sure this isn't an issue. thanks

this was great. thanks! only suggestion (being my first flash I am purchasing) would be to include battery life ie. #flashes and in your 'shop' links to purchase nimh/n-cad batteries and charger.
Thank you! I just bought an EF 530 DG Super shipping included for $230 and am looking forward to receiving it.

I was more successful the second day out and tried a few of the tests you recommended. these I took at 800ISO. The duck is sharp and am happy with it (was moving slowly); the swan was continuously moving its head up and down and AF couldn't focus quick enough with this lens (DA 50-135) so I had to focus at the bottom of the neck/body and when the head came up it was slightly off on another plain so it is not 100% crisp (the swan head).
MF I don't think I could change quick enough either; any other tricks/tips for focusing on a moving subject that may change distance to the lens slightly each time.

I own the Sigma 10-20mm and it is my favourite lens. bought it before I went to europe and it was a great decision. I also have used the filter thread which is a nice feature. If you put a polarizing filter on it at that size the only problem I don't like is that the filter cap always falls off as there is not enough depth inside to have one attach properly.
here are some pics taken with it at 10mm and 16mm from the same spot.

This one was taken 1/750 f3.5. same issue with focus. body is good; head is out of focus. I'll try the ruler test. thank you for your suggestions. I'll test same shots with another lens today as well.
