Helix on the sandhills (his poor little eyes kept getting full of sand because it was so windy, but he still had a blast!)
Kira on the sandhills too! |

Thanks for the comments! We had a lot of fun out there and I was happy for the weather sealing on my K10D with all of that sand blowing around!
The boots are part of an art sculpture I guess. They are set on one of the stable sandhills (covered in vegetation) by the main "parking lot" area at the entrance to the sandhills. The curve in the road there is apparently named "cowboy boot curve" as well. I guess someone just decided to start posting them up there on a wooden structure. It's also traditional in SK to upend old boots on fence posts, so you'll often see that as you drive through the prairie. It was a very suitable art piece for the area though and I couldn't resist taking a tonne of pictures of it :)
I've heard of the sandhills ever since I was a little kid because my dad grew up in the area. They cover a huge patch of land extending into Alberta. They've been protected so they are used only as pasture land for cattle- no grain farming and no oil drilling (there is tonnes of oil in the area). They are constantly changing too- more dunes form in dry years when the vegetation dies off, and in moist years there are more stable hills. The dunes can move up to 25 meters a year (it's very windy here). There were a surprising number of people there considering it is truly located in the middle of nowhere (a lot of photographers though!). For any of you Western Canadians, it's a short one hour drive south of Kindersley on highway 21 (Kindersley is on the main highway from Saskatoon to Calgary). They are the second biggest sand dunes in Canada- the biggest also in Saskatchewan way up north by lake Athabasca. There's also apparently a lot of wildlife in the area, with about 150 different species of birds as well as a lot of deer and small rodents. I wasn't able to get any good shots though. There are a few more pictures on my blog Photos by Candice if anyone is interested.

We made a trip out to the Great Sandhills this weekend specifically so that I could take pictures :) It's a very unique area on the prairie with huge sand dunes interspersed with rolling green hills. Here are a few of my favourites (we had our dogs with us!). |

It's finally green around here after a late spring. I'm having tonnes of fun taking pics of everything growing outside- here are three of my recent favourites. Thanks for looking! |

ETA: Another poster suggested we open this to everyone and I thought this was a great idea. Please feel free to post your own random shots that ended up turning out great!
I couldn't figure out what to name this post, LOL! The first picture is from the K10D with a Sigma 17-70 shot from a moving car. I increased the contrast quite a bit to get the rays of sunlight to stand out a little more, but overall I like the effect of the motion blur in the foreground. Any thoughts?
This one is a pair of birds on an electrical wire. I used a photo editing program to add a cold processed feel to it and I think it turned out rather well. |

BTW: Someone earlier asked about Helix- he's actually a miniature husky (an Alaskan Klee Kai). He's full grown now at about 14 lbs.

These are a few of my favourites that I shot this Victoria long weekend in my backyard. The white flowers are either from our plum or pear trees. The "regular" ones were taken with a Sigma 17-70, the macros with a 50mm f2 and extension tubes, and the funky dandelion one with a Lensbaby 2.0. I did some post processing in Picnik just to experiment, and I like the way they turned out! Any comments or criticism is welcome :) |

I love my Crumpler 6 million dollar home! You could go with the 5 million if you wanted smaller :) My Crumpler fits my K10D with lens attached + 4 additional lenses/flashes (at the very least) with lots of pockets for storage. Plus, it's pretty!

We adopted an 8 month old Norwegian elkhound/ lab mix from a nearby shelter this weekend. She's the sweetest dog I've ever met and she's getting along really well with our Helix. She looks a lot bigger than she is- she's 35 lbs and 18" tall at the shoulders. Her name is Kira. Here's the best photo I've taken so far- with many more to come, I'm sure. |

LOL, sorry! At the time I replied to your post I was really sick with a throat infection and hopped up on codeine (along with a lot of other OTC drugs) plus I hadn't slept in 3 days. Usually I do actually read the posts I respond to...
