PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing

Item for Sale
Pentax K-1 and 3 Lenses!

Asking Price
3,000.00 USD

Item Location
Plainfield, IL (United States)

Item Description
For sale I have my minty fresh Pentax K-1 and 24-70 f/2.8. This gear is 14 months old with basically no use. I traded up from a Canon 7D and life got in the way and don't have time to use it. Looking to downgrade to a smaller ILC so maybe I will take it more places.

The K-1 only has 1400 shutter actuations. It is basically brand new. The two extra lenses are nothing special but work great. One is a 70-210mm AF zoom from the 90's that is in mint condition. The other is a cheap manual 50mm f/1.7 lens with aperture click ring removed that makes it great for video.

With the camera will be two pentax batteries and 2 64GB SanDisk SD cards. I will also throw in my Tamrac Expedition 7x backpack. It's a $250 camera storage backpack that I won't be needing. No Trades at this point. This is a great deal for someone looking to get some serious gear. New the items I am selling total about $3800, so this is a healthy $800 discount. Shipping is included, I will throw everything in the backpack and ship it so it will all be really well protected.

So Total Gear List:
Pentax K-1
Pentax 24-70 f/2.8
Pentax 70-210
Sears 50mm f/1.7
2x Sandisk 64GB SD cards
2x Pentax Batteries
Tamrac Expedition 7x

Sorry for crappy photos, I can provide better if you need them. I added screenshot to show actuations of camera.

Wireless Triggers

I do occasionally use them for their intended purpose. So you would recommend the Nikon version?

These?

https://www.amazon.com/YONGNUO-Wireless-Trigger-Shutter-RF605N/dp/B00OLOIJG8...ywords=RF+605N

And the headphone jack is the typical 2.5mm headphone jack correct? So this cable would probably work?

Wireless Triggers

So I've done a bit of searching and can't seem to find the right answer, but I am hoping to find some wireless triggers. I just got a K-1 after selling all my Canon gear. I had a K200D about 6 years ago and loved it. Could never get the 7D to make pictures as well as it did(Probably that CCD in the K200D).

For the Canon I used Yongnuo 603 Wireless flash triggers to activate the shutter. I see that the K-1 has IR sensors in front and back, but I am sometimes out of direct line of sight of the camera and the RF-603's were awesome for triggering the shutter exactly when I needed.

Since Yongnuo doesn't make a Pentax version, what do I need to buy to get a working set with the Pentax? I sold off the triggers thinking I would need a new set, but it seems that maybe they would have worked with a new cable, but I can't seem to find that answer.

I do miss my K200D. Had a lovely sensor in it took some great photos. But alas the calling of Canon couldn't hold me forever. Now I have a 7D and 5D2 and every time I try to use a friends Pentax K-5 I feel like I'm holding a tiny little brick. Oh well.

Former Pentax user here. Sold all my Pentax stuff about a year ago. I really liked Pentax, but I kept drooling over L lenses and eventually made the switch to Canon. I had a K200D and I thought it was fantastic, but then I held a 7D and it molded into my hand. Pentax didn't really have the lenses I needed specifically. I know a lot of Pentax people love to bargain hunt for old manual lenses, and more power to them for using them and getting great images. I just love my ridiculously great autofocus on the 7D paired with a 70-200L USM lens, which is something that a Pentax couldn't match. Shooting nighttime football games and soccer games and in gyms needs a fast lens, and to be honest, that is slim pickings at Pentax. I plan on moving up to full frame eventually, it's just another option that Pentax chooses not to compete in.

Well just thought I'd share my thoughts in this thread, don't bash me too much!

I would switch them out. The 17-50 has been chosen as the winner over the 17-55 many times. Mine is tack sharp. It's unbelievable. The Sigma may be softer in the corners but sharper in the middle.

Also it sounds like Pentax can't match what you want. I will be interested in seeing the 7D mark 2 or whatever it's going to be called. I hope Canon will up it's sensor performance like Sony has, instead of simply throwing in more megapixels.

The Sigma 30 f/1.4 is a solid lens. I would most certainly pick it up over the FA31, especially at it's price.

I dislike when people come to a forum, and bitch and whine when their camera stops working after 3 years of continuous use, and probably very rough use. You weren't here when the camera was working perfectly for 3 years, so don't come here when the camera finally has a problem.

Apparently things are worse than most thought. The Japanese are thinking of going straight to Chernobyl type plans, just plain burying the reactors. This means something must have gone with their cooling plan. Most likely the systems were too damaged to pump water. If that's true, the spent fuel ponds and reactors are going to melt. But if they can completey bury everything by then, they can contain most of the radiation. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Very well said Chwisch87. I have never found a number on coal related deaths, so i appreciate that number. Where did you get it by the way? Just curious.

Yes a lot of the reactors used around the world are antiquites. I am still amazed that some of the 40 year old reactors are still churning along. it is a testament to how well they were built back in the day. I can imagine plenty of small things have gone wrong, but to withstand a 9.0 earthquake is impressive.

Just look at the computers back in the 70's, and look at computers now. That same type of advancement has occured in the nuclear industry. There are so many safe types of reactors out there that should be being built.

BTW, I would already classify this as a 'disaster'. You honestly can't get much worse than things are right now. Primary could breach, but I can't really see that happening. Something huge would have to happen. Even if full meltdown occurs, enough Boric acid has hopefully been dumped in and enough grooves in place will keep the material separated to not start again.

Radiation will travel as far as the wind takes it. I wouldn't be surprised if it reached the US coast. But, by the time it got here, you would barely be able to distinguish it from background radiation levels. The article sucks because it just says a little? How much is a little? Are we talking a significant increase or is it something stupid like background+1 counts? I don't think finding radiation in Tokyo had any impact on the helicopter missions. I think they were always going to do that. 40 minutes is a long time, especially when it probably takes less than a minute over the core to dump the water and get out to a safe range.

Yes there are plenty of new designs of reactors out there, it's just convincing people to spend the money to build them.So many anti-nuke groups out there try to stop the building of new nuke plants, yet the newest ones are extremely safe.

I personally think the biggest mistake in the US is the production of huge reactors. 1000+ MW reactors are unecessary. If we build many smaller units, they are easier to take care of and if one goes down, the grid doesn't suffer because of it.

LFTR's are good, but I also really like lead-cooled fast reactors. If anything happens, you suddenly have everything encased in a large chunk of radiation stopping material.

Sad but true. Not sure how it is for most towns, cities, etc, but where I'm from, dangerous intersections only get traffic lights once someone has been killed at that location? What kind of stupid reasoning is that.

I'd really like to think the Nuke industry is a little more proactive. Especially for the fact that all reactors must be shut down every 1-2 years for refueling, in which they are down for a month or two. During this time, every plant should be going through a rigorous inspection process.

Okay basically let's start from the beginning.

9.0 earthquake. All reactors have a trip around 5.0 that scrams(or rundown, either one) the reactors. At some plants, some control rods do not go down due to damage, but this is not a big deal. This is not a big deal, as this is accounted for and there is still enough moderator to have a k-effective value of less than 1, which means the each generation of neutrons is getting smaller, hence the reactors are all shut down.

So far we are looking good.Reactors are shutting down, but then the tsunami comes. It basically knocks out everything. Power, all backups, what is referred to as a station blackout. This is worst possible scenario. At this point, the reactors are doing fine, but as more water boils off, due to decay products, the rods become exposed. Without electricity, there is no coolant. The rods, which are a zircalloy compound, react with oxygen to form hydrogen. This is the only way to get hydrogen. This hydrogen reaches the top of second containment, a separate part of containment from primary contaiment. I have to believe that they didn't vent this hydrogen because they wanted to contain the radioactive steam to the building. This obviously backfired.

As to why the hell they let this happen three times is completely beyond me. That's one of my biggest questions. Three different explosions means all three reactors melted down some point. Another clue that the reactors had melted down or were going to is they were dumping Boric acid in. Boron is a useless material except for the fact it absorbs neutrons. They were dumping it in either because a) the core had already melted and when it reconfigures they want as much neutron absorbing material mixed in as possible, or b) the core hadn't melted but they were extremely worried the core would melt.

Next there was the fire at Unit 4. I still am unsure of what actually caught on fire. Does anybody know this? I would assume because the spent fuel rod pools ran out of water, everything in the building simply got so hot it started to burn. This so far has been the biggest spreader of radiation. Fire basically is bad, casing radioactive smoke to be spread out. This is why Chernobyl was bad. if there had been no graphite fire, it would not have been near as bad. But fires that raged for 4 days carried radioactive smoke thousands of miles away.

Then there was the new issue that plant workers had to be withdrawn. I can't seem to find out why, but TEPCO's official reports simply say this:

At approximately 6:00 today, an abnormal noise began emanating from nearby
the pressure suppression chamber of Fukushima Dai-ichi Power Station.
Given that the pressure within this chamber had decreased, it was believed
that this was an indication that an abnormality had arisen. From this
point on, while water injection operations are still underway, the
temporary transfer to a safe place of TEPCO employees and workers from
other companies not directly involved with this work has begun. Currently,
at Fukushima Dai-ichi Power Station, the remaining workers are doing their "
best to secure the safety and security of the site.

Now I'm wondering what this abnormal noise is. Apparently there was also a large increase in radiation with this that caused the evacuation of all workers, but many have gone back.

Now they are dumping water on the Unit 4 building, trying to cool the reactor and also get water in the spent fuel pool. The best thing we can hope for right now is to get power back and use the electric generators onsite to get coolant flowing again. If this can happen, I think things will start to be under control.

I emailed my professors to simply see if they knew anything. Basically all they know is what we know, and as they told me, what info can we really trust? TEPCO is issuing reports, but how honest are they? They may not tell the full story. And the media may overplay things to make it sound more dramatic or whatever. One of these professors actually was one of the first to go to TMI to see what had happened. He says that because of the design of the BWR's, even if there was a metldown, everything should be contained, just like TMI. This was being said however, before any fires had taken place. The explosions have said to not damaged primary containment, which is important in keeping the core from going outside containment.

So, ratmagiclady, or anyone, am I missing anything important, or can you fill me in on any more details? I hope this clears up basically what I know about the current situation.

Anything outside the current situation I am not too concerned about, especially safety of other plants, because I am sure they are all going to go through some rigorous checks after this, at least I would hope they are. Discussion about the nuke industry in general can be discussed later.

Ratmagiclady, when I saw that I don't understand what you are saying when you type things, I am not trying to insult you in any way. All I am saying is that some things just don't make sense.

Once again, who the hell am I insulting? I would give you the name of all 5 professors but you would probably go to harassing them and telling them that they are idiots. I will tell you again what they said.

Basically, nobody knows what is exactly going on, except for the people there. The core has obviously melted down in units 1 through 3. That is the only way to possibly get hydrogen, from a reaction with the Zircalloy once it's temperature reaches 1800 Celsius and reacts with air.

When I said it was safe, I was saying that based on the majority of peoples location. Like I have said before, if you aren't basically on top of these reactors, you aren't going to get radiation. Everything is being blown out to sea. I tried to explain that with the inverse square law but you somehow took that as a personal attack. I wish I knew how your mind worked.

I can see why you have the highest post count today of almost 40 posts, and they are all in off topic section. You wouldn't be able to find another forum who would take your incessant ranting about things, trying to prove other people wrong. I would love to stay and chat some more and share what I know, but people like you make it impossible to have a civilized conversation without personal attacks coming into play. You attacked me when you don't believe simple little things like that I talked to old nuke professors. Is that so hard to believe? Please sir, get over yourself.
