RAW (dng, Adobe RGB) for all my shots, imported to Lightroom for tweaking to taste then exported as sRGB jpeg’s for screen viewing.

Love the quality of the grip if not the price, but I put that to the back of my mind now. I always have the grip fitted for the greatly improved handling and extended power. I spend lengthy periods away from a charger on a sailing yacht so the AA tray is very useful.

Which software do you use to import and process RAW files ?

Lightroom 3.6 for 95% of my post-production and Photoshop for any detail work or cloning needed. Once I had climbed the steep Lightroom workflow learning curve I found it quick, easy and effective to use for all of my RAW work until the shots are exported as jpeg's. Then for viewing the exported jpeg's I now use the Faststone Image Viewer after many years of using ThumbsPlus. I will probably buy Lightroom 4 shortly as some of the new features will be useful. :D

Despite all you read in the forums, I have owned my K-5 for 15 months, taken 10,000 photographs, many at sea receiving while receiving rough treatment on a sailing yacht, without a glitch. I would not hesitate to buy another K-5 particularly as the price has dropped £300 since I bought mine!

Nice to hear positive points being made about Pentax dSLR's for a change. The ruggedness of the K-5 was one of the prime reasons for my purchase. I crew on sailing/racing yachts so cameras get bashed around in heavy seas or strong winds and salt spray gets everywhere. Not a problem for my K-5 and DA18-55 WR combo, just clean off the lens filter now and then. Shame the DA 55-300 is not a WR though.

I have been a keen amateur photographer for 40+ years with a little semi-pro work on occasions. Generally, I have favoured Pentax cameras after moving from Praktica’s and still own MX and K1000 bodies. In my life before children I had my own colour darkroom but converted to the digital medium in 2001.

I recently replaced my trusty K10D (should have kept it as a 2nd body) with a K-5, a camera I have been most impressed with, particularly its mid-high ISO, low noise performance. I have a fair selection of old SMC Pentax K-M prime lenses and a couple of modern DA zooms, 18-55 & 55-300mm.

Recently I have started taking sports photographs for my son’s rugby club therefore I’m now saving for a high quality, fast telephoto zoom to replace my SMC Pentax A* f4 300mm prime and DA 55-300mm zoom.

Cheers
