Yes, Show Us Your RAW Conversions, BEFORE And AFTER - Page 93 - Canon Digital Photography Forums
PP is an artform itself, with pros even starting to outsource the pp process to others. Everyone has different eyes. I prefer natural looking colors. I shoot raw and PP everything (crop, exposure, whitebalance, shadows and highlights). If you want the best pictures/minute spent, pp is mandatory imho. Others go completely outterly world with their pp and people love it.
I don't think jpeg should ever be used. RAW with no pp is better. It's very easy to see the compression, especially when looking at faces. Take a picture of your face, jpeg makes ppl look like clayface look. not accurate.

these days, all the sensors are too close to really choose based on that. but canon's sensors had some problems with reds. some think nikon/pentax/sony sensors are basically the same, and all better than canon. K5 has a best in class sensor.
The most unique thing about pentax dslrs
-has in body shake reduction. This helps when buying old glass and getting SR. nikon/canon usually charge more for the shake reduction lens than standard lens
-they have a shrinking market share, some worry like me, that the format will die. Makes me hesitance to buy glass for pentax.

if you are doing animals, you need 200mm minimum! Pentax 55m-300mm, cheaper si the same optically as weatherproof version. 135mm is wayyyyy too short. I like prime 35mm + 55m-300m combo. Meets post of my needs, good quality. If you are buying 18-55mm, then you can get the cheapy kit lens on ebay for like $70 last time I checked. If you want wider, I'd wait for a deal on an ultrawide 8-13mm range sigma, etc.

who's format is going to be around in 5 years? Pentax might not be. too risky to invest now in glass. Put your bias aside; if you were a new buyer, would you really put $2.5k in pentax right now?
also, mirrorless is making huge gains, nex 5n sensor is kicking some dslr ass twice it's $$, (not k5, but look at top question.
dslr market is already shrinking, who do you think will suffer?

you are right, in post 25 you have valid criticisms of their testing.
In this case, I don't set my bar of evidence as highly as you. Mostly because It is the best source of information I can find.
not recognizing all the limitations of something, does not mean you are misinterpreting it. You are implying that I misinterpreting it. That logic doesn't play out.
Rarely will all experiments be perfect. It doesn't mean you discount the majority of research because of it.
Using critiques in studies to discount large and unproportionate amounts (relative to the critique) data is common method.

its usually better to replace the internals than keep old tech alive. But you kind of have to wait for deals
eg. cpu + motherboard $100
AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Callisto 3.2 GHz $59.99 Mico Center B&M AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Callisto 3.2 GHz $59.99 Mico Center B&M - ***************
4gb memory is like $40
That's $140 for a modern system that will beat any p4 setups even with video cards.
I haven't looking in to adobo benchmarks, but I kind of doubt a videocard makes a different. People often misunderstand where a videocard helps. Eg., videocards don't do crap about decoding heavy compressed videos, although marketing will tell you different. Yes, a videocard can decode now, but cpu+memory does it better. Codecs matter more. update I was right, videocard has not significant impact with photoshop. discussed I would definitely skip it and use an onboard video.

if you here any unusual noise from your hard drive, then do NOT follow below. > get a second hD and transfer all your files over. Internal 2tb is good price/performance right now.
all windows os need to be streamlined out of the box. run black vipers optimization guide, might take you an hour but it's worth it.
go to msconfig > hid microsoft services > disable mostly everything you see except your antivirus. If you disable something like wireless drivers, which you should. if it stops working, reenable them.
run superantispyware.

I read those articles. Thanks for linking, but there was a wee bit of exaggeration.
they were able to intercept and interfere with tire monitors = worse case scenario your car thinks your tires are low/can't get readings from them.
2nd article is not hacking. He's using a valid login to a system that is designed to do what it was designed to. I didn't know systems like that existed, pretty dastard if you ask me.

it's easy to broadly critique like this without providing any evidence. No one has even put forward any arguments why the data from dpreview is wrong or has shortcomings. I checked photozone /, canon 1.8 still looks better., even though very interesting to see how different results can get.
.
Thanks for the suggestion. After looking at the 35mm. the 35/2.4 is the cheapest and trounces the other lenses in the below comparison on photozone. highest resolution, lowest CA. canon has super ugly bokeh too. All in all, feeling a lot better. would be nice to go f2 if forced though.
new used
canon 35/2 $319 $na
pentax 35/2.4 $175 $122
pentax 35/2 n/a $400

with ricoh just buying pentax, and pentax glass costing more despite not having built in autofocus > high new lens prices. I would definitely not switch, or at least wait for awhile.

you are correct. I adjusted my statement. Taking another look:
at f1.8 I would prefer canon
2.2 to 3.3 I would prefer pentax
3.5 onward prefer the canon.
no taking bokehs in to account, give the penax used price is almost 400% canons, data points to clear winner. What am I doing wrong here.

lens testing may not be perfect, but I personally value data and numbers over a lot of things. Once any one buys in to a system, we all bias ourselves a bit.
Anyone see any sides by sides, that may demonstrate lens better despite having less sharp/more CA.

why would go with mf only lens when i can get an mf/af lens for $80 used
canon 50 1.8 $80 used *sharper/significantly less CA most f-stops including 1.8
pentax 50 1.4 $300 used
pentax 50 1.4 mf-only $70 used (Pentax-M SMC 50mm/1.4 Lens)
I do not know how weigh Bokeh on canon vs pentax, when taken in context with sharp/CA. Are the old 1.4 mf better IQ than the newer 1.4?

I'm new so I don't know all the places for lens data, where can I find this information with pentax 50/1.7 vs canon 50/1.8. I assumed pentax 1.4 would be better than 1.7.

well, when the new canon 50mm 1.8, is cheaper even when new, significantly sharper with less CA when both are at 1.8, and across most f-stops. not looking good for pentax options. If we want to bring in-body SR in to this; that's great but not really necessary for a fast 50mm. Also in-lense SR is vastly superior to in-body SR, so we can't get 100% apples to apples match dpreview.com - Lens Review - Fullscreen |

canon has 50mm 1.8 af (sucks at 1.8, but nice stopped down) for $100. Where can I find an equivalent pentax for this amount?
-disgruntled new pentax buyer which was told pentax had great lens choices.

got to disagree, I recently bought k-x 18-15, 55-300. I'm a newb, but budget lens (used ok) choices are not really looking great.
For me, my goal is to highest # of good pics for least amount of hassle/cost/time possible. I haven't tried mf cif yet, but canon has a 50mm prime 1.8 af for that's $100 new. Anything around this size is $350 from pentax =/
I am total willing to put the time to train myself in mf, as long as it results is having the same amount good focus shots as af in a real life setting, no studio or still life please. Correct me if I'm totally off base.
