MrApollinax, it's actually a 6HP, they don't make them anymore, they make the hs 724, which is only 1/2HP bigger... the hs724 retails for about $2300, i paid $600 for this, and continue to keep looking for others who are selling thse honda snowblowers -- i don't think you can ever find a better snowblower.

Pentax K200D or Canon Rebel XSi?

being the owner of a k10d, i wish i would have gotten the 40D... the k10d suffers from horrible dynamic range and even worse white balance in tungsten light. the 40D is beautiful (so is the rebel). while the k200 and k20d both have enhanced dynamic range, i think i'd still go with the canon over it because of the ease of finding cheap lenses, better dynamic range, and far superior white balance imo. if you can swing the 40d, i think you then get the weather sealed body, but i'm not sure how important that is to you.

this is just an honest post from a current pentax camera owner. don't flame me b/c i'm recommending a different camera :) these are just my observations over almost 2 years of k10d use, i've used the k200d on several occasions in the past, and find it's images very similar to my k10d, including terrible tungsten white balancing.

if i were a primarily outside photog, that'd be fine, but considering 75% of my images are indoor shots, it really sucks. but hindsight is 20/20 :)

james, it is the one i sent it... it's really pretty dead on...much better then when i sent it in. it still seems to have trouble when i take a a shot from a horizontal angle (for example - standing at an angle from a wall and trying to hit a very thin plane on it) -- but my son's pictures since i've gotten the lens back are much more crisp. I'm happy with the results.

JC - I got my camera back today -- thank you for the quick turnaround. When i first got it back, I thought that it wasn't focusing correctly still, but after some more test shots, it's much more consistent, though there are a few that come out a little wack, but nothing like before.

I think part of it is that when you're at f/2.0 or less, or even f/2.8 for that matter, the DOF is so exaggerated that I don't really expect it to be spot on every time. At least I don't think I should... I'd be curious to see what others thoughts are on this.

Spongefingers, here in the US, if you send your camera in under warranty, they extend your warranty by a year from the date they fix it. So you should be ok.

Anyways, I'm sure you don't have anything to worry about... My situation doesn't happen to everyone, there were a few posters there who got their equipment back just fine. For the record, I have a long history of bad luck with repairs on ANYTHING... that's just how it goes... and from the looks of it, I wouldn't worry too much anyways, Pentax will take care of you...

JC,
Thanks a bunch for your reply and attention to this. I'm pretty amazed to say the least that you're in here reading this. I understand how things can slip through the cracks - I've done computer repair for many years and am currently a programmer, and I completely understand how these things can get missed when hundreds of cameras come through your hands.

I wrote this note when I was told (after being told it was entered in as a rework) that it wasn't in as a rework, and as stated at the end of the post that i was mostly just frustrated. But again appreciate greatly your attention to this matter.

Thank you again very much!

I sent my K10D in initially back in September, just to get a cleaning before the warranty was up, have them check a few things I'd noticed in my photos (a couple of hot pixels etc.) Well, it took almost 4 weeks to come back to me...

When it first came back, i was excited, they replaced the cover on the top of the flash unit that had been a little scuffed up since I'd bought it, but didn't even mention it in the note i sent along since it didn't really bother me. I got taking some shots and noticed something strange: You know that "detent" or "positive stop" or tactile feedback you get when you press the shutter release halfway down? Well, it was gone, leaving me to guess where about half way down was, it just snapped the picture when I'd press it down. Well, i figured maybe I'd get used to it after a while. No such luck, I'd be trying to autofocus and snap! picture taken, moment ruined. Joy.

I was trying to convince myself that it was fine, i would just deal with it. But in heading out to the pumpkin patch on October 3rd, I brought my FA50/1.4 with me, and noticed that my shots were coming in very soft, i can't be sure if they were softer that before i sent it in, but I noticed it right away. Later that day I took some test shots on a tripod and confirmed that my FA50/1.4 was back focusing by about an inch - My other two lenses looked great. Judas... I've got to do something about this, i thought.

So I called Pentax, told them my situation, that I had my son's 1st birthday coming up on Nov 2nd, and wanted to be sure that I'd have my camera back by then. They assured me, that since it would get logged in as a rework, that should be an issue at all. So on October 10th I packaged it all up (including the lens) and shipped it off. In the box I included ALL of my receipts, including the original work order with the words "REWORK RECEIPT" on it in my handwriting.

My camera arrived in Golden, CO on Monday the 14th, and was logged into Pentax on the 15th. I called them on the 15th to make sure they received it, that it had been entered as a rework, and to get my order number and pin to check progress on the site. The woman i spoke with (wish i remembered her name, either erika or a-something) assured me that it was checked in and WAS in as a rework. Great news.

So today comes around, I thought I'd give them a call and see what was going on, if there was any update. To my surprise, Randy informed me that my camera was NOT in as a rework. WHAT? I explained to him the situation again, and that I have been told on two separate occasions that it would be handled as a rework and take priority.

They've now escalated this and I'm supposed to get a call from a supervisor tomorrow with a resolution, but I'm pretty frustrated, my first experience was less than stellar taking more than 20 days and coming back broken...

I can't bear the thought of not having my camera for my son's first birthday. Not to mention how silly this looks to my C**** friends who get their camera back after 1 week in repair -- a**h**les ;)

I guess i just needed to vent. Thanks for reading - Observations/Sympathy welcome :)

konraDarnok, The test shots i took were in the exact same lighting, just different lenses... my two DA lenses focused properly, the FA50 however has about an inch of back focus (maybe a little less)

I had to lens stopped down to 2.8, which is supposedly supposed to be sharp. I have pentax K10d.

I'm contemplating reverting back to firmware 1.10 and using the debug menu to adjust it myself rather than send it in. I just got it back for some other issues i was experiencing and it took almost 4 weeks.

Will the changes i make in the debug menu apply to only that lens? or will they apply to all?

The pentax rep told me if i send it in, it will only apply to that lens, but I assume they'll just be using the debug menu as well.

Also, my test shots were taken outside, so the lighting is not to blame, and as i stated before, my other two lenses were spot on.

I'm curious if this change will only take effect on my fa50, or will it mess up my other lenses which appear to be fine?

I just have a quick question - I've noticed about an inch of back focus (things further away than what i focused on are in focus - center focus point, and afs) with my FA50, but the same problem doesn't exist with my DA18-55 or my DA50-200. Is this possible to have the lens be at fault - or am I imagining it? the lens is still under warranty, but wanted to check here before I call and speak with Pentax.

there's no substitute for sending your camera directly to pentax. get it done right and send it in. should still be under warranty as long as the shop was certified to be working on your gear, and you've had it for less than a year, which has to be the case with a k20d :)

Pentax rebate taking a long time

I had to call about 3 times to get my rebates straightened out... 2 of the people were very helpful, one was far less than helpful, ended up just hanging up on them. Anways, they got me my rebates after several months... I just had to provide a minimal amount of information to them... irritating, you'd hope it would just work instead... but after a few calls i got mine. let it be said, the first time i called, they told me they didn't have any record of either of my rebates (one for the lens and one for the body).

imadethis is right, however, in lieu of buying a colorometer, you should be able to find some color profiles thaf will get you pretty close, or at least good enough for government work ;)

drabina, i know exactly what you're saying. you're probably using "Color LCD" as your color profile on your MacBook. I've got a MacBook Pro, and have run into similar issues trying to use the sRGB profile in there.

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on color settings, I was able to get my photos VERY close to how they print at our local shop. My local shop (Harold's Photo) sent me their color profile for their printers and I use that to proof my photos in when i'm using Aperture2. I imagine Adobe Lightroom has similar functionality for proofing your images in a different colorspace.

I'm not sure exactly how iPhoto handles color spaces, since my images seem too look pretty decent in iPhoto, but still not quite right. So I'm not going to be of much help there... I do have a couple of profiles that match very well to what everyone else'll be seeing. You're not going to get at match for everyone (because everyone's color settings are different) but you can get it look the same on your screen and when you print it. Let me know, and i can post a couple of these color profiles for you to try out. If you're not using Lightroom or Aperture, give 'em a shot. These profiles can also be used with Photoshop if you're using that. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'll be glad to answer them! I'm sure there are other that understand more the technical stuff with colorspaces that will be able to help as well!
