Sadly my copy, didn't come with all the same accessories as LeRolls lens did! Beautiful shots and beautiful models. I vote LeRolls for King of this Club!

DFA*50/1.4 test in French

Conclusion
With this objective an almost 30-month shortage without the sale of new D FA products comes to an end. Which is a long time. But in the end, the wait was worth it, because the goal turned out to be monstrous. In every sense of the word. By its weight certainly, but especially by its impressive performances. It shows itself remarkable with a beautiful resistance to flare and AC outside while proposing an excellent homogeneity of the image and an absence of distortion.

But what we can remember is that this D FA ★ 50/1.4 seems to be at ease in any type of shooting. Outdoors, its all-weather construction allows it to be taken out in any condition while producing crisp, balanced images. Indoors, it will rise to the occasion, both in classic conditions of use (family assembly, etc.) and in studio conditions. One can only reproach him for being a little too precise in the details. This is undoubtedly one of the brand's best objectives in a long time (probably with the D FA ★ 70-200).

There remains the price, which many might find excessive. For these, we can only recommend the FA 50/1.4, which is smaller and more accessible. The D FA ★ 50/1.4 is a high quality objective, which deserves the STAR designation and whose price is justified.

The Plus
Optical quality from full opening
The homogeneity of the image from the center field to the edge field
Ultra-fast and accurate focusing
All Weather Construction Quality
The bokeh

The least
The weight
Note
94/100

It will be interesting to see it compared to the DA55 f1.4, Sigma 50mm f1.4 and the many 50mm primes Pentax has produced. Lets hope we'll see a comparison review soon.

Get the DFA 150-450 and don't look back. There are many 50's that may not be quite as nice as the new Fat Fifty, but there's only 1 DFA150-450. It is a beast to carry around, however.

70-200mm f2.8 focus problems

My 70-200 had a significant back focus issues until I adjusted it using the fine focuds adjustment. I used a set of poles to adjust mine rather than the simple paper targets suggested in articles. I find real 3d targets work much better than a slanted piece of paper. Adjust it at f2.8 since the dof will be narrow making it easier. Select center spot for focus. If you shot at an angle you might be able to use the mail box in your test shots.
Good luck.

Taking action shots during sporting events requires me to change location frequently. Moving a tripod around just doesn’t work. I shoot mainly Equestrian Jumping Events and Soccer matches that my daughter competes in. This is what works for me. A picture of the gear I use is attached.
  1. Use any Monopod – with a simple tilt head and shoulder brace to add stability. I use a Manfrotto 234RC Head and 361 Brace.

  2. Don’t forget to use your “dominant eye” in the viewfinder! If you don’t know which eye is dominant make a triangle with your hands to center a distant object, alternately close each eye. The eye which still shows the object most centered is your, “Dominant Eye”.

  3. Set your ISO high enough to allow a fast shutter speed to freeze the action, I use ISO 800 with the lens at f 4-5.6 @200mm with my Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 lens, this get me above 1/1000th exposure on most days.

  4. Use any surrounding structure to help stabilize your camera and body, fence posts, trees, etc... so long as you can get your shots.

  5. Set the tilt head at 90 degrees and try using the Monopod like a gun stock, squeezing it under your arm pit. Set the shoulder brace so it can be comfortably pressed against your chest using some moderate force to keep it pressed against you.

  6. Try shooting from a low point of view using the Shoulder Brace as a ground support, I sometimes lie on the ground with an Under Armour stadium blanket which is water and dirt resistant.

  7. If the action passes by a predictable path, such as with a course, try using the “Catch in Focus” feature of you Pentax as explained in this forum article link. Catch-in-Focus Tutorial - Articles and Tips | PentaxForums.com
