I have tried just pressing and holding the shutter button, this works fine and the exposure don't get cut like when I use the remote. The strange thing is that the remote used to work, maybe a firmware has broken this?

I have never heard of some "Auto switch off" and yes I am locking the remote, the process I described leads to locking. And what pictures did you see?

I am using a Hama ca 1 remote control when shooting in bulb mode for long exposure. For those who have used this device pressing and holding the button on the remote until the red light goes out starts the exposure. Pressing the button once more ends the exposure.
Last winter I took shots with exposures longer than 10 minutes without any problem using this technique. A year later when I try this the camera cuts the exposure without any second press of the remote button. The time it takes before the camera cuts the exposure seems random spanning from 80 to 160 seconds. Does any of you know why this happens?

Thank you all. The conclusion must be that the picture is a bit plain and boring :)
Wombat, yes that is the feeling I was trying to achieve. So I guess since you saw that it is not all bad.

Hi!
I have gotten a lot of very different opinions on this photo. Some really don't like it and think the composition is dull and the contrast and colors are flat. Others on the other hand seem to like it.
So please could you tell me what you think about this shot.

It has been a while since I posted this request for Lightroom presets. Has anyone found or created any good presets or camera profiles which they are willing to share?

Hmm. Lots of options I see. But the suggestion to skip the 50 and get a 70 mm is probably the most tempting one. The da 70 looks nice. I currently own the Tamron sp af 28- 75mm f2.8, this one covers both the 50 and the 70. But I do like primes. Would it be sensible to trade the Tamron for a DA 70 mm?

Yes I absolutely see the need for shallow dof composition wise. Personally I mostly shoot people and find sub F2 not that useful. Well that is not quite true I love shooting with shallow dof!
However since i got the K5 technically I dont need flash in order to get a decent indoor shot. Using ISO 6400 and aperture close to F2 there is no problem. The problem however is that indoor lightning tends to be unsuitable composition wise. Portraits taken indoor in the evening in the light of lamps often gives unwanted shadows on the subject. Using a flash gives a much better result. And this leads yet again to the conclusion that fast primes are not that needed anymore.

I currently own a sigma 30mm F1.4 and am looking for a 50mm to supplement this one.
I have currently look at the following lenses:
smc PENTAX DA 40mm, not a 50mm and perhaps to close to the 30mm for any real use. Or do you disagree on this
smc PENTAX DA* 55mm F1.4
smc PENTAX D FA 50mm Macro F2.8
smc PENTAX FA 50mm F1.4
So what to get. Any thought or other suggestions?

Hi!
I have just started using the K5 and I am amazed by its low light capabilities. Is the need for fast primes, for instance sub F2 primes really needed for this camera? As far as I know few primes perform at its best when shooting with larger aperture than F2.
So my question is are fast primes really necessary with this camera? When taking cost into consideration is it worth spending extra money on super fast primes or would an F2.8 prime do the job?
When I look at the Pentax prime range few primes have larger aperture than F2. Any thoughts on this?

Great feedback BigDave and grainbelt. I agree on the points regarding the stem and the blossoms, they should be lighter and more washed out.

My intention was to keep the details low to get a high key look on the shot.
The white balance is intentionally set to a yellower shade than the flower naturally has to get a warmer and "older look".

Orchid shot using Pentax k5 and Sigma 600 mm. Mainly whitebalance and curves adjusted in Lightroom.
What do you think of this shot? Any good? Any tips for improvement both regarding composition and Lightroom work? Orkide by T. Dog, on Flickr
