Thanks.
KEH charges a flat rate of $320 plus $12 return shipping as their flat rate. I had a 16-50 repaired by them years ago (failed SDM) and they did a great job with quick turn around.
I seem to be able to “wake” it by putting the camera in live view and focusing a couple times. Then it seems to be OK for the rest of the day. But I know it’s only a matter of time.....

I was heartbroken this morning when my DA* 60-250 stopped focusing without any warning.
Then I remembered this thread and the awesome service and finally found it.
Then I was back to heartbroken when I read the details in the first post - that you can’t do the DA* 60-250.
I am so frustrated - guess I will have to see what KEH will charge for a repair tomorrow. I had them to a DA* 16-50 years ago before I knew about your service.
Oh well.....

You guys really have a handle on that DA*55!
I had one some time ago. While an excellent lens I quickly learned it takes some patience to learn how to use it properly.
Nice job both of you!
Question for Rondec - did you give those images above a slight HDR treatment? If so - tastefully done.
You guys and the rest on this thread are giving me the push to get back out there with my new-to-me (again) DA* 60-250.

I’ve had a hiatus of sorts from my photography hobby for the past 5-6 years. Had sold all my gear at that time due to frustration.
Just received my new-to-me K3 and DA* 60-250 for getting started again. This was my first pic. Composition is terrible of course but was just getting a handle on my settings.
This is Jake our 2 year old Border Collie mix. I’ve taken lots of pics the past couple years with my iPad but could never get his eyes to show with his black mask. Finally got them!
I still have to settle on a workflow for web pics -

I live along a small river - around here the term is “krik”. There are a lot of springs on my property many of which are piped underground to where they exit at the bank of the creek.
The main spring - where our water comes from - has an little overflow pond - and also is piped underground to the creek bank. I believe the rain downspouts are piped into this.
Quick iPad shots showing the main spring, spring overflow pond, and the creek bank. You can’t see the creek in this area this time or year as it is just too lush.

I figured someone would spot that....
I am redoing a rain water drain. All the downspouts on my house are piped into 3” clay pipe and run underground somewhere. I broke a section from running over it with my tractor. That’s what I get for mowing with a heavy compact diesel tractor.
So replacing the pieces with 4” S&D pipe. Picked up the elbow shown when I was in town this morning.

I am actually starting over. Long story short - here is my coming back thread from last week - I'm back - maybe...... - PentaxForums.com
Starting over made me really think. There were lots of times over the years that I wished I could have access to all the aftermarket goodies that are available to Nikon and Canon users. I've been with Pentax since my switch to digital which was...I don't remember when...
I don't have the opportunity to hold any cameras in hand. But I did once about 10-12 years ago when I was in a small city for a doctor appointment - spotted a small camera shop. I held a mid range Nikon and Canon body in my hands. It was the feel that got me - just so plastic feeling if that is a thing.
As I said in my post in the linked thread, I was very tempted to get the Canon 80D bundle. I really struggled with this - I read reviews for days. A couple that stood out for me were ones that said with a heavy lens the camera body actually creaked. I love my heavy DA* lenses.
I lovingly remember the feel of my K5IIs - just so solid in my hands. And the "feel" of the shutter I also remember. Just so solid I guess I want to say.
Getting older now I am more and more resistant to change. So in the end I went what was familiar to me and bought a used K3 and DA* 60-250. I received it yesterday. The first "feel" of picking up the camera out of the box made me know I made the right decision.
Yeah - the Canon had lots more focus points and a flippy LCD touch screen. But if it would feel like junk in my hands I would never have gotten very far with it. I wish I had the money to buy the Canon bundle anyway just to feel it in my hands but that is not the case.
So I'm back to stay I guess. I hope Pentax continues forward.

Jake doing critter patrol from home base this morning. He’s content to be able to be 1/2 inside and 1/2 outside. That way he doesn’t miss anything.

As usual my procrastination got to me. The 100mm macro is now $547 at Adorama instead of $397 as posted - same as B&H.
I kind of thought the price would be good for the week......

The 100mm Macro is calling my name. I think I’ve bought and sold at least 3 over the years. But I promised myself I was not going down that rabbit hole again.....

Here's an update -
A long time member here approached me via PM this morning. I will leave them to be anonymous for now unless they want to let us know here.
I am getting a K3 with a DA* 60-250.
I am so excited! I was leaning toward the K70 and 55-300 but know I would be wanting more. After all my years with Pentax gear my DA* 60-250 was always my go-to lens. And coupled with a K3 is just cream on top. Can't wait to learn about it.
And another note.....I first came here in this thread with my mind fairly made up on getting the Canon bundle. However in the short time this thread has lived I have found something that I always knew but had forgotten in my absence - the community here and the people who make up the community. I am so happy to be back in with the group here. Had I gone with Canon I would have been lost in the internet world.
Thank you all for being here and helping me. At least half my excitement with this purchase is knowing that I will be able to be active here once again. I have no personal friends at all in life. If you can call us friends here being we all have never met, I feel blessed to have the friendship you all give me.
I will update this thread when the gear comes and of course be out posting pics in the different sections.

Things happen quickly around here. In the interim a member contacted me with an offer of just the camera and lens I wanted.
Baring any unseen issues I will be buying that setup. If not I will contact you.
Sorry David - when I hit the "send PM" link I came to a page that said you did not allow PM's.

OK. So if I do end up with the K5-IIs the PLM lens is out I guess, that’s OK - if I get that body I will look for a nice copy of the HD 55-300 WR.

BOOM!
This may have made up my mind. I was just about set to go with a K70 but the chance to get something that I loved and am intricately familiar with may have won out.
Thanks!
