I have two helios 44, 58 f2. One will fit my spotmatic F but the other (apparently the same lens) won't. Don't try to mount a smc takumar in a zenit, the small pint in the lens will catch in one of the recessed screws of the mount and you will have an interesting problem: how to unmount it.

I do not remember the graph, but the process is as follows:
- Point the camera to a strongly lighted surface(e. g. EV 15 or 16) and adjust the left pot until the meter is centered using correct f number, speed and iso.
- Repeat the process using approx. EV 8, adjusting the right pot.
Most probably the high light calibration would be now slightly out: adjust again and iterate until both are right. Check intermediate values.
Probably you will have to shield the cds cells from light not coming directly from the pentaprism, use black tape or something like that. Take care when adjusting the pots: they are easily scratched.

Hello. I have just adjusted the meter of my Spotmatic-f which suffered similar symptoms than yours. If you are comfortable removing the top of the camera is not difficult.
There are two different circuits for stop-down metering and for open-iris metering with SMC takumars. The first one can be adjusted by a small pot which can be accessed by removing the film reminder discs in the rewind film axis. You need a known good meter (or camera) and 2 or 3 different light conditions. In my experience is difficult to adjust the high level light AND the low level light so you just make a compromise.
For adjusting the open-diaphragm you have to remove the top cover. There are 2 little pots around the viewfinder: the left one is for the high level and the right one for the low level. You can achive a better adjustment with this procedure than with the previous one.
I have found invaluable these manuals: Pentax Manuals
For removing the top cover "National Camera Manual for Spotmatic"
and for the meter adjustment: "Pentax Spotmatic F Meter"
If you need details I would be glad to help. Regards

Hello. I own a number of Pentax cameras, including a Zx-5, kx (digital) an have been recently given a MZ-30. I own a Ricoh 50 f2 which I converted long time ago to KA mount. It works quite well in "A" position, if you remember to underexpose 1 point from 2.8 to 16. I would like to use it in my new camera but it register the lens as a f1.2 lens instead of f2.0. My other cameras (zx-5 and kx) register the aperture correctly. I am sure this has something to do with the plastic mount of the camera, but I can't really think of a way to mend it. Perhaps some missing contact??. I am aware of the contact codex of the A mount . Any assistance would be greatly appreciate.
Javier
PS: all other "normal" A, FA and F lenses are correctly reported.

Andrix, you can buy a chinese M42-K in e-bay for something like 7 $, shipping worldwide included. I bought 2 of them some weeks ago, and I don't remember the seller, but I choose the cheapest ( 7$ plus 60 %= 11 $, still cheap). The adapters are of very good quality (better than the original, in my experience), tought the fitting is very tight in a new k-x. After several weeks of continous lens' changing the fitting is better. You can always remove the locking spring and attach the adapter to the lens instead of to the camera. Please, avoid the adapter with a flange, because they will not allow infinity focus.
Selar: M42 lenses will not meter correctly (not even near) in Av mode in the k-x. I don't know why, because it works great in my MZ-5, and as you, I thought it should work, but it doesn't. Something related to the non-linear transmision of the focussing screen, I have been said. The only usable mode with K or M42 lenses in the k-x is M.
From the lenses you quoted, I own the Rikenon, and the Helios. Both are very good, but I prefer the Helios, for no clear reason. I think almost any 50ish f2ish will be good. Regards

Hello. I have this lens and the 4M-4 MC and 4M-4 single coated. All of them are very good. I also own a Ricoh 50 f2 and a yashica ML 50 f2. The Helios 4M-7 is the sharper of the lot. The mount is M42, and you can use it in your k-x using a M42-K adapter, but only in manual.
These lenses have an automatic diaphragm, so you have to disable it if you want to use other apertures than wide open. There are several tutorials on how to do this.
Don't overpay for an Helios lens!. I paid 25 euros for the three lens and a zenit 11 body.

Hello. You surely have several remotes at home: try them. In my case, the remote from an Sony audio system works just fine (only one key though). It works from about 7 m at the rear of the camera (in spite of the fact that the receiver seems to be in the front). My camera is a k-x but I supose it is similar in the k-r. Regards

Hello. I know this thread is old, but I have just registered, and I have a new K-x . After some experimenting, I have found that M42 lenses will work in Av mode, only if the electric contacts in the mount flange are shorted, i.e. if the lens's flange is conductive (don't ask how I realize this). If this condition is fulfilled the the exposition is fine (more or less).
Best regards
