I agree with Biz, they look a little fuzzy,
Wondering if it's the lens being wide open. Maybe increase the iso and stop down a stop.

Also do the lens calibration, and adjust for any front/back focus issues.

I have both the tamron and the 16-50.
The tamron is smaller and lighter, but i reach for the 16-50 every single time. I love what comes out of that lens. Not sure if its the color, or the contrast, or what it is. but i definitely prefer it.

What are some alright WR lenses for a beginner?

Pretty certain that the only WR lens's yo'll find with a pentax mount will be pentax lenses. I don't believe that any 3rd party WR lens's exist.
The cheapest you're going to be able to find will be the 18-55WR, they go up in price from there, with the 18-135 and 16-85 being the next step up, both in quality and in price.

except that neither on is WR, and by definition super-zoom's are going to be a compromise in quality.
personally, i would start with the 18-55WR and 55-200 or 55-300 and see what range you use most, then look for higher quality lens's in that range.

the 55-300 is generally regarded as a better lens then the 55-200, but neither is bad by any means.
Pentax's "kit" lens, the 18-55 is no slouch, other then it being a little slow.

that kit will get you 18-200(or300) and will be a good compromise between price and quality while still retaining WR throughout the entire range.

you can probably find the 18-135 used in that range also, and that is WR, and a rather highly regarded lens.

all of the above can easily be found on the marketplace or other places used. (i prefer the marketplace personally, have not had a bad experience there yet)

really makes me miss my old 78 280. Converted that car from FI to SU carbs. was a ton of fun. Alas, i had to sell it when i moved from WA to NY...

still have the carb tuning spark plug, and a few crank tower shims somewhere in my toolbox(es)

One day i'll get another one.

Local car show at the lumberyard last weekend. Walked around with the DA21 for a while. Decided that i didn't want any "car" pictures. But i wanted to try taking pictures of parts.

Beautiful Shots.

Its nice to hear that the sacrifice offered by our servicemen is appreciated over there on the other side of the pond.

This statement hits me right in the heart. It often feels that people don't understand what the price of freedom is.

Thank You.

DA*16-50 repair or replace?

Thought about that, but then what's telling that the "new" one wont have the same (or another) issue. And Optically, this lens does VERY well, so i'm kind of hesitant to roll the dice again

Unfortunately i like the 2.8, It's fairly often that we're in the woods, and its fairly dark, and i want a high shutter speed, Shooting at 800-1600 iso is not uncommon at all, sometimes i have to go all the way to 6400 to get the shot.

DA*16-50 repair or replace?

So, my 16-50 died on me recently. Not the SDM, that was dead before i got it. Screw drive never bothered me.
Now the zoom is jammed up tight at 16mm. Done some reading, took it apart to look at the assembly to see if anything obvious was wrong. Couldn't see or feel anything. in fact the elements seemed to operate quite freely when liberated from the housing.
Put it all back together, issue remained, but other then that focus works fine, both AF and MF.

Now the quandary, KEH wants 320 standard fee to repair it, I can get another used one for not much more. Gut feeling says send it out, and have them work their magic. Or alternatively i could send it to precision and get a quote from them. Or, third alternative, roll the dice, and buy another used one. Repair/Replace time isn't really a huge issue, i photograph for pleasure, not work.

One way or another, i'm getting another one. I love this lens, it's perfect for what i need it for. Wide, Fast, and WR.

Cross Platform DAM/RAW

s, i've tried a bunch of different applications, and solutions to this.

Rawtherapee got really close, could have replaced my RAW converter with that, but the DAM aspect i was totally unable to find a suitable solution.

Add in LR mobile, and not having to completely re-learn or re-edit anything seems to make this almost a no-brainer.

Honestly, i think i'm going to jump on the cc bandwagon. sigh.

So, i was mucking arround on the dpReview site, and out of curiosity decided to click on the tab for highest rated ILC camera's. Needless to say, i was presently surprised with what i saw:

#1 Pentax Q 98.00%
#2 Pentax K-5 IIs 98.00%
#3 Pentax K-3 97.75%
#4 Pentax K-30 96.55%

It wasn't until #5 that another maker popped up with the Sony Alpha 7 at 95.91%

very interesting........

I just got my first 2 limiteds in the mail today. A 70 and 40, both smc.

I've always been pleased with the output from my k-30, but something just felt off. I never seemed to be able to capture the level of detail that I wanted. I put the lens's on the camera today when I got home, and took a couple pictures. Just dumb stuff on the back porch.

All I can saw is WOW. the level of detail out of these is incredible. I am totally blown away. 15 and 21 here I come.

Have you tried a rocket blower yet? So far that's all I've had to use. Also try dust removal with the sensor shake while holding the camera upside down.
